Yep, it is nice to know. I think I may be using this at some point.

I have to admit, things have picked up since Chapter 1, they have. I am enjoying it more than I was, and I am only on Chapter 2.

With that said, I still think the overwhelming amount of hype and press is all because of the quality of MP, and not the SP campaign. I still feel the SP is very good at best, but nowhere near great.

You really must keep in mind I come from a PC background, and First Person Shooters are BY FAR my favorite genre, so I am very critical of them.

You also must keep in mind I never really thought Halo SP was anything special.

I also never really cared much about story. I know that may be a sin to say about gaming, but honestly it is true. I watch cut scenes most of the time, I just do not pay much attention to them. If I want a good story, I will read a book. If I want to shoot things and be entertained, I play games, so that is why story has never been high on my list for games actually.

i agree with everything you said, i am pretty critical with FPS too cause i am a PC gamer too. But there is something about Halo SP campaigns that is just so much fun.

I'm with everybody who thought chapter 1 was a bit dry and this is coming from as die hard halo fan as you get.

But now I'm moving on in the story it really has picked up again and I am now giggling like a moron at every twist and turn I really do love this game I do and I don't think I have ever bought a game that has brought me so much enjoyment and also multiplayer is not only the best to ever grace console but I really can't think of many PC multiplayer games that can hold up to this game there are some but they are a minority.

And before I end this rant I would like to just remind people that are saying this installment hasn't brought anything new to the table apart from new guns, new vehicles, forge, saved films, 4 player Co- ohh wait doh!! it HAS brought something new to the table

Also this is not targeted at anybody here just my opinion...

Loving This Game :D :D

Neowin Halo 3 Multiplayer Games and the participants are just awesome beyond comprehension :D

I think I'm totally missing the logic here. By having the wider screen you wouldn't really have to change ANYTHING in relation to the amount you can see vertically, all it would mean is you can see more to the left and right.

using the link posted a few posts ago: http://xbox360.joystiq.com/2007/09/25/halo...6-9-hdtv-edges/

The 2nd pic shows how the bottom two players have the same vertical draw as the guy on the top, except he gets some extra viewing to the left and right.

Yea, I didn't explain it correctly. That's how it seemed to me, you could barely see anything above or below in Halo 2 on widescreen split screen, but with Halo 3, the aspect ratio is preserved, so it ends up looking much better. The only problem is that it's smaller, but hey, it's split screen after all and I can't complain much on a 50" :p

If you really want to be immersed in a story and books are your thing, then I really recommend picking up the Halo books. It adds so much to the story and you really get immersed in the whole Halo universe. Great stuff in deed. (Y)

Also, you should go through the Campaign on Co-op (maybe 4 players even), after you have beat it. It makes the Campaign all the more kick ass. :D

No Doubt, I know I am going to have a blast doing Co Op, I am not downplaying that part of it at all, I definitely see how that is going to be an incredible amount of fun. I am just going it solo now to really try and get used to the overall approach to gameplay.

I really am not sharing my opinion to slam anyone elses more than I am sharing it just to point out it is not everyone's cup of tea. For example I am personally blown away at the poll currently going on about which is better, Halo 03 or Bioshock's Single Player. To me that is like asking a drug addict what is better, heroin or methadone. There is a very clear choice which is better. Bioshock IMO is leagues ahead of Halo 03 (even with it being slight repetitive). I know many will argue I need to finish Halo 03 first to make that judgement, and it is a fair argument to make, but I just know what I like.

Again, this is just all my opinion, and I know people disagree with it by the overwhelming positive response to Halo 03 so far. They are not wrong, and neither am I, although both sides tend to think they of course are the right ones.

And also, I am critical of the SP, but keep in mind I thoroughly enjoy the MP aspect of Halo 03 a ton.

The MP alone is going to serve it's purpose extremely well of holding me over until COD 4 comes out, or what I refer to as a real MP game! :p

I actually found a pretty good review of Halo 03 on the Escapist site (I was there checking out the latest Zero Punctuation) that makes a whole lot of points I agree with.

But even if you're a Halo fan already, if you're not planning to play online with this game, I can't recommend buying it. There is some replayability built in, in terms of the fluidity of the combat experience (another Halo hallmark), but I can't help feeling like I've been there and done that. While it's true I can probably replay the game 10 times over and get a slightly different experience each time (snipped for length), Halo 3 isn't so dramatically different from the first two to make me feel like I've really got my hands on something I'll want to tell my grandkids about.

Just to give you a tiny bit of hope Larry: *Holds his breath* The SP gets enjoyable after a rather obvious turn and reintroduction something. :shifty:

It's now about as predictable as transformers. But I've stopped nitpicking and I've just turned my brain off to television mode and now plodding though.

There I said it! I AM STARTING TO ENJOY HALO 3's SINGLE PLAYER CONTENT.

Multiplayer on the other hand I really need to find someone to play with! The big team matches are proving to be a bit hit and miss at the moment. Either everyone is silent as a door mouse or don't know when to shut the **** up- when you tell them saying "HAY JOO GUYS" for the n'th time isn't ****ing funny.

And the requirements for Hayabusa?

Also,

Unlock "We're in for some Chop" Achievement (Destroy an enemy vehicle with a piece of equipment in a ranked playlist or campaign )

"Equipment" they mean like a spartan laser or a box of tissues? Because I've killed a ton of vehicles in Single-player with weapons, grenades, sticking etc.

Good to hear.

And I think me being critical of the game is giving off the impression I dislike the game. I enjoy the SP, I do. And I am enjoying it more and more as time goes on. I just am stating I do not think it is the best SP experience on the 360. Again, That does not mean I am not enjoying it, just means I do not think it is the end all be all it is made out to be.

And are you on my friends list? Sorry if you are and I do not realize it, cause I am close to my 100 person limit, but I also cannot check XBox.com right now to double check. If not, send me an invite.

Time allowing, I plan on trying to get an all Neowin Social Match going this weekend at some point.

Should be easy considering over half of my list is members on here.

The only hard part is going to be convincing the people who are currently ranking up to break away for awhile and just have some fun. ;)

Equipment is the stuff you drop using the X button. Trip mines, power drainer etc

A Neowin social match would be awesome. I think part of what makes games like Halo in MP a 'love em or hate em' thing is the fact that you either have a bunch of friends you can game up with or you're out there as a lone wolf, just trying to fit in (which is where I am). One of the reasons I never got into GoW MP was because if you weren't in a clan or gaming with some people you knew, you kind of got forgotten.

Maybe it's me though?

Nope, it is not you. I agree 110% Online it is primarily all about who you play with.

Online is completely about who you play with. I am in a clan with abou a dozen others, and even though most of them aren't good players, they are good people and fun to be around. So even though we might make many stupid mistakes and pay for it, its freakin awesome to play with them! :) You just have to find the good people on live and just be nice to people, eventually you will build up a good group of friends to play with.

Although, playing with a few Bungie people and being able to ban people is freakin awesome as well, if only to hear the asshats denials about getting banned :p

I just waited through the credits, "HIBIW4B" - Hi I'm Bob I Work For Bungie. God I love Bob! haha! Its great to listen to a group after he says that! Usually total silence...

Edited by halcyoncmdr
who cares if you suck, it'll be fun with everyone on here
haha i dont care, and my CSS clan doesnt either =D.

To be honest I prefer playing with a bunch of ppl out to have fun and maybe clown around a bit than ppl that are too serious about winning.

This is official news:

Tonight I PWNED Halo 3 on legendary and got many achievements. I'm at 745 out of 1000. I loved campaign and now am online a lot more so I'll see you guys on. Three days with a Xbox360 and 980 gamer score total is not bad :p.

Did anyone recognize Nathan Fillion's voice in Campaign? :D He does the voice for one of the marines.

And as far as I know, his character name in Halo 3 is Mal Reynolds, same as it was in Firefly and Serenity. He has a line in the first level of the game where he says "Reynolds out."

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
    • OK so SearXNG is a meta search engine that you can install locally or use via a public instance. It scrapes other search engines which you choose and then sorts the results. Not as complicated as multiple relays
