NOTE: Official patches are exactly the same as leaked patches, same CRC, same digital signatures. No reason to reinstall the if you previously installed the patches.

I have some good news, and some bad news.

First the good news, two most important updates to vista have been unofficially released (soon to go official)

938979 Vista Performance and Reliability Pack

This update resolves a number of individual issues which may be affecting some computers running Windows Vista. These issues have been reported by customers using the Error Reporting service, product support, or other means. Installing this update will improve the performance and responsiveness for some scenarios and improves reliability of Windows Vista in a variety of scenarios. Some examples of the improvements contained in this update are:

? Improves performance in resuming back to the desktop from the Photo and Windows Energy screensaver.

? Resolves an issue where some secured web pages using advanced security technologies may not get displayed in Internet Explorer on Windows Vista.

? Resolves an issue where a shared printer may not get installed if the printer is connected to a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 system and User Access Control is disabled on the Vista client.

? Resolves an issue where creating AVI files on Vista may get corrupted.

? Improves the performance in calculating the ?estimated time remaining? when copying/moving large files.

? Improves performance in bringing up Login Screen after resuming from Hibernate.

? Resolves an issue where synchronization of offline files to a server can get corrupted.

? Resolves a compatibility issue with RAW images created by Canon EOS 1D/1DS Digital SLR Camera which can lead to data loss. This only affects RAW images created by these two specific camera models.

? Resolves an issue where a computer can lose its default Gateway address when resuming from sleep mode.

? Improves the performance when copying or moving entire directories containing large amounts of data or files.

? Improves the performance of Vista?s Memory Manager in specific customer scenarios and prevents some issues which may lead to memory corruption.

now the bad news

938979 fix breaks all current methods of bypassing driver singing requirements except the good old F8 during boot (that you have to do every single time you start vista)

IF you are using Rivatuner, atitool and or Peerguardian on 64bit vista, you will have to use F8 every single time to disable driver singing requirements to use two programs.

One oddity, however, was the fact the speed indicator in the file transfer dialog remained at a fairly constant rate (48MB/s), giving us the impression the speed calculation code is borked. Despite this, however, these numbers are very encouraging given the hotfix's short life; we can't wait to see what the final build delivers!wait to see what the final build delivers!

Man these, I hope they do good:

• Increased reliability and performance of Vista when entering sleep and resuming from sleep.

• Improves the performance in calculating the ‘estimated time remaining’ when copying/moving large files.

• Improves the performance when copying or moving entire directories containing large amounts of data or files.

• Increased compatibility with many video drivers.

BTW, i installed these, and uninstall them because there is no pernament way to disable driver siging requirement in 64bit. Which is required for RivaTuner, ATITool and Peerguardian

"? Improved quality of playback for HD-DVD and Blue-Ray disks on large monitors."

No offense to the poster, but this statement alone makes believe this "Performance and Reliability Pack" is a scam. If i were you all, i wouldn't install it unless it came from windows update.

What's "Blue-Ray?" never heard of it. Also, they're not BLU-Ray disks, they're discs. It seems to me that if this were in any way real, the original maker of the list would know that. Contrary to popular belief, people who work at Microsoft are not idiots, and they wouldn't make such obvious mistakes in writing fix descriptions, official or not.

cheers for testing it, i wont be installing it, i can live without some of the improvments for now

Just a note try requesting the update through this link.https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/em...0&WS=hotfix
not gonna work
cheers for testing it, i wont be installing it, i can live without some of the improvments for now
you can install 938194, only 938979 enforces driver siging requirement

wow this is the real deal.

I haven't had a problem with vista on my laptop since I've got it until a few weeks ago where network traffic (up/down) would be extremely slow and sometimes lag out.

I tried everything from turning off firewalls and the relavant hotfixes, but alas no difference.

But after this patch, my network transfer speeds have been faster then what they were originally!

+1 These patchs.

vista 64bit requires that all drivers have digital signature (different than WHQL)

before 938979 hotfix there were ways to disable this requirement pernamently.

few free programs that require a driver to function and don't have digital signatures will not function.

rivatuner, atitool, peerguardian rc-1, just to name a few.

digital signatures for drivers can be expensive, and when you make free programs, you don't make any money, so who is going to pay for them to go out and get their drivers signed?

    • Here is the new Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper in high resolution by Taras Buria Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its brand-new high-end laptop powered by NVIDIA's brand-new RTX Spark processor. As usual, Microsoft gives each new device a unique wallpaper, and the Surface Laptop Ultra is no exception. While the device is not publicly available yet, somebody has already extracted its wallpaper, giving everyone a chance to get a piece of the upcoming laptop in its full-resolution glory. The Surface Laptop Ultra has a very dark, abstract wallpaper that resembles the stock wallpapers in Windows Server, albeit with much less color. Having this dark, grim wallpaper highlights the laptop's mini-LED display and its ability to cut off parts of the screen's backlight to achieve OLED-like black levels. However, if you also like light wallpapers, we made a white version by simply inverting its colors. You can download both wallpapers below (click the image, right-click it, and select "Save as"): The Surface Laptop Ultra is expected to launch later this year. Microsoft is not revealing full details yet, including the price. However, Microsoft confirmed up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and RTX 5070-level of GPU performance. The heart of the laptop has up to 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU cores. Additionally, Microsoft and NVIDIA boast high CPU efficiency for all-day battery life. As for the display, it is a 15-inch mini-LED display with a pixel density of 262 ppi and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Of course, not everyone needs this amount of power, and certainly not everyone can afford it. For those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is also preparing the next-generation Surface Pro powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Weeks ahead of the announcement, details about this computer were leaked by a retailer. Do you like the Surface Laptop Ultra's stock wallpaper? Share your thoughts in the comments. • From all that I've read on the subject--not that much, really--it looks to me like companies and parents are trying to protect themselves from children using their parents accounts to run up giant bills, sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and the first the parents know about it is when they get sued... Internet companies have been sued for tailoring their ads to children, which is kind of old news. My belief is that policing starts at home with the parents, and the reason that so many laws that can't be enforced are being passed is because parents are eschewing their responsibilities, claiming not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc. Giving kids cell phones sans Internet connectivity is a good place to start--confine Internet activity to PCs in the home that the parents regulate. My kids are all grown and gone, I'm happy to say... They have their own kids to worry about.

    • BTW DXVK is also available on Windows and offers similar benefits like on Linux when it comes to performance, at least in some titles. The Raceroom racing sim for example even offers DXVK as one of its officially supported options and it can achieve ridiculous improvements in certain situations, like quite literally doubling (or more) the framerates
