!! That's a dodgy rule. 3 of them can vote for a townsperson!

Yes, which is why communication between townspeople on this board is integral to the game. Everybody should be playing as a team, not individually.

The only reason the Mafia win when the number of Mafia = the number of non-Mafia is because then the Mafia control the voting process.

All you have to do to win is vote off two more players.

Day 6, Morning

Morning News

Two Mafia members exposed, yet there are no signs they are backing down now. benac's body was found outside Church Green this morning after being ripped to pieces by angry dogs last night. The Sheriff is treating his death as suspicious. The dogs are thought to have been drugged and released onto the poor chap by the two remaining Mafia members.

The Sheriff has asked everyone to come forward with information and not be afraid to speak publicly.

"At this stage, the two Mafia members primary concerns will be for their anonymity, and they will not risk targeting those who speak up out of fears of being exposed" the Sheriff said.

"After all, nothing bad has happened to me" he added.

Question: Are people still interested in completing this game, because I'd hate to think I was doing this for nothing..

I'm waiting for the next round, and I'm sure those that play it enjoy the game. Just out of curiosity, did you write the news bulletins or did you get them off some place?

I wrote them myself, and I'm now running out of ideas being the conventionally uncreative person I am.

I died way too quickly...whoever was responsible for that gets not prize...I have to get in next game!!! I'm such a good girl, I think I deserve it :p

I wouldn't have voted you off personally. You definitely deserve another chance. I think all the major players of this game should get first choice in the next game. Wait until this game is complete and then I will be posting the spreadsheet I have created detailing everyone's votes and positions. That should be fun to see..

I think maybe some of the people signed up for the hell of it but then couldn't actually be arsed to do much, hopefully next time everyone will get more involved and work together rather than just guessing and not communicating much with each other.

I think so too, but let's just finish this game shall we first? After all, if this game fails, who will want to dedicate their time to moderating another?

NoOOOo. I died.

Ripped apart by Dogs. Awesome!

I'm interested in seeing the outcome of this game. I'm also Interested in participating in the next game (I'm trying my hardest to participate actively in this one, But works a pain).

Tell me about it!

I go to work for one day and all I come back to is a letter that says "your dead."

If your going to participate in the next game of Neowin Mafia, I was considering that an alliance of 4 or 5 or 6 people would help out (It also adds strategy to the game).

I may have over analyzed this game, But it is part of the strategy and makes it much more interesting.

The idea is:

When the "alliance" is settled, those 4 or 5 or 6 people will PM each other what position they hold in the game (This is assuming that the Townspeople/doctor/sheriff are on the same team).

Then based on the majority of what position they hold in the game (Say 3 of the 4 people are townspeople) They will PM each other speculations on who is who and vote in agreement based on what person they want to have eliminated. Part of the agreement of the alliance is that the majority will not vote to eliminate the minority until a later stage in the game (This can be defined more if people decide to join up. Maybe a specific round can be declared "open season" allowing the remaining alliance members to vote each other out).

The minority has the option of working with the members of his position (mafia/towns person/doc/sheriff) to eliminate non-alliance members (In safe haven from the majority) up until the point when "open season" is defined (Then alliance members are open to be eliminated within the alliance).

If it turns out to be a split of 2/2 or 3/3 (Two mafia, Two townspeople if there are 4 alliance members) Then each duo will work with each other to define the outcome as much as possible.

If the alliance is severed:

If a member is clearly eliminated by another member of the alliance before the "open season" round (By clearly I mean, If the minority member remains and systematically the majority seems to be dieing off round after round or vise versa), Then the member will be permanently removed from any future alliances, and or possibly removed by the remaining members next round.

The idea of the alliance is the idea of the game itself, To win (Cheating within the alliance is pointless).

If anyone thinks this is an interesting idea, please let me know.

I didn't bother reading ALL of it, but it sounds fun to me. :D

EDIT:

Neowin News.

The Neowin news is regretfully required to report the untimely death of our venerable moderator, lt-davidw. One of our top reporters, APH-Alex has been elected unanimously by the townsfolk, and surprisingly, the mafia, to be our new moderator. He will also be assuming the place of "Ruler over all of us." The sheriff has had some suspicion that the death of David and the election of Alex was the work of the mafia. However, after some talking with the doctor, and some rectal probing, he was convinced that the mafia was not involved at all. Our town is still not quite safe yet, the mafia have been yet again spotted driving their orange van throughout the night. We have some suspicions that they are in cahoots with an allegedly "dead" SacrificialSoldier. We at the Neowin Times have sent our best investigators out on the case to find out just what the mafia is up to now.

In related news, it seems that Astro Zombie has won the lottery. Congratulations to her, she is now elligible to be selected for a draw to win one million dollars.

David wanted out... JK

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
