Jack Thompson Blames Bill Gates for VT Shooting

Recommended Posts

OK... . Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, one who donates almost half of his personal fortune for good causes, accused by a person who strongly believes that violent games cause violent behaviour even though countless research has been made otherwise that provide that it is untrue.

You know where my vote is for.

Scirwode

I tried to not read this thread; I've seen it every time I've been on neowin for the past day or so, but I finally yeilded. And now... I know why I didn't; I am actually angry.

a. Ridiculously over-zealous christians tend to bug me a little anyway.

b. What the heck does he have to do with anything here?

c. HE IS WRONG!

How is it that the biggest idiots tend to receive the most media attention!?

Chris

Alright guys, I need you all to log onto my CS Server named "School Killing Simulation". Alright, you go over by the water fountain, you go over by the desk, you pretend to be the teacher. Alright... just stand there... good good....

How the hell can you even train to do that? Anyone who has fired a real gun knows that it is pretty much nothing like it is in the video games, ESPECIALLY Counter-Strike and Halo. This guy is a douche, and gives Christians all over the world a bad name. He needs to get his facts straight before thinking that he is a crusader, or hopefully he'll get his own "crusader" in a prison shower.

Every single pc hardware, software manufacturer and game dev's/producer/publisher, along with console makers, designers, producers, game dev's/producer/publisher should all go to court to BAN Jack Thompson from interacting, viewing, or commenting upon ANY of their products, plans, or intellectual property. On the grounds that he makes irrational assumptions based on ill-founded logic that could potentially harm the companies reputation and future earnings

Bill Gates really should sue him. He's got all kinds of evidence on him for liable.

A nobody that pretty much threatened to sue the richest guy in the world and is blaming him for the VT incident when he has nothing at all to do with the game that this guy is trying to blame it on  and he did it all over the media where's it was all recorded and even had the nerve to send him a letter.

Smart move Jack Thompson (Y)

clx has a good idea. All gaming/PC/hardware companies should group together and bring a lawsuit on him. He'd shut up then I'd bet.

If the court case between him and Take 2 was still going on I bet he wouldn't have done this. There was a chance he was going to jail and they dropped that. Now he's found some new targets: Bill Gates, Counter Strike and Valve could also get into it since it's their game he's blaming. He was close to going to jail over GTA so he picks a new game.

I really hope someone starts to sue him soon.

He's no man of God. He's nothing but an attention ###### making all the money he can off peoples deaths. No respect at all towards any of them.

heh!

I'd love to know Jack Thompson's past with the digital age.

You telling me he has NEVER played a videogame?

I'd love to see what is/has been on his hard-drive.

What consoles he has/used to have.

Does he have any kids? Does he know what they do on videogames around their mates' houses?

I bet he would turn out to be one REAL hypocrit.

He's probably just angry because everytime he goes onto a CS server he gets called n00b, and then he blames everyone for hacking...lol

:o and maybe the terrorists behind 9/11 trained on flight simulator!

Well actually, the hijackers with the task of piloting the airplanes didn't only go for flying lessons down in Florida but also trained flight route and approach on Flight Simulator... That's hardly Microsoft's fault however, as I'm sure they would have carried on with their plans anyways.

Jack Thompson only comes up with this rubbish in order for him to become famous and earn more $$$.

Really quite sickening!

Jack thompson, you are an idiot.

I think what's worse though, is that he was on TV the day of the shooting. He doesn't even give people time before he tries to shove his propaganda down people's mouths. Thats just wrong to me. Using something like this to force your ideas onto people. Especially when their as wrong as JT's ideas.

No no no. Here's what they should do. Lock Jack Thompson in a windowless room that has nothing in it but a TV, a gun, and one bullet. Have the TV continously show compiled footage from every shooter and FPS ever made and things will take care of themselves.

I also think Jack Thompson singled out CS only because after being AWPed so many times he went crazy.

hehe.. I'd shoot the tv to make it stop *L*

guess you didn't think of the fact that he can just shoot the tv so it goes black :p

Well obviously the TV would be behind bulletproof glass. Come on now people. :p

The thing is many people who are eager to criticize Jack Thompson for capitalizing on the tragedy, are likely to have either called for increased gun control or less gun control. Jack Thompson just thinks he's right, it doesn't mean he's capitalizing on it more than anyone else. If the killer did play these video games thats something to mention. It wouldn't be surprising if he were attracted to them, given his interest in violent movies and watching wrestling.

I don't agree that violent games or entertainment should be banned. I think its reasonable though that there are restrictions on how they're marketed, whether ratings or what else. The thing is when you say there should be restrictions on how they're marketed, people go apeshit as if you're saying you want to ban them.

Then you dont know much about Jack Thompson, any time a teenager commits murder he is all over it like flies around s**t instantly blaming video games, he has a personal vendetta against Take Two and vowed to take them down. The guy is an attention ###### pure and simple.

Its already been prooved he wasnt into games, the search warrant issued found NO TRACE of any video games, consoles, or relevant software, he had a computer and he regularly wrote plays on Microsoft Word. Can you "train" to kill people using Word?

This has nothing to do with minors playing games, its the psychopaths and the Mentally Unstable people that not only use games, but movies and tv shows. How would you regulate this?

Oh sure it does, for instance, if you erode a parents ability to know what their child is exposed to you make it harder for them to parent, and if its harder to parent, then kids who are either unstable or have emotional issues will either not get help or will latch on to outlets that will feed their emotional problems. --- and then, this is not just an issue with parents and kids, but teachers and kids and psychologists and kids. and then its not even about kids, but with how the culture provides outlets for adults, even to the point that it becomes so easy to make a market around stupid clones of shooter games, because FPSs are like the porn of video games.

So anyway, I don't want any bans. I just think there are some common sense measures that consumers want. For instance, consumers want ratings for instance and they want the ratings to be done correctly, so there's correct advertising, for whatever reasons. I think stores that market to certain audiences should also be understood to only carry certain ratings. But if you even mention that opinion on a video game forum, they'll treat you as a villain, with an almost paranoid hysteria. Calm down, your games aren't going to be taken away.

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
    • Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 by Razvan Serea Microsoft Edge is a super fast and secure web browser from Microsoft. It works on almost any device, including PCs, iPhones and Androids. It keeps you safe online, protects your privacy, and lets you browse the web quickly. You can even use it on all your devices and keep your browsing history and favorites synced up. Built on the same technology as Chrome, Microsoft Edge has additional built-in features like Startup boost and Sleeping tabs, which boost your browsing experience with world class performance and speed that are optimized to work best with Windows. Microsoft Edge security and privacy features such as Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password Monitor, InPrivate search, and Kids Mode help keep you and your loved ones protected and secure online. Microsoft Edge has features to keep both you and your family protected. Enable content filters and access activity reports with your Microsoft Family Safety account and experience a kid-friendly web with Kids Mode. The new Microsoft Edge is now compatible with your favorite extensions, so it’s easy to personalize your browsing experience. Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 changelog: Migration to improved V2 architecture for Workspaces. Workspaces, introduced in Edge in 2022, allows users to create durable sets of tabs that can be saved and shared with others. In order to improve reliability and performance of this feature, the following changes are being made: Migrating data for saved Workspaces from OneDrive/SharePoint to Edge Sync service Removing the collaboration/share functionality of this feature For organizations who have disabled Sync through policy, the existing v1 Workspace data will still be migrated to the new architecture. New v2 Workspaces created after migration won't sync across devices and will remain local to each device. This update occurs on a progressive rollout beginning in Edge Stable v145 and will continue rolling out in Edge v149. For more information, see Getting started with Microsoft Edge Workspaces. Feature Updates Passkey Sync for Enterprise Users. Microsoft Edge is introducing support for passkey synchronization for enterprise users, enabling secure, passwordless authentication across devices. Passkeys created in Edge can now be synced seamlessly, improving sign-in experience while maintaining strong security standards. Note: This is a controlled feature rollout. If you don't see this change, check back as we continue the rollout. Enterprise WebView2 runtime downgrade via DowngradeVersion policy. Administrators can temporarily roll back specific applications to a previous WebView2 Evergreen Runtime version (N-1 or N-2) using the new DowngradeVersion policy in msedgewebview2.admx. The Downgrade Version policy allows enterprises to mitigate critical regressions by specifying per-application exe-to-version mappings. The Edge Updater installs the target version side-by-side, and the WebView2 Loader redirects targeted apps accordingly. Downgrades auto-expire with each new WebView2 release: apps pinned to N-1 remain on the same version (now becoming N-2) and will auto-update in the next release, while apps pinned to N-2 will revert to the current Evergreen version. The policy applies only to enterprise-managed devices (domain-joined or MDM-enrolled). For more information, see Microsoft Edge WebView2 Policy Documentation | Microsoft Learn. Collections retirement. Collections has been removed in this update. Users can no longer access or use the feature. To keep saved content, users can export it, or move all pages to Favorites before updating to Microsoft Edge Stable 149. For more information, see Organize your ideas with Collections in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Support. Modern, unified, and updated Look and Feel. Microsoft Edge has updated the Look and Feel to give customers a unified experience across all of Microsoft AI surfaces including Copilot and Bing. This changes multiple elements of the UX such as spacing, corners, fonts, default colors, etc. Clarify choices surrounding third-party cookie settings. Language under Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies are clarified to better describe the choices users have in managing third-party cookies. Custom primary password retirement. Users are no longer able to create a new custom primary password in Edge Settings edge://settings/autofill/passwords/settings. Any users who are still using a custom primary password will be automatically migrated to device authentication. Additionally, the PrimaryPasswordSetting policy will no longer support the WithCustomPrimaryPassword option. For more information, see Keep your saved passwords private in Microsoft Edge | Microsoft Support. Unifying Copilot Chat policy controls. The Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled policy is the standard for configuring Copilot Chat. Previously, this behavior was controlled by blocking the Copilot extension, either explicitly or by using the * wildcard via the ExtensionSettings or ExtensionInstallBlockList policies. Extension and sidebar policies no longer affect the appearance or functionality of Copilot Chat. Copilot address bar suggestions were also tied to extension policy settings. Starting in Microsoft Edge version 149, admins can use the CopilotAddressBarSuggestionsEnabled policy to manage this behavior. Intune MAM Protected Downloads. The protected downloads feature for Intune MAM is now available for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) devices, which aren't managed by a tenant.
