NightmarE D
I don't see why some people don't understand the lack of HD versions. Did people forget there was a format war going on not very long ago? DVD's come out first because that's what everyone has. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray were at war and some studios didn't choose the format they wanted yet. Some studios didn't want to spend all the money to put out one movie in 3 different formats so they waited until after the format war to release movies in whatever format won. Don't forget that even though Blu-Ray won, it still doesn't have a big following yet. So studios aren't going to be so fast on releasing movies in that format. As far as the movie itself, I thought it was pretty good. Better than I thought it would be. People keep complaining about the monster and how you don't know anything about it. That's one of the main points. The story wasn't about the monster is was about the group of friends. The only thing that really bothered me was the amount of talking by the camera guy. He's annoying, but you have to keep in mind that he's supposed to be annoying so it fits in with the story. They could have picked a better actor though. The movie was made to look and feel realistic and they nailed it IMHO. If a huge monster suddenly appears and attacks your city, you're not going to know how or why and you're going to be wanting to get the hell out of there and if you happen to be filming a party, you might keep that camera rolling the entire time. You're not going to sit at home on the internet trying to find out what it is. Lqv2015
to me I am legend and cloverfield are right on par, both 5/5 IMO.with I am legend I was able to get into the character a lot more, you know what I mean? and me living here in Manhattan, seeing the things I see everyday deserted and ruined was really good. will smith really did a good job. everything was just great. I liked cloverfield's style, emotion, and the little things that it incorporated here and there that left you thinking was great as well. both were awesome. I thought both movie were equally horrible. And I agree with the above statement. BluRay just won the war. It takes time for movie companies to make that transition to the new format. I need to do some research, but maybe the company that owned Cloverfield was in the HD DVD group. Techno_Funky
I would. Cloverfield was much more entertaining IMO than I Am Legend. I Concur .... I've seen I Am Legend ... and Cloverfield is way better. hackdoom
I'm going to watch this movie today on DVD, and I am curious as to why they named it "Cloverfield"? Is there already a clear answer for this that I should have found on Wikipedia? :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/613807-cloverfield-2008/page/12/#findComment-589355307 Share on other sites

sn00pie
I really liked the movie... that hot chick reminds me alot of Megan Fox. It was sad to see the camera guy die at the end, but it capped off a pretty good movie. My only gripe with it was maybe its length, I felt they could've shown the monster more and made it slightly longer. 7/10 though I'd watch it again. Ayepecks
Just rented it... awesome movie, I thought. I agree with the above -- it was really unique and fun to watch. Kupo-Cheer
I watched it awhile ago. It was better than I expected, and actually a pretty good movie. Some partially cheesy acting, but the majority of it is actually believable. Sethos
Just got around to watching it and i must say, pretty disappointed. Had some pretty horrible CGI effects at times, the story lacked substance for me to care ( Random people, two lovers and a random monster? ), the 'Amateur Camera' idea was horrible and made the movie a pain to watch. Plus, i expected a sci-fi monster flick - I got to see the damn thing a handful of times for 2 seconds and the rest of the movie was filled with /yawn Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/613807-cloverfield-2008/page/12/#findComment-589385733 Share on other sites
Ayepecks
I actually didn't find the movie hard to watch, personally. It was easier for me to watch than The Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum. There was some weak CGI, but I never thought it was horrible, personally... there wasn't too much bad CGI, anyway. I liked the perspective of the movie, following a group of friends and their journey trying to escape. It showed what I'd consider to be a lot of realistic human emotions and actions. I can see why some people would be put off by it, though... to each their own. Ultomato
this movie's nothing special. the camera perspective is different but it felt like was a more of a gimmick and used for hype. If this was shot in regular perspective it wouldve been even more boring than it already is. 6/10 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/613807-cloverfield-2008/page/12/#findComment-589395527 Share on other sites

HTF
i liked it, but like ayepecks said the cgi is a bit weak. i thought the previews look like it was gonna be horrible then i say everyone talking about it on here, and decided to give it a chance. and i ended up liking it. the camera angles weren't bad at all. Berserk87
the movie was pretty good. the camera view certainly added a certain fear factor too it. i really didnt like the lacking storyline though, it was intresting and gave us tidbits of what was happening, but you learn nothing about the monster, were it came from, what it is, if they kill it or not... it looked like it was dead, and dragging itself around, then its standing overtop of them without a scratch on it?! multiple monsters? maybe im just really slow :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/613807-cloverfield-2008/page/12/#findComment-589435548 Share on other sites
That Guy Veteran Posted May 28, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 28, 2008 I thought it was mediocre at best. Storyline? Non-existent Fear factor? The only part that made me jump was the loud explosion at the start, because I was doing sit-ups at the time. And a satisfactory ending?
