What's the point of a trailer if it's already in theaters? These trailers ain't cheap!

For that much, there will be plenty of word of mouth, no trailer is needed any longer.

Think, People!

There will be a lot of TV spots for 24... since the SB is on FOX

Victoria's Secret is back as a Super Bowl advertiser for the first time since 1999...

This year's ad, however, is coyly G-rated. Supermodel Adriana Lima is modest by Victoria's Secret standards as she sits in a chair tossing a football and flirting. The theme: the games men and women play.

Also Alicia Keys might sing prior to the game.

Paramount & Universal movie Speculations

Paramount - Indy 4, Star Trek, Iron Man, Spiderwick Chronicles

Universal - Incredible Hulk, Hellboy 2, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,

I bet Fox will also have some too... In house, right?

X-files 2, Jumper, Horton Hears Who, maybe... Hopefully X-files 2 Teaser!!!

GO DADDY SPOT REJECTED BY FOX CENSORS - "According to the Arizona Republic, Go Daddy?s most recent submission was shot down by Fox execs because it contained three separate uses of the word ?beaver? by spokesperson/race car driver."

Iron Man Annouced? I looked up some, and found that's the case.

Warner Bros have also bought time? Not at Adage.com, but other site said that's the case. Hmmm, Batman?

The 2008 Super Bowl will contain more than 30 minutes of commercials, not including marketing messages from the NFL or ads promoting Fox programming. Along with automakers and movie studios, the list of advertisers includes perennial entrants, as well as some who are back in the big game after several years' absence.

Budweiser: Anheuser-Busch, the game's top advertiser and locked in as the Super Bowl's exclusive beer marketer through 2012, is planning eight commercials that reflect the importance of its core Budweiser and Bud Light brands. While still in the midst of focus groups with 600 consumers and 20 potential ads, the brewer says spots sure to make the cut involve a cat and the special abilities Bud Light gives and a man who brings a big wheel of cheese to a wine and cheese party.

This year's spot featuring the iconic draft horses -- and one hard-working horse named Hank who doesn't make the cut to join the team -- tested higher with focus groups than the brewer has ever seen before.

"People are really looking for a positive, reinforcing message in this time of cynicism," said Bob Lachky, executive vice president of global industry and creative development for Anheuser-Busch. Most of the ads are from DDB Chicago.

CareerBuilder.com: CareerBuilder last year took heat for firing its popular office chimps and introducing a new campaign during the Super Bowl that included savage office workers using three-ring binders as protective headgear. That "jungle" campaign has been shelved, and the new "start building" campaign, with two 30-second spots, will break during the Super Bowl. One ad, meant to give an unhappy office worker a humorous kick in the pants, features a realistic-looking heart with legs running to the boss. (Tribune Co., publisher of this newspaper, owns a stake in CareerBuilder.)

Cars.com: Cars.com, absent from the game for several years, will launch its 2008 marketing campaign with two spots, one in the first quarter and one in the third. (Tribune Co. holds a stake in the owner of Cars.com.)

Coca-Cola: Coca-Cola, last seen in the Super Bowl in 1998, returns with three spots, one of which is being created specifically for the game.

Frito-Lay: Frito-Lay's Doritos brand will use its 60-second spot to showcase the music video of an undiscovered musical act that won its "Crash the Super Bowl" challenge.

Garmin: Garmin International is back with one spot, but its Maposaurus character, which drew mixed reviews last year, has been benched. Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management labeled it as the Super Bowl's worst ad.

GoDaddy.com: GoDaddy says it will be back in the game once a spot is approved.

Kraft: Kraft, another marketer back in the game for the first time in a decade, has a 30-second commercial in the second quarter that plays on men's innate desire for Planters Nuts.

Pepsi: PepsiCo's Gatorade unit will use Derek Jeter and Dwyane Wade to support the launch of G2, its new low-calorie beverage. Gatorade began running 15-second teaser ads late last year but didn't reveal the celebrities.

Procter & Gamble: Tide to Go instant stain remover is set to air a spot during the second quarter. Tide is a newcomer to the game.

Salesgenie.com: Slammed for its ad last year, Salesgenie is following up with three 30-second animated spots.

Victoria's Secret: Back in the game for the first time since 1998, Victoria's Secret will feature model Adriana Lima to launch its Valentine's Day marketing promotion.

This playboy sure can throw a party

The big-haired, devil-may-care, My Way heyday of '60s Playboy will come to life tonight in a 52,000-square-foot tent in the middle of the desert.

About 26 bunny costumes and the bodies to fill them are on their way, Hugh Hefner and his girlfriends are airplane-bound, and 500 sleep masks await guests in the retro-themed party's gift shop. It is arguably the most anticipated and luxurious Super Bowl party, open only to those with lots of cash or cachet.

Over 28,000 mini appetizers, 8,000 cocktail napkins, and 840 bottles of Cuervo tequila are ready. The vintage televisions are installed in the newly constructed Playboy TV Lounge, and gold letters on a rock wall spell out the theme: Playboy Desert Oasis and Resort. Nearly 35 valets have been briefed on proper vehicular behavior, and 60 rabbit-head pillows grace white tufted sofas in the celebrity cabanas.

But the most telling figure might be the number of would-be partygoers Playboy has turned away: at least 1,000.

The swanky, sexy, million-dollar soiree is part of the Super Bowl's entourage each year and is the talk of every town the Big Game visits. People want to know where the big bash is held (at the Rawhide Pavilion in Chandler), who is going (Amar? Stoudemire, the starlets from The Hills, and Rick Fox), and, of course, whether or not they can come, too. (Yes, if $1,500 to $2,500 ticket prices sound like a number they can handle.)

Between 1,800 and 2,000 lucky guests are expected to be allowed inside, including celebrity host and rapper Common and guest DJ Nick Cannon.

Each year, the minute one party ends, plans for the next Super Bowl party begin.

"We literally pack boxes and start talking about next year," says Donna Tavoso, vice president in charge of special projects for Playboy.

Arizona's bunny bash has likewise been a year in the making, and it's a biggie. On Wednesday morning, the party site was an empty dusty tent in the middle of a muddy faux western town.

Tonight, Playboy's newly constructed Desert Oasis and Resort will welcome media and guests from across the globe to one of the most posh and polished parties the Valley has ever seen, and the production team had just 3 1/2 days to make the mirage come true.

These party pyrotechnics required ten 53-foot semitrucks that came from New York and even Las Vegas filled with sound equipment, furniture, and lighting. Event mastermind Tony Berger of Relevent brought in 33,000 square feet of carpet, 22,000 square feet of decking, and 80,000 linear feet of black velvet curtains that line the tent.

There's a giant martini glass that will hold a live Femlin (a Playboy icon), and a glass-walled VIP room where Hef can court celebs and regular guests can watch and gawk.

In back, behind the curtains, there's a green-room escape for Hef and places for the Bunnies to sit and rest their feet.

"The high-heel thing is just something you never ever get used to," says bunny Pilar Lastra, who will debut a brand-new deep-purple costume tonight. The bunnies are in heels from 9:30 p.m. until 3 a.m., and "the cuter the shoe, the more pain you're gonna be in," she says.

"But the high heel makes all the junk in the trunk look very properly stacked."

Levy Restaurants is sending eight chefs, 25 cooks and 600 sheet pans filled with retro-themed appetizers such as mini Beef Wellingtons and tiny versions of Chicken Cordon Bleu.

In a nod to Arizona, there will be 1,000 mini honey walnut tacos and 1,600 Route 66 mini burgers with smoked cheddar cheese and green chiles. These required 400 pounds of ground beef.

An entire busload of girls from the University of Arizona will arrive to up the femme fatale factor, which already includes 20 models wearing nothing but body paint. This is Playboy, after all.

"You're going to pull up and see this behemoth that will glow out in the night - and it truly will be glowing," says Berger. And once inside, "you're going to think 'I cannot believe I'm in a big tent in the middle of a cowboy western town and I've been transported to this other time.' "

Hefner himself is quite excited. He actually spent time in Arizona in the '60s, when there was a Playboy Club in Phoenix and he would come to town with girls on his arm.

"I'm looking forward to it," he says. "I have good memories of times in Phoenix in the past. Now, it's just a matter of showing up and having a good time."

    • A coalition of publishers sued OpenAI and Microsoft over scraping content without consent by Hamid Ganji Image via Depositphotos.com AI companies often rely on readily available internet content to train their chatbots and provide users with instant answers. This method of AI training is fast and relatively inexpensive, but using a website’s content without permission or compensation is not something publishers like to see, and this is exactly why Microsoft and OpenAI are now being sued. As reported by Bloomberg, a group of publishers that collectively own nearly 400 newspapers has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft. The coalition argues that the two companies scraped their content to build AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot without paying any compensation. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, argues that while AI products have generated billions of dollars in market value using publishers’ work, none of that value has been shared with the publishers. The plaintiffs are seeking statutory damages and injunctive relief for alleged copyright infringement and violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. “Defendants systematically and secretly crawled the Publishers’ websites—including content behind paywalls and other access restrictions—and copied the Publishers’ articles, stories, and other original works onto their own servers without authorization,” the complaint states. The publishers also described the AI boom as a “death knell for local journalism” if AI companies that scrape content for free are not held accountable. Former New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin and his law firm, Platkin LLP, are representing the publishers. “Our models empower innovation, are trained on publicly available data, and are grounded in fair use,” OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri told Bloomberg. This is not the first lawsuit involving the unauthorized use of publishers’ content by AI firms, but it is one of the largest coalitions ever formed against the free use of content by AI chatbots. In 2024, OpenAI and Microsoft also faced a similar lawsuit from eight newspapers that claimed AI products were benefiting from their content without permission.
    • Rufus alternative Ventoy now supports Windows 11's mandatory update, fixes major boot bug by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has its own official Media Creation Tool used for making bootable USB media, there are some popular third-party utilities as well which offer additional options like bypassing system requirements, Microsoft Account creation, and more. One of these is Ventoy, and the software has received its latest update today. In fact, the app actually got a slew of updates over the last couple of days, three version releases in total, to be specific. The first release, version 1.1.13, was pulled as there was some unspecified error in the update, and as such, the corrected version 1.1.14 was pushed out. Following that on very short notice, 1.1.15 was published as well. For those unfamiliar, Ventoy is an open-source utility that lets users create a bootable USB drive once and then simply copy ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD, or EFI files onto it without repeatedly formatting the drive. It supports both legacy BIOS and UEFI boot modes, Secure Boot, and a wide range of operating systems, making it one of the most versatile tools in the category. The biggest change in version 1.1.14 is an updated Secure Boot shim file aimed at resolving the UEFI CA 2023 issue, which is basically a compatibility problem that has affected Secure Boot environments on some systems. If you recall, we reported about severe boot issues on HP devices following the release of updated Secure Boot 2023 keys. For anyone who may not be aware, back in early 2024, Microsoft announced that it was updating Secure Boot keys as they were going to become 15 years old in 2026, which is also when they are set to expire. As such, the new 2023 certificates have been rolling out with the newest Windows 11 updates. Updated boot manager and Secure Boot certificates are crucial for protection against malware like bootkits. These are mandatory updates. Alongside that, the VentoyPlugson graphical plugin configurator was updated in sync with the release. The update also introduces a new VTOY_SECURE_BOOT_POLICY option within the Global Control plugin, giving users more flexibility in managing Secure Boot behavior. Ventoy has also received a fix for a startup issue when Secure Boot was disabled. Microsoft does officially allow users to boot systems without Secure Boot as long as the PC is Secure Boot capable. The full changelog is given below: Update secure boot shim file to solve the UEFI CA 2023 issue. The new release use a new CA, so you need to enroll the new key for the first boot time. VentoyPlugson update synchronously. Global control plugin add a VTOY_SECURE_BOOT_POLICY option. Fix the boot issue when Secure Boot is disabled in the UEFI firmware. You can download the latest version of the app here on Ventoy's official GitHub repo or from Neowin software stories.
    • Windows 11 is fine, no issues on any of the machines I've run it on since release. The stricter security requirements are a good thing, sometimes the baseline needs to change and people will winge, but it is what it is. Happened with the move from 9x to NT - broke compatability Happened with XP SP2 when security started to become a serious consideration Certainly happend with Vista that brought in UAC, the concept of not running as admin (something that has been the norm in Linux/Unix from pretty much the start) and a completely new driver stack. Windows 11 will probably get looked back at as the point where even consumer and SMB IT was dragged kicking and screaming into a somewhat secure by default configuration.
