OiNK under investigation as arrests are made.

Besides he broke the law. If you don't agree with the copyright laws you should get them changed, don't just set-up an illegal website and ignore them. He got what he deserved, his a dumb criminal. If he was smart he wouldn't of setup the site while living in england. He should have moved to a country without Copyright laws or attempted to change the laws in england.

Got what he deserved in my opinion :)

Signed: One happy copyright holder

ROFL, 2 years? I bet they're going to charge him because it took them that long to get an invite, what a bunch of tools.

In all honesty, after joining OiNK a few years back I've purchased more CDs than I had before. My music collection is now double what it was 2 years ago. I donated to help the sites up keep, I'm not worried in the slightest because I donated for the community aspect of things, not the hosted content. ;)

There is NO hosted content, ONLY torrents!

Poor guy. He was doing a huge favour for so many people. No matter what the news states, OiNK will be remembered by many as the best torrent site and he as a legend.

does anyone fear that due to the oink shut down, that they might track users down and send us notices/arrest us?

Yes...

I somehow cannot see this happening!

According to this:

http://torrentfreak.com/oink-investigation...f-users-071023/

they said that nothing will happen, but i think something will happen to all oink users

Do you seriously believe that? All 80 000 / 90 000 users? From all over the world, plenty using dynamically assigned IP addresses! I cannot see that happening! One or two poor sods will take the rap!

Regardless of whether you loved or hated OiNK, this blog post makes some good points.

Critical Backlash: Why We Need OiNK

Because there's been some confusion about my intentions with this post, I'll make them perfectly clear: I'm not condoning piracy or even promoting OiNK, really. What I'm saying is, the lack of a legitimate, legal service with the same quality, ease and variety of OiNK is a huge, gaping hole in the music business right now and if anyone wants to make money on a recording ever again, you guys had better fill it the hell up.
well said.

im sure everyone knows, this doesn't stop anything, another private site will grow and become just as big. their were already like 5 decent ones right behind oink.

:/ :wilted_rose:

So long OiNK.

But which site is going to take it's place !

give it a week or two.

What I don't understand is the handful of people in this thread who are actually glad that sites like Oink are slowly being killed off. I can only assume you have links to, or some other interest in the recording industry because I don't know of ANYONE who could possibly have a soft spot for or show any sympathy towards the recording industries!

They are crooks who take us, the paying public, for fools.

I've never even USED Oink but frankly we need more sites like it!

That's because those people are ignorant. They believe whatever the media says. The media stated that the admin made hundreds of thousands of pounds, because he charged for subscriptions to the site. Which is completely false, you could OPTIONALLY donate for server costs. But people are lemmings and do what the media tells them to do. It's sad actually..

Saw this and was wondering.............. I would be very supprised if it was the real Pedro!!

the link to the site from the name posted, is pointing to another very well known tracker called btmusic......... This site also appears to be down!

So happi am I that OiNK dead is.

Irrespective of the site, this has been on the cards for a long time, torrent site busts have been going on for a while now. Yes TPB got away with it, but only because they relocated. Torrent sites are not the place to be now, the authorities who used to go after the FTP groups have shifted gear towards torrent sites as its a lot easier to prove things. Sites have ratios, which is logged, so if X member logs in and downloads Y amount of data, then uploads Y amount of data (in order to maintain a ratio) they have all the evidence they need.

Say goodbye to torrent sites as we know it.

No . the torrent hydra is not going anywhere . .

also ratios can easily be modified and faked, and the numbers sent back to the tracker are not good evidence. Even the ip logs and email addys are not conclusive evidence that you participated in these so call "crimes".

it does suck that oink went down, you really can't imagine how much high quality music was accessible there. I've also noticed alot of other high profile private trackers have disabled invites today . . i guess they are nervous aswell.

BREAKING... OiNK released from questioning and is back home.

It has been reported in the official OiNKk chat room that OiNK himself is back home and online at the moment.

Let's hope his Nan has made him some tea and biscuits to soothe his nerves.

Man, if thats true they should give him his equipment back so he can reset his site. Afterall, the media bull****ted this story soo bad they should of pretend like he did nothing wrong before

I thing that oink is small potatoes.

The mourning day for all downloaders will come when TL will post there own "This site has been closed as a result of a criminal..."

Definitely, that'll be a ****ty day for me :p

he's out!

http://torrentfreak.com/oink-admin-release...custody-071023/

i never used the site, but i can see where people are coming from with the rare and lossless music.

there are literally no services besides physical cds that offer lossless music, i don't think three are at least

I posted the info first. I wonder if they gave him the go ahead to open up his site again

come on man....

"oink helped me buy their cds..."

"..if it wasnt for oink i would of never bought their cd..."

what a load of bull!!! Why would you buy something you already have? So tell me guys... if you go to Calvin Klein to look at a pair of jeans do you take them to try them out durring the day and if you like them you go back and pay for them? Nope it doesn't work that way right? So why can you do it with music?

Listen to a clip? Itunes lets you do that if you like it perfect if not your good to go. So everyone saying that they payed for a cd that they d/l is dumb!

Just my 2cents!

As I said in the news section...

It's called SUPPORTING THE ARTIST!

Plenty of times I've done that, now I'll admit that a few CDs I hadn't bought but the majority I had bought to support the artist.

Looooooooooool

You can have your 2 cents back, we don't want them.

Please don't use any analogies seeing as you got it completely wrong. Downloading music, and taking a physical copy of something are 2 different things. First of all, you would pay for the pants, wear them for a day, and bring them back if you don't like them. As long as they are in good shape, you can return them for a full refund at most clothing outlets. Doing this with a CD will never happen, because once you buy it, it's yours permanently. If you want to return something like that, it has to remain unopened, ie not used/listened to.

Second of all, we would buy something we already have because most of us have morals and believe that an artist deserves money for their work. Supporting the artist means more from the artist, which would be in our best interests as fans.

Not everyone likes iTunes or the other subscription services, etc. Be it DRM, prices, stupid software we have to install, whatever. I know some companies offer DRM free music, but this is not the point. Most of us would rather test out a CD to see if it is worth paying anything for. Sure, listen to a clip. That is a good solution, I admit. But it doesn't work for those of us who refuse to use these services. I would rather purchase the CD.

Please don't ever grace us with your comments again, its clear you can't be mature about it.

There's truth to those statements. I've downloaded albums through torrent sites, and there are a number of albums which I've actually bought afterwards (i.e. buying the CD). Although of course if you illegally download an album and then legally download it from iTunes or wherever, that's completely pointless.
