Denon say Blu-Ray Profile 1.1 discs may not play on 1.0 players

Dude, stop blindly defending HD-DVD. Many people bought a PS3 for Blu-ray because, especially at release, it was the cheapest player on the market. Sales of the PS3 count. Also, Blu-ray software has sold more.

See what i like is that Toshiba thought ahead and made the HD-DVD specifications and because of havening easy upgradeable firmware and and Ethernet port to do so new features can be added without the need for new hardware whereas Blu-ray requires new hardware for new features , anywho i do think some of you forget that HD High-definition doe not apply to just video but also to content to the menu systems to how navigate to other items . HD-DVd was made with well Future capable integration in mind and Blu-ray just wasn't i mean wouldnt you be ****ed if back in the day you had to buy a new VCR for THX based VHS films because your current VCR couldn't play THX based films cause of the enhanced picture quality witch what if requierd the to play THX based films ya had to have a 6head VCR from someone just to play them.

I think all of the bickering on here is funny.

I also think that Boz's posts are pretty well thought out.

This article (if even remotely accurate) points out a very serious problem with the blu-ray hardware. While the blu-ray format itself may not be bad (even though it's made by SONY) it's sad to see that a product got released to the masses that was not yet completed. Changes to the format after they already made millions is clearly just a way to milk more money out of the consumer. This should not be tolerated by anyone.

I don't own either HD format, but recently I bought my first HD-TV. HD is awesome and I am going to be siding with HD-DVD.

I also have to add, I used to use my PS2 as a dvd player and it sucked so there is no chance I would ever buy a PS3 to use as a movie player. Given that and the fact that the PS3 is the cheapest blu-ray player helps me more easily choose HD-DVD. ( I will be waiting for christmas though since I read that Wal-Mart will offer an HD-DVD player for $199 )

Last comment and I am betting I will get flamed for this, but I have to bring it up. Remember the arrogance of Ken Kutaragi concerning PS3?

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64676

SCEI president Ken Kutaragi has defended the PlayStation 3's high price tag once again, declaring that not only will consumers be prepared to pay the cost but that the console is "probably too cheap."

I wonder what they are saying about the new blu-ray players people may or may not have to buy when they update to profile 1.1+???

    • Deal for those who want 1900 size electronics in their house? with 2026/7 hardware mhm.. not nice
    • Cheap labour, the same as the U.K. China pays their people pittance.
    • Those people that come over here on boats are already in a safe country, if they want to come over here then do so correctly though the right channels. I was born in the U.K, my family that came over here came so via the proper means. My partner came here via the correct channels, she also became a British citizen, she knows more about this country than most of them that was born here, including myself, she worked hard to do what she does. She will stick up for this country and have done a few times, when people from her own part of world have put the U.K down. We are not going to agree, all I said to start with is that maybe Trump has the right idea with this America first thing and maybe we should start doing the same. Maybe not as drastic as what he is doing, but we do need to sort this country out, we need to sort out tech instead of relying on the U.S and others. Again you have not shown why you are so annoyed that we have left the E.U and this is what it is all about? If you don't live in the U.K and live in the E.U are you annoyed that we left your little club? If you live in the U.K and is pro-E.U, then fair enough then I can see how it annoys you. Are you one of these people who lives in the U.K and have a holiday chalet in the E.U and can now only stay there for so long? If so, then that is bad luck. As I have posted before, I have no problem with people coming here to work, as long as they do if via the proper channels. We are out of the E.U, people voted out, and maybe if more people had voted instead of sitting on their backsides the results would have been different. But they like the E.U and our government thought no we would not vote to leave. How wrong they were, surprised me. I expected to wake up in the morning and hear on the radio that we voted to stay. As I said, we are out and have been for 10 years, we are not going to go back in anytime soon if we ever do, so we all need to make the best of how things are. Anyway, this is supposed to be a tech site.
    • Tim Cook: "The US over time began to stop having as many vocational kinds of skills." What's the point of wasting time getting those skills if you can't get a job with them? Good Lord, maybe he and his cohort of CEO's who exported all these jobs to China should just shut the f**k up :D
