LMAO. Anyone else managed to flip the Elephants on Sandtrap in forge? A few buddies and I were just doing it and when you walk up to them after they are flipped, it says something like "Press RB to flip... How did you flip the Elephant!?!?"

Yeah, something like "Hold RB to flip, wait, how did you do that?"

Not at all mate. I was considering buying a 360 for Halo 3 but without keyboard and mouse support, I won't now :)

Yea, my brother has it but I just find it impossible to play. It's a shame there isn't a reliable keyboard/mouse solution.

Not at all mate. I was considering buying a 360 for Halo 3 but without keyboard and mouse support, I won't now :)

You'll get used to it. I've only ever played FPS on a PC, for like 5 years.

After a couple days playing Rainbow 6 / CoD3 / Gears Of War.... you just deal with it.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to get accurate without even thinking about it. The 360 pad is surprising easy to get used to.

So I know some of you know about the disc problem that plagues some of the DVD's that were shipped with Halo 3. I was unlucky enough to be one of them (even though it was working before!).

In any case ... after reading a lot on the 'net about what to do, I received some strange instructions:

  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  • Place DVD, label side down in the pan.
  • Use a wooden ladel to push the DVD below the water.
  • Wait about 10 seconds. If you notice smoke from the DVD, this is normal (I was scared when that happened, I thought it was melting).
  • Take saucepan off heat and carefully remove DVD.
  • Place DVD, label side down, on some paper towel.
  • Take a lint free cloth and gently clean the data side.
  • Your DVD should now look like new!

The funny thing is ... it actually worked for me. No longer am I getting the "Players failed to load content" error, or "Failed to load game". I can actually play Halo 3, once again! :)

Thursday 4-Oct-2007 11:08 AM A western-developed 360-exclusive FPS popular in Japan? Impossible...

It's not impossible; Bungie's epic first-person shooter has actually gone down a storm in Japan, hitting the number one spot in the software sales charts in its first week.

With 59,000 copies sold in the past week, Halo 3 beat the likes of the mighty Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (55,000), Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (54,000), and the newly-released Tamagotchi DS game (54,000).

This will be extra good news to Microsoft considering that not only does Japan rarely give a damn about FPS games, but more significantly, poor sales of the 360 have left it in a distant third.

Fewer than 500,000 Xbox 360 consoles have been sold compared to 3.6 million Wii units and 1.2 million PS3s sold in the region.

Here's the top-ten sales list compiled by Media Create:

1 - Halo 3 (Xbox 360) 59,000 copies

2 - Pokemon's Mysterious Dungeon: Toki (DS) 55,000

3 - Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (PSP) 54,000

4 - Tamagotchi (DS) 54,000 / New

5 - Pokemon's Mysterious Dungeon: Yami (DS) 46,000

6 - Bleach Blade Battlers 2nd (PS2) 31,000 / New

7 - English Test 2 (DS) 28,000 / New

8 - Yu-gi-oh Duel Monsters GX (PSP) 28,000 / New

9 - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PS3) 27,000 / New

10 - Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops + (PSP) 25,000

Halo 3 has taken top honours in the Japanese charts after selling 59,000 copies in its first week on sale, GamesIndustry.biz reports. A far cry from its UK total of 466,000, but pleasing for Microsoft nonetheless.

It follows on from success of Gears of War in the Japanese charts last year - another Western title as you may have spotted. Even big role-playing hope Blue Dragon only managed to enter the charts in fourth after its first week on sale.

Halo 3 joined a handful of other new entries in the Japanese top ten this week, according to Media Create data, helping all non-Nintendo platforms undergo a resurgence in sales.

Doing the honours were Bleach Blade Battlers 2nd for PS2, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX for PSP, and surprising entry The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PS3.

These joined newcomers Tamagotchi DS and English Test 2 on, er, DS.

I know this is news should go in the general topic for Halo 3 we have. It's such a large announcement though I thought it would be good to have its own thread. If a mod wants to move it, feel fr:) :)

Yeah I've read about this technique and watched videos. It really does work. The hot water removes all the dirt from the disk that was put there by the pressers in the factory

Yup, I was pretty amazed that it actually worked. But now I can play Halo 3 again so I'm happy. :p

Personaly I wouldn't do this. Why does the water need to be boiling? Would be much better just to use luke warm water and some washing-up liquid.

After my girlfriend's parent's cds were smoke damaged in a fire we cleaned them all that way and they were all fine and smoke particles > pressing dirt.

I wouldn't advise using just any old washing liquid, but certainly just cleaning the disk with a wet warm cloth could produce the same result I imagine. The water has to be warm to lift the dirt off though, cold wouldn't do it.

    • For some reason I suddenly have the urge to go shopping at Sears.
    • So I did a quick test based on 3+ different public instances from the litany at searx.space ... and it spins everything rather differently. It seems that SearXNG is a meta-search engine (queries multiple search indexes rather than only Google's or Bing's or Wikipedia's or Reddit's) that operates in two modes: > public instances ... each instance opens itself to outside users who piggyback on its cached search history; this instance's own identity becomes known/tracked but end-users are hidden similar to an anonymization proxy; this instance's querying of major search indexes may be API based [rated limited, blocked, etc.]). > private instances ... your private install/instance that itself queries multiple (configurable) search indexes of crawled web content; every major Search Engine associates all traffic to your private instance (so your traffic is tracked via network usages) but client-side tracking (your own browser/computer specs) is flushed because it's a "server" doing the querying rather than your browser. My test asked the same 1 question to the 3+ engines and they all returned vastly different results: some had CAPTCHA failures against Google, some had failures against Wikipedia, and the actual results were also different -- some had auto-complete enabled, others returned a wikipedia highlighted excerpt despite the Wikipedia failure (hinting at results being cached from previous keyword matching), and others just gave an Are-You-Human non-CAPTCHA loop before returning random results. So this begs the caveat: Search query results will vary based on which instance is used because every instance queries the other search indexes separate (and thus its results are influenced on that instance's aggregate search history and index-access limitations). The major distinctions for SearXNG versus DDG or Brave: > The search UI is 'untracked' since no UI trackers are baked-in which would phone home or lay cookies into your browser (for DDG/Brave usage stats), > There is no 'crawler' that canvasses the Internet to discover fresh content (it leaves that to the major search indexes), > Queries multiple search indexes ("meta-search engine") based on the configurations and usage history of the server instance, > Privacy-friendly due to its ability to shield user tracking via standing up a non-local server instance connectable to major VPN providers: queries would all appear to come from general VPN/Proxy providers rather than your private instance (whether installed locally or on your own VPS in the cloud). PS: I've previously come across specialized search engines of this nature that indexes searches across media assets like YT, OF, etc. SearXNG seems to be a good backbone...if the rate-limiting/captcha/etc. issues were resolved.
    • For a guy who claims to hate Farage and the ignorant, gullible, rightwing racist skinheads sponsored by Putin that his lies represent, you sure are quoting them time and time and time again, mate. I guess you're conveniently ignoring the fact that your country and commonwealth just happened to work much better when it was still part of the E.U.? Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.
    • Do you live in the U.K? Do any of the people here that are against the UK leaving the E.U, live in the U.K? If not then why are you bothered? If you do live here then it is a different thing . Brexit was a good idea, should have done it years before, it was done badly, but the idea was good. You are saying the same thing as remainers do, oh we did what Putin wanted, we listened to the lies and Farage. I hate Farage and never believed most of what he said, certainly did not believe the £350m a week for the NHS. But we did pay a lot of money to the E.U and yes some of it came back, but what is the point of paying it out for only some of it to come back? Get out of the E.U, no money to them and in theory we can use the money to do things in the country. I said in theory, but our governments are a total and complete waste of space. No matter what colour rosette they wear. You and others say it was a mistake and yet the two main parties in the U.K are not looking at rejoining the EU, I wonder why that is? I was not tricked by anyone. Makes no odds now, we are out and have been for 10 years, what we need is a decent government to run the country. All they do is shout at each other like a load of kids and seems to do nothing and make this country more into a police and nanny state. Getting more like China all the time.
