Just curious, has anyone ever experienced a crackling sound on their speakers through USM or PSM for that matter? It was not a lot, and would happen at random intervals, but it was definitely enough for me to notice. It would not happen for 10 minutes, then happen like every 10 seconds. Same deal all night pretty much.

It started happening to me last night, and I just redid all the wiring on my entertainment center last weekend so the first thing I thought of was I had a loose wire somewhere, but it turns out I was only getting the crackling with anything streaming through USM. I googled it, and it does seem to be an issue a few other people have had, but no one posted any fixes for it.

So I have a few options. Redo the audio settings on my PS3 itself, or check and see if my settings on USM are perhaps messed up.

I just installed the latest posted USM above (the 2.5.1) and I did a clean install, so perhaps that will fix it, but just wondering if anyone here has experienced the same thing and knows how to fix it?

Universal Media Server v2.5.2: Windows / Linux

    • Made detection of network speed more accurate (thanks, ExSport!)
    • Library scanning interface improvements
    • Set a higher maximum memory by default via the Windows installer for computers with 4GB+ of RAM

Been using my ump alot more lately (finally watching Walking Dead) and have had zero audio issues. I installed the new version 2 days ago I think, also a clean install and the only issue I ran into so far was some stuttering 40 minutes in (turns out it ran out of buffer, most likely because the laptop is a pos). But no audio issues at all, only setting I changed after clean install was the keep DTS checkbox.

It just started happening this past Saturday, never saw it prior. So maybe one of my connections is lose somewhere, as I did rewire everything. I did a clean install of UMS though which I have not tried yet, so hoping that does it. It was driving me nuts.

Well if you run the speaker test on your onkyo you should be able to tell if its the speakers/onkyo or the settings in ump. If the crackling is coming out of all speakers only during ump playback, its most likely not the speakers/connections (would be very rare for all of them to get messed up). Didnt you say you saved all your old versions... maybe revert back to an old one to see if it still happens.

You can download it from the front page. OS X version coming soon.

      [*]Fixed DTS muxing with FFmpeg

I actually did do this without ever seeing your response, and it did prove it was the software. The last one I installed I just did a clean install, and it seems to have fixed itself. I think because I always copy and pasted the configuration file on every install, it eventually maybe got corrupt or something.

Anyone knows how to fit the movie resolution to the TV? I play MKV from Mac to my 32 inches TV and it didnt resize to fit the screen. It just went out the edge of the TV.

Did you ever sort this out? I would think this is either a setting on the PS3 or the TV itself, as I do not think a setting even exists on the software side.

Thanks as always MediocoreNoob for posting the latest build, will install it this weekend. (Y)

And just a general question, recently one of the builds added support for my Onkyo receiver. It was actually in the release notes and it now shows up as a detected device. Has anyone here used just there receiver to play movies? I am wondering how it would wind up doing.

Oooo, looks good! Will try.

I used it this weekend, ran flawless, and things were definitely more responsive overall. Go To worked the best it ever has, and it could just be my imagination, but DTS audio sounded really, really damn good. It also seemed to be louder than it ever has been, in a good way though. What I mean is for whatever reasons whenever I streamed movies, I had to turn the volume up, it just was not as loud as the volume coming from games for the PS3. now it seems to be the same, so I do not need to put the volume up louder. Whatever it was, the sound really did sound the best it ever has.

Also I like the little touch they added for the app itself. When you first launch it on your PC, it asks a series of questions (do you have DTS support, what is your networks bandwidth, etc. etc.) and configures everything accordingly. Although I am pretty sure I always set things up correctly manually, was a nice little touch as I said. Seems to be a very solid release.

    • Microsoft wants to end printer driver headaches with Windows Ready Print by Usama Jawad A few days ago, Microsoft released Windows 11 Experimental build 26300.8553, bringing a ton of enhancements such as Start menu customization, search improvements, Taskbar polish, and other minor UI tweaks. Another relatively major enhancement snuck deep within the change log was related to upgrades to the Windows printing experience. Now, Microsoft has shared more details about these benefits. For starters, Microsoft has renamed its Modern Print Platform to Windows Ready Print. The company believes that this name highlights its shift in strategy, which now focuses on modernizing, securing, and streamlining the printing experience for Windows devices. Some of the upgrades present in Windows Ready Print have already been seeded to customers and partners. This includes ending support for third-party printer drivers via Windows Update and transitioning towards the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and the native Windows IPP printer driver. In line with these changes, new printer installations will default to Windows Ready Print on eligible devices starting from July 2026. However, Microsoft recognizes that not all environments will be able to migrate to this platform immediately, so it will allow users to choose between installing the printer via Windows Ready Print or the traditional OEM process. Users will be able to toggle this configuration through Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > Printer preferences. This control applies only to new printer installations, and its functionality can also be modified via Group Policy as follows: Launch Group Policy Editor Navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Administrative Templates -> Printers Find and select 'Configure Windows Ready Print driver ranking' -> double click to open it Select 'Enabled' (if you wish to enable Windows Ready Print driver selection) or 'Disabled' (if you wish to explicitly disable Windows Ready Print driver selection). Select Apply Select OK Similarly, if you set up Windows protected print mode through the same setting in Windows 11, it will also default to using Windows Ready Print exclusively. Microsoft hopes that these improvements will help eradicate dependency on OEM-specific driver installation processes and simplify printer installations. We'll likely find out more about other tangible benefits in the coming months.
