Official LOTRO thread

I noticed that website under games does not show LOTRO, whats with that? I have another question as well, never really bothered to ask before, is there Powerleveling in LOTRO, I can't seem to remember if its possible. And does your kin do anything like that? Cause I am only level 21, no alt. I would love to level to 50, and get more of the chapters done so that I can actually play MoM.

Hi bman. When you're on that site you then go to forums link. Sorry for the confusion.

http://www.thecrescentorder.com/forums/

I do think there is a form of powerleveling but our guild is not like that. Most of us enjoy the trials. I've been playing for over a year now and my main is only Level 42 as you could see in my previous post. We do have a lot of lvl 50's on but they also have alts and usually help out if our lower levels need help with stuff when they are not busy themselves of course. I still am working on Book 4 Chapter 6 so you're not alone. A lot of members are casual players but come out strong on Fri till Sun usually. Again the point for most is to really see the game world and get lost in it. Not to speed to lvl 50 and that content. It isn't going anywhere really. But if you want that I'm sure you can go to the LotRO Firefoot server forums and find a Kin that is more to your liking. In any event don't hesitate to look for me in game. If I can be of assistnace at all I'd be more than happy to help out.

Starting up playing again today (18th, 1 month till Mines Of Moria) and to my surprise my friend (hardcore WOW player) said he might be picking up LOTRO along with another one of my friends. I will finally have some local people to play my favorite game with!! WoooT!

It's kind of unfortunate because if you just judge by first impression there's not much difference from WoW except graphics.

You can say that of any MMO, but since WoW came after so many other MMOs including several from Turbine it's kind of empty. WoW has evolved nicely, but early on it had taken the best parts of Asheron's Call, EveryQuest and Dark Ages of Camelot and made a compelling game. But since WoW was the first MMO for the vast majority of people they call every new MMO a WoW clone, but WoW is nothing more than an evolutionary step from all those other MMOs, or a clone.

I'd also argue the classes play quite a bit differently in many cases and nothing compares to how well fleshed out the Burglar and Minstrel classes are, or how much more interesting the Hunter class is compared the the Ranger archetype presented in so many other games. You'd also have to ignore how much more rich the environment is, or at least only be familiar with the movie version of Lord of the Rings, and I'm not even going to touch on what an amazing job they have done with the Book quests.

So yea, it is unfortunate that so many people judge MMOs against WoW (which I am not knocking, just think is a bit over-rated) when virtually all MMOs share some common traits in game structure, and you really have to play long enough to start getting the benefit of those differences.

Yes many people judge it compared to WoW, but I just want to make sure I was not. I just said it can be hard to get into in the first couple levels if u already dont know or like the story of Lord Of The Rings.

I wasn't really rebutting you b, just making a statement related to other post I have read, hope you didn't take it that way.

bman are you a founder by any chance? If so, I may need to ask you to send me a referral after I finish my 14 day trial; the $9.99 monthly fee is very appealing :)

I use to have a founder account. Had to quit because something happened between OB and live that made it stop woring on my old computer. Now I have just re-subbed and if I can still do that I will but idk if I can.

Turbine has started up the $9.99 a month and $199.00 Lifetime again for MoM so anyone can jump on that if you are starting a new account. I'm not sure if this time existing accouints can take advantage though so you should check the www.lotro.com forums.

Yea I got my Lifetime for $199 (exchange rate = $240 as stated before) about 3 months ago when they had it before, though I had still 3 months I already paid for so I just got it. Love it, no worries about paying monthly, wooo! Didn't think they were going to give the option again, but glad they did.

Awww, noone play on Snowbourn? :(

Got my level 50 tank there :) in a good guild and loving it. Im on book 14, so I've gotta get it done before MoM! Preordered the special edition through play.com. I think I'll get my tank to 60 first then roll a Rune-keeper :D

Yeah the end of book 2 really requires a group to go in on at lower levels and I am just not that outgoing :/ But I plan to play more during the winter so...

You might want to try and be a little outgoing, you can get through book 3 pretty well as a high level solo, but I'd be shocked if you could get past the half way point of book 4. I have a friend I have played most of the game with and we can't duo book 4.

    • I'll wait for the root cause analysis. Looks like it's HP, Lenova, and certain configurations that are askew, hardly "all of windows." Time will tell.
    • Loading Topaz Photo AI freezes my system since this update...
    • I had issues with my NVME, it was running really slow (like 2/3 mb bandwidth) ... had to reverted via System Restore and all is fine now.
