So, has anyone else catch the first 2 episodes of the new DW?

IMHO, this woke crap is going to kill the franchise.

Yeah, the first two episodes are very different. I don't think hardcore fans will be impressed.

Personally, I feel the show has lost its way but I'll give it another couple of episodes.

The things I liked about Gatwa, he brings an energy to the Doctor we haven't seen for some time (and I don't mean "awkward" energy, that also gets old after a bit). I like Millie Gibson too, I hope they stick with just the one companion.

I thought the CGI was really good, it looks like they've upped the production of DW a bit. Overall I liked the first two episodes, I did wonder what direction the series will be going in at the end of Episode 2, but then again we also got a full-on camp musical episode on Star Trek SNW, and I love that series.

But, is this a full reboot then? I noticed at IMDB "Doctor Who" is listed as 2005-2022 and there's a new one for the 14th Doctor, why?  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31433814/

I am not an expert on Doctor Who btw, but I have fond memories of Ted Baker as the Doctor from my childhood, I wasn't keen on those who followed (until the 2005 reboot).

EP1 was too slow, and boring.

EP2 was much better than the first one. Almost a horror vibe a few times. I liked it. It was alright.

@Steven P.I was wondering the same things. I noticed that this has been listed as season 1. That made me wonder of a reboot also.

Is this why they parked Tennant like they did?

Gatwa did mention his 'soul' was torn in two. ... Two Doctors?

Much confusion and questions have I.

So Timelords.... go through mitosis

No, only DisneyTimeLords do that...  This is the level of dumb that happens when the mouse gets involved in someone else's IP.  We know this from what they've done to Star Wars and Marvel... The BBC should be ashamed for selling out a national treasure.

I really dont think it's that.  Truly.  Honestly.

There's only so much depression and angst I can accept and frankly, I can take a WHO that doesn't have a lot of baggage.  Besides, the core bits are there regardless, it's not like suddenly Gallifrey is back and yay!  or the history is rewritten, yay!  .... nope.  He's just come to terms with it.  And it makes sense because of Tennant's mini-run.  It also makes sense because this is how Ncuti rolls.  I dig it.

What I am having trouble with (if anything) is the overabundance of fantasy.  Let me be really really clear though -- I'm willing to see how this plays out.  WHO has always toyed (ha!) with fantasy, but it's been strong-scifi, weak fantasy.  It seems that's flipped in a major way, but still... it's explained.  WHO has never really taken itself too seriously and that's really why I enjoy it.   My absolute favorite season with Matt Smith's first, and that was a touch or more of fantasy as well.

Jinkx totally rocked it.  Oh my gawd.  That was so amazing.  I really really really hope Maestro comes back.

I personally loved the cameo of Murray Gold too cause I'm a music nerd.

Space Babies was good for an introduction as well.  First eps of new docs are always a bit by-the-numbers.

If a show flips itself too far away from its origins, is it still the same show?  I don't mind if "New Who" fans enjoy the changes, but it's just too much for this old lag.  It's not the same show I fell in love with as a kid any more.  I put up with a lot of changes just to get the Doctor back, but now so much has changed that it's just not the same show anymore.  I'm done.  I have no intention to give it further chances to disappoint me.

It's not about the actor, it's about the writing and how they keep screwing with everything.  It doesn't matter if they explain it if the explanations change too much of what came before.

The Time Lord limit of 12 regenerations.  🤦‍♂️

And it was covered in the original show that this limit CAN be reset (it was offered to The Master in the Five Doctors in exchange for helping him), so the Timeless Child nonsense just wasn't needed. Nor is this "Bigeneration" stupidity... IMO, they did this because they clearly have zero confidence in Gatwa in the role, so want to keep Tenant as a backup, just in case.  I'm sorry, but as good as Tenant was, his time is done and they need to move on.

Dr Who is meant to be a fun action/adventure show, and it works best like that.  It just doesn't need all other crap that people insist on injecting into it just to make it "relevant" to modern society.  Not everything needs a love story...

While he was listing the titles his people use, he never listed The Master. I wonder if he might be The One Who Waits?

And him mentioning being an orphan also kind of confirms The Timeless Child I think.

The Cartmel Master Plan that a lot of this is echoing was abandoned long ago, before it ever really got going, with good reason.  We don't NEED the mystery of the Doctor's identity to be solved... He's a rebel with a cause, and that's plenty good enough to explain why he helps.

From an article:

'there is also some sad news as current showrunner and script writer Russell T Davies has confirmed that David Tennant’s previous incarnation of the Doctor will not be returning – and has, in fact, been killed off.'

'and David surprisingly popped up as the fourteenth Time Lord.'

'While the three special anniversary episodes ended with the Doctor splitting in two, with David’s character going into retirement and Ncuti’s new Doctor taking over the TARDIS controls, many fans were hoping that David would return at a later date – but now Russell has confirmed that won’t be the case.'

“I think he died,” Russell said in an interview with The Times. “I’m going to start saying that. He went to Venice, 2063, when the city sank and he went into a whirlpool, which is really sad…” Pressed on whether there still could be the chance of a return for David – after all, no one expected his most recent appearance – Russell added: “David is parked and retired and it’s all Ncuti’s show now. Genuinely. Not that David might be coming back – he’s absolutely not coming back.”

2063... and it's currently 2024, and it's a time travel show, and he has a TARDIS so.... riiiiiiiight!

I do find it a little giggly that people who always pop up to say "that's it, I'm done" are the same people saying "I can no longer tolerate <changes that are made now> because <similar changes that were done back in my day> were enough."  along with sometimes: "I don't like change!"

Who IS a fun action/adventure show.  And it's always been a little relevant to modern society, often more than you really realized.  We always accept things that are adjacent to ourselves, so the things that are not so close-to-home look like violations.  You remember it being appropriate for you when you first watched it, and now it's moved beyond that.  Omg, WHO show used the word "lesbian" ... THATS IT IM OUT.  Har.  I've heard that more than once across the who-sphere, but cmon guys, they exist.   Maybe it seems awful to those people because they're just not at all close to it.  Who cares, literally.

But but but ... but nothing.  Pertwee spent a ton of time driving around in a car and blowing things up with UNIT, practically a military show.  How quickly we forget, eh?  Or the doctor being married?  Having a child?  Tardis being alive?  And being SEXY!!!

It's totally ok to not like what's being done.  I'm not judging.  But to claim this isn't how the show works ... that'd be damned difficult.  I have avoided watching some Who seasons, I just couldn't really stomach Capaldi for some reason, or Colin Baker, their raw arrogance was just annoying.  So I get it!  Sometimes things have to align (in our own hearts and heads) for stuff to work.

I like Gatwa and he was great in Sex Education (the last season was awful) but I am not sure am really buying him as the Doctor.

Don't you know Doctor Who is a Disney+ original? LOL

Tom Baker was my first so yes I am also old...

I totally agree on why they did the whole bi-regeneration thing...a backup plan. No confidence in the new direction or Disney. I would sign up for another stint of David Tenant in a heartbeat but if went back to the original Doctor but it doesn't have to be Tenant as he could be around just long enough to regenerate.

I couldn't take Colin Baker either.

The only constant in this universe is change.

Colin Baker was bloody awful, and I couldn't stand Sylvester McCoy either.  IMO, his sole job as the Doctor was to completely wreck the show...

Yeah, not once did I mention that in any way, but zero points for trying, really...

They learned that anyone who uses the word "antiturst" in conjunction with "Microsoft" is an idiot, even if that person is Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. That judge ruined the image of the US justice system. Microsoft Edge has a 5.14% market share. Also, Windows is no longer the #1 OS. None of this constitutes a monopoly. Google Chrome, however, has 70.25% share. Also, Google's Android is the #1 OS. Now that's closer to a monopoly.
