Great... me and some people ran into standby-ers in the demo...

[uS] clan tag, the cheater was jetace1. Make sure you dont play with them.

^ You sure it wasn't just laggy?

I think it was just the lagg. I played with him and everyone had a single red bar except him. He had 5 or 6 green bars.

Nah I don't think you guys were in the game. It was me, Jay, and Tony + Mrchief, Hyper, and Dizzy. We were winning by 200 pts and were at 720 pts and then it started lagging and never stopped and the host was running around gettings kills and they won.

The teammates were making fun of us.

Lol, I did play with him. Must've been after you left though. Everyone in the game was lagging like crazy except him and he just went around killing everyone until it stopped lagging. It happened as soon as Jay called in a helicopter.

Question though, did you win? And was his team winning by a significant amount after the lag ended?

I hope you guys believe me. In my case, since we were at 720 points, the lag never stopped(went on for 3-4 min) because he wanted to make sure that they were gonna win.

I believe you. I forgot what the score was but the lagg went on for about a minute or so. I was about to leave but before I could the lagg was gone. On the plus side, we won. I remember something he said before the match was about to start. He said "Well, you could leave if you want..." right after I said "It's so laggy. Who's the host? jetace1?". By the way the map was Overgrown.

Wow, at least I don't feel so bad when this lag thing happened to me about a week ago. Me and a friend were playing together (same party) and we were playing a game normally. About halfway through everybody starts lagging even me but for the most part, I was fine. I looked at the gamestats to see I was the only with full green and everybody else had red. The match ended so I thought the problem would too. It continued into the next map until me and my guest just quit to see if that fixed the problem. It did and we have been playing fine ever since. What would cause this issue when I normally host stuff fine?

I know what you mean, it does look like standbying, I miss Halo 2 for that...

But I have to be honest, I get host more than I feel I should do, and I doubt my 256Kbit upstream is enough for a flawless game amongst 12 men. Sometimes I'll pull up the scoreboard, and see I'm 4 bars solid green, and everyone else is 1 bar red. I know for a fact i'm NOT standbying and it's either the game's netcode, or my connection is suddenly of even less bandwidth. I think in most cases, the situation you guy(s) are facing, are similar to this experience, so don't be so quick to assume the worst; afterall, nobody can achieve much in what's little more than a demo, right?

Here mate, urban dictionary is quality for moments like this.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=standby

In short, host gamers could effectively cause everyone else to lag, by hitting a standby button on their modem. That guy would then run around, kill everyone and resume play again. It's fair to say most British people don't have a 'standby' button on their modems, and as such have a lesser understanding of how it works. I'm sure an American will come in here and give us a full low down soon enough. :)

isn't there someway that the devs can stop that happening?

edit: wouldn't it only work if the host pushed the standby button?

Yeah, standbying only works if you're host but in games like Halo 2 there are ways to force host if you have another person in your party.

    • I agree, especially if it is cloud sourced, like this one is.. but I wouldn't say no to a local AI assistant similar to the Zettlab one which would be really helpful with my large Photos library, but also to perform tasks like installing Docker apps rather than me having to do it via Docker Compose, but I don't think we're quite there yet. Synology Photos is somewhat AI, you can ask it to search for certain people (if you have tagged them and it will attempt to match similar photos to the person) and if you put a search term in for "cars" for example, it will show you all photos with a car.
    • I doubt that Google will keep the same price... it may go up from that list published.

    • So the card is targeted at headphone users - so the review should be from someone that uses this - maybe I can review a card next time.
