It wasn't clever but he certainly has a plan behind it because as we know in the future Sayid works for Ben.

I don't think one and the other are related. Sayid is trying to get to the bottom of what is going on, and who the people really are. Exposing Michael was part of that, not part of working for Ben.

Ever since Michael got back Tom followed him. He called 911 right after the accident, (maybe even helped him out of a burning car or something) he bought an identical gun right after he saw Michael buying on etc'.

Seems pretty unlikely to me. Michael got the gun from a pawn shop. Do pawn shop carry identical guns? I don't think so. They take whatever people give them.
