OiNK under investigation as arrests are made.

The following quote from the BBC report shows that law enforcement et al still don't have aclue how P2P works...

A Cleveland Police spokesman said:"Once an album had been posted on the OiNK website, the users that download that music then passed the content to other websites, forums and blogs, where multiple copies were made."

If they press charges like they comment to the press, then any decent lawyer will get the OiNK dude off.

Haha the idiots. It's like something out of Brasseye.

"With these CD's they can then takeover your house and eventually, the world."

Never used it....Can someone please please give me an invite??????? ... oh...

What's the point in an invite? OiNK has been shut down. The websites are offline.

OiNK was different. I used it mainly for impossible to find out of production titles, which you can't generally buy anywhere. The hardcore of the OiNK userbase are/were generally audiophiles who generally spend money on music as well as sharing. Once again destroy a site while the industry offers nothing to fill the gap. Now give me a legal service to download rare back catalogue titles and i'll willingly pay.
I agree - I used oink for music that's not available where I live or for insane prices... If prices would be lower I'd probably buy more as well (retail that is)

However that's not the biggest 'gap' the industry leaves for me - I'm still wondering why I can't download any tracks legally which are lossless... Why isn't that available?

They can't afford the bandwidth for lossless and since they can get lots of people to buy 128kb/s tracks it isn't cost effective enough for them to bother.

I wish they would sell lossless, but I doubt it'll happen for a while. iTunes plus is a step towards lossless though which is a good sign.

copied my comment from the main story:

seems to be happening more and more these days

the problem I have with a story like this is the perpetrators will get a heftier sentence than a drink driver, thief or sexual predator

indeed, kept ****ing me off a couple of months ago as well... some semi-famous tv-star's computer had child pornography on it... he got 150 hours community service as punishment...

if I -for instance- get caught sharing copyrighted material, I have to pay a *load of money, be on probabtion for a year or 2-3 and maybe go to jail for a couple of months :\

that's not the point of the topic tho... it sucks oink is gone, but as stated before, something new will pop up untill that gets closed etc. Wonder when the industry will figure out that this isn't the way to go on...

An estimated 180,000 members of the site paid "donations" via debit or credit cards, ensuring that they could continue to access the site and its catalogue of music and other media.

Some ppl will/should be really nervious at this time...

indeed, its happened many times, torrent sites are like the pheonix, when one dies, someone has already copied the source code and created a clone of the site

Wow... it really bothers me reading these negative views towards this site. People are so ignorant they'll believe anything the media says.

Oink for me introduced so many artists I never would have heard of otherwise. I buy CD's just as much as I did before I came across Oink's, except now I buy CD's from less popular bands that never get songs on the radio, as well. Hell, I even paid 5 pounds for radiohead's new album. I didn't have to, but I did. Some people think it might not have been worth it, but I do. It will help get the message out that we are still willing to pay for music and we still do.

Supporting the RIAA and friends is NOT the same as supporting the artists. The RIAA are in it for themselves and the Recording industries, and its made clear by their half ass attempts to sue random people, and by the ridiculous terms under which an artist is forced to undergo when working under a contract. So before you go gallivanting about, calling us thieves, do some god damn research. Do your own thinking for once. Go read up about "contracts" that artists undergo, and you'll see why I'm so ****ed off.

Don't get me wrong. I do think pirating is wrong, and its similar to stealing (but it is not the SAME as stealing), and is not the best response to the recording industries' activities. However, what else can we do? I refuse to stop listening to music, music is very important to me. I refuse to stop supporting artists, but at the same time I refuse to support the recording industry.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Voidwrought are free on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe PC gamers can now jump in and grab two more games to keep this week, as the Epic Games Store's ever-present giveaway promotion has just gone through another refresh. Replacing last week's Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat offers, the store has brought in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition and Voidwrought to keep. From the duo, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition is an enhanced version of the classic title that was originally released in 2004. It comes with enhancements such as widescreen and 1080p resolution support, as well as increased compatibility with modern PC hardware. It also comes bundled with all the extra content from the Soaked! and Wild! expansion packs. "Control park finances, shops, services and staff to succeed in dozens of scenarios," reads the description. "Become a true tycoon and embark on your promising new career, or create your ideal park without money woes in sandbox mode. Satisfy your guests’ needs and keep your park running smoothly to succeed." If management is not your style, Voidwrought lands as a 2D action-platformer featuring hand-drawn cosmic horrors. The title touts tight platforming and close‑quarters combat, all brought together with a strong emphasis on mobility. "Descend below the star-scorched surface and explore the multidimensional depths below," says the studio Powersnake about the game. "Witness the corrupted revelry of the Court, lose yourself in the icy tunnels of the Old Waters, and discover the grim fate of the Abandoned Expedition." The RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition and Voidwrought giveaways are set to run until June 25 on the Epic Games Store, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, new freebies will take their place on the same day as always. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.
