Malisk
A quick question -- is there some tool to losslessly cut parts from a WMV (WMV 9 in this case to be precise) movie, without re-encoding it?
+Fahim S. MVC Posted July 14, 2007 MVC Share Posted July 14, 2007 I doubt it as most modern video encoding algorithms use a moving blocks principle - that is the file does not contain every frame, but instead includes a key frame every so often and then the rest of the frames are stored as deltas on the previous one. So in short I'm guessing the answer is no... but I'd be interested to hear an answer from someone who really knows.
Malisk
Ah right... Hmm, but maybe it's possible to cut at a key frame spot (i.e. not exactly wherever you want, but possibly very close). AFAIK, keyframes can happen as often as every few seconds or so and I think that'd in some cases be "good enough". But you have a point there and it makes sense now that you can't arbitrarily cut parts of it at least. (and yeah, I now remember WMV9 use keyframes too)
