Firstly, don't go off and buy one, seeing as they're around $800 or more, and they're not just for anybody. But while you're using one, you can adjust things like the focal length and get a very small area that's actually in focus, like the picture with the hard drive. I'm still getting used to everything as well. One recommendation I can make is to check out Magic Lantern guides. They are by far the best way to learn about your camera. I will try a dvd tomorrow and report back the quality. I remember 480p via component looked pretty damn nasty. Edges seemed very jagged and artifact'd as I recall.
