Firefox 3.0 Beta 3

Recommended Posts

the FF3 UI is Vista doesn't match to me.. but I can live with it
the Vista theme should land for beta 4
The navigation icons look like they were made by an 8 year old. The ones in FF2 were seriously better.
XP's Luna theme looks like it was made by an 8 year old.

These icons are supposed to better integrate with the OS.

im not goin to firefox again, im staying with opera for now. a few things bothered me, the fact that the UI look shiite on my vista, no home button and the performance wasnt that amazing either. :(

1) Beta 4

2) Yes it does

3) Just as good as Opera and doesn't have the rendering quirks Opera does.

same thoughts lol

They should of used Vista's blue boobs

Sure. I think they should use the blue boobs too. Why can't mozilla just use the standard Windows Vista 'look' with the transparent toolbar and address bar.

I don't get why the <- and -> buttons need to be different sizes, it's annoying.

If they keep them buttons, it will put me right off. Atleast they still have the same smaller buttons... for now.

The "blue boobs" are in there, but the code to load the different toolbar icons based on the OS version isn't (that'll come in Beta 4)

And you just can't flip a switch and have a glass toolbar, they would either have to limit what extensions could do in that area, or limit how much you can customise it.

Maybe if you bothered to make one, I wouldn't have such a hard time figuring out why you continue to post in this thread.

So that it loads when they start a new browser session, maybe? Are you saying that in order to be less redundant, someone ought to set their homepage and create a bookmark for their home page?

Being an almost completely subjective metric in this case, convenience isn't the basis for real argument.

Well I guess you're alone in that regard. Google for interface design rules: interface%20design%20rules&complete=1&hl=en. Click the first search result, and read it's first rule:

Don't even get me started on Opera's fast-forward and rewind buttons. :p

 I never said IE7's Home button was on the bookmarks toolbar. Heck, if I was going to say that I'd at least used the proper name; IE7 doesn't have a bookmarks toolbar, it has a Links bar. Try again.

I said "It mimics IE7", meaning that the home button is out of the way of the proper navigation tools: the back, forwards, stop and refresh buttons.

See:

IE6-IE7.png

My goodness, can you just quote like a normal person?

It doesn't mimic Internet Explorer at all, because Internet Explorer doesn't have a bookmarks toolbar. If it did, and the home button was on it, it would be mimicking it. You should really clarify your comments next time if you're trying to make a point ;) And I'm not making a point? Please. Whether or not you disagree with me, it's absolutely silly to say I don't have a point. It may be a point you disagree with, and you may not find it well supported because of that disagreement, but it is a point nonetheless.

My point (as I've stated time and time again), is why have a home button in the bookmakers toolbar? Chances are you're going to have a bookmark of your home page already. The reason the home button on the command bar is for convenience, as I've said time and time again.

Yet again, you are missing the point: if they want it to load in a new browser session, and already have the page bookmarked, what on earth is the difference going to be? It loads up either way. Chances are if a homepage is that important, they'll put it in their bookmarks. Furthermore, if they want a group of pages to open up on startup, they can already do that. Yet again, everything you're claiming that will be capable because of this move is already capable.

And all your design rule does is back me up. Who wants more elements with a bookmarks toolbar? Adding a bookmarks toolbar is going to take up more space than a homepage button ;) Thanks for the supporting source, though :) You keep bringing up this whole space issue... if it bothers people that darn much, they can use the small version of a theme. Chances are they will.

Listen: you think what you want, I'll think what I want. But to say there's no argument on either side is silly. There are almost always two valid sides to an argument. Clearly that's the case here, as others have echoed my sentiments.

Ayepecks... sorry to say, but shakey_snake is absolutely right. I'm not sure why you're continuing the discussion. Just drop it already.

I'm sure you'd love that, magik :) But an opinion is an opinion. You think he's absolutely right, I think he's absolutely wrong. Maybe HE should drop it already! Seems funny that others have said the same thing here... guess they're also absolutely wrong. :) It's personal preference -- get over it, and really, please stop replying to my conversations just to spite me. It's getting old.

Wow, I give up. You're not even trying to read what I've written. (N)

Sure, no matter how many interface design guides and examples I can link you to to in support my arguments, your perpetual stream of straw man arguments deserve equal consideration. Edited by shakey_snake
For some reason, the dev's removed the about:config option to turn off the new "Awesome bar". There was really no need for them to do so but they did.

Anyway, First install nighty tester tools from here

http://www.oxymoronical.com/web/firefox/nightly

Go to addons > Make all compatible > then click on nightly tester tools > Options > addons > Disable addon compatibility checking.

The addon should now install correctly.

Excellent, thanks. :)

Like I said before, you're turning this whole Home button issue into something it's not. Some people will like it in the bookmarks toolbar, some will like where it's always been before they moved it. You're being pretty immature about this whole thing and it's more than annoying.

This is all because you can't stand the fact that someone doesn't agree with your OPINION. You can tell by all the posts you've made that you can't stand when someone says you're wrong. You have your opinion and others have theirs. Get over it. This is probably the dumbest argument I've seen on Neowin. Like I said before, the fact it was moved doesn't even bother me, I can just move it back to where I PREFER it to be because in my OPINION it makes more sense to keep it in the original place. Stop acting like the world will end because people don't agree with you.

I was just listening to a Windows Weekly Podcast with Paul Thurrott and supposedly the native Vista UI has been dropped from Firefox, is this for real? This would be so disappointing.

I doubt it... They already have alot of it done. They wouldn't make half the icons ect.. then just drop it. Mabye just a certain part of it that hasn't been done yet?

Here is the vista UI so far (I used the Usercrhome found here to get the icons to show)

    • Insane. This is as crazy as COVID back in 2020, where you could go back one year in time and tell them that everybody's gonna be locked in and now with memory that your old computer was going to be worth more tomorrow
