you can just restore the disk image to an external drive using disk utility like any Mac OS X installation. Save you some discs when installing Tiger from a backed up disk image. And you all know what I mean.

Of course, but I always prefer installing from a disc. It's not like they are THAT expensive (I usually get a 3-pack for about $8).

I think, and let me say that one more time; I think the shadows are this big because it is easier to see which window is currently active.

That's correct.

Is it just me or does the Menubar really apply a special effect to the Desktop picture behind it? To me the colors look a lot more saturated + exposed lightning. Maybe I'm just seeing things. :/

You're not just seeing things. Though this isn't concrete proof, a long-time themer at MacThemes said the same thing:

The new menubar is.. interesting. I don't like how the menus from it are more solid. But the menubar itself uses a different kind of overlay than just transparency, like color dodge or the like in photoshop. Would be cool if themers could use this effect for windows

I guess that's what Steve meant when he said (at WWDC) that the Menubar "adapts" to ones desktop picture.

I had the chance to take anther good look myself. It really does apply a saturated/exposed light effect to the desktop picture directly behind it. On some pictures it's more prominent than others.

Mount it, remove the Xcode stuff, it's like 4.3GB. Burn, boot, install.

How does one remove Xcode from a Mac OS X disc image? I wanted to know this for quite some time now.

Yeah, the space environment is a Core Image .qtz file. Basically it's like a screen saver running in the background.

Does this mean the Time Machine image can be used as its own screen saver? That'd be awesome, I love having space-themed screen savers.

I know but I'm just saying for all the Mac users with an iPod or another Hard Disk but no Superdrive :)

How long would it take to boot the entire Leopard OS from the iPod? Would it be like running Linux from a Live CD?

I'm worried about the dock. It seems like it'll waste even more screen space with its new "features." The new GUI is nothing special. I'm not saying it's ugly, but it definitely doesn't make me very excited either.

I'd say I plan to stick with Tiger, but Apple pretty much forces you to upgrade -- if you don't you'll be left behind. :/

Ah well, I'm sure there'll be some nice skins made for it :)

Don't don't don't don't don't boot an OS from your iPod. The hard drives aren't meant to take that kind of strain, and doing it for any extended period of time is bad for it.

The Dock pretty much takes up the same amount of space vertically. Does anyone know what those brown folders are used for?

My only guess will be those are shown for other users' folders, while your own are in the blue. That's how Vista does it. (I'm not saying Apple is copying Vista, but that's the only thing I can come up with)

I booted Tiger from my 3G iPod and it wasn't that bad just a few minutes. But yeah, it gets really hot and I wouldn't do for anything other than emergency purposes.

I don't know if Apple has anything to do with the stability of the torrents, but they're the worst I've ever seen lol

It's most likely because at the moment, the majority of people with the torrent are leeching, few have the complete copy and are seeding. But with each passing day, the ratio will improve. I say give it a week, and the torrents will be very fast, with hundreds of seeders.

While they do take up appox the same space at identical icon sizes, I appreciated the padding between the bottom of windows and the top of icons that the interface used to enjoy. The new dock looks a little unbalanced and the space between the bottom of the screen and the bottom of the icons seems wasted. The new dock also makes it entirely possible to have a "minimalistic" appearance for the GUI. I'm praying that someone comes out with a mod at some point to bring the 2D dock back.
