To me the last episode feels like it should have been in the first series as it felt out of place with what was going on, the bit at the beginning looked bolted on as such

I really liked this last episode. This season has been rather good so far in my opinion.

I never cared that the Dr was a woman, I cared that the writing for her entire run was bloody awful.

RE: The background music.

While Murray Gold is an absolute musical genius, they really should turn down the volume of the background/incidental music by about 50%.
