The ever-expanding commentary team of WWE SmackDown LIVE grew again this morning with the announcement that nine more announcers have been added to the team.

Starting next Tuesday, a total of 13 commentators will be crammed around the announce table to ensure that the in-ring action is called with a broad range of opinions, observations, squabbling, and talking over one another.

In addition to John “Bradshaw” Layfield, Mauro Ranallo, David Otunga and Tom Phillips, the commentary team will be bolstered with the addition of:

  • Renee Young, for a bubbly female presence
  • Taz, for suplex analysis and Brooklyn drawl
  • Todd Pettingill, for nostalgia
  • Booker T, because who else is going to say nonsensical jibberjabber?
  • Mike Tenay, to passionately holler “What is [name] doing in the SmackDown Zone?!
  • Byron Saxton, as the whipping boy
  • Funaki, to agree with people using “Indeeeeed.”
  • Tony Shiavone, to dismiss must-see matches with sardonic quips about butts in seats
  • Mike Adamle, just to punish us all

When he heard the news that SmackDown will have 13 commentators, former ECW commentator Joey Styles — an adept solo announcer — merely shook his head and muttered “Oh my god.”

For what it’s worth, Kurt Angle has been telling independent promoters he is returning to WWE in April, perhaps in time for WrestleMania 33 on April 2nd.

As of now, Angle is scheduled to wrestle Alberto Del Rio for the first time ever on February 12th in the UK for WCPW. Angle will then will face Cody Rhodes in their third match, but Angle has told promoters he’s not accepting indy dates past those two scheduled matches.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter adds there are all sorts of rumors going around in regards to Angle and his WWE return status. It should be noted that the above wouldn’t be the first time Angle has told promoters he’s returning to WWE, and with the way the rumor mill heats up for WrestleMania season, this should be taken as a rumor for now.

The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels have been advertised for the January 9th WWE RAW in New Orleans. A screenshot has been posted online of a sponsored Facebook ad from WWE. The last time The Undertaker was seen on WWE TV was on Smackdown and it was assumed that was the show he would be on. You can see the screenshot of the Facebook post below:

Well, that's about half of what ITV was hoping to get. They didn't really help things though by putting it on while Liverpool and Manchester City were playing, and at teatime on New Year's Eve, when a lot of people were probably already heading out to parties.

And here's an image of ITV's ratings around that time...

Ouch. I get the feeling it's going to remain a one-off special. For now, though, here it is up on the ITV Hub for 30 days (obviously, you've got to be in the UK to watch it, but I imagine a good VPN will work, too).

I thought it was alright, considering I knew they were going to dumb it down to appeal to their usual audience. Main criticisms: the annoying constant camera cuts just like WWE started doing recently, and the fact that they told the audience before the start of the taping to not shout "ONE FALL!", so instead, we get a near-silent - at times possibly edited out - crowd at the beginning of every match who decided to just go "Sh!" instead.

You know, I can't help but think during that segment of the Banks/Flair match - Sasha was saying over and over again "if you ###### up my hair I'm gonna ###### up" lol :D

Also, Happy New Year's everyone (sorry its a bit late since it's almost the 2nd here already but, had a bad day that I spent almost entirely in  bed. Kinda like 2016, yay? In any event, here's to a better year for all hopefully, and here's to some great wrestling coming up as well right lads? :)

Eh I don't see how someone being deemed incompetent for trial is a sad day for justice. For the family, sure its a travesty. But for Snuka etc, it would be even more of a travesty if he wasn't able to defend himself properly or didn't understand the proceedings at whatever junction it was for him. I'm not saying I think he's innocent mind you, just that if they found him incompetent, and that's kinda rare isn't it? - that's just the way it has to be now.

Yeah, I think they meant it's sad because we'll never know the truth now.

Potential Hall of Fame spoiler...

PWInsider.com is reporting Diamond Dallas Page is scheduled inducted into the 2017 Class of the WWE Hall of Fame.

WWE has not confirmed any names so far, and it’s unknown who might be the headliner of this year’s WWE Hall of Fame class. Tickets for the event go on sale next week, so it is possible we could hear an announcement around that time, possibly as soon as the January 9th episode of WWE RAW. Tickets will be on sale for the public on January 13th, with a pre-sale starting on the 11th.

http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/790351-first-inductee-for-the-2017-wwe-hall-of-fame-revealed-spoiler#6zSgdVpkkT3xsvDF.99 - If it's true, excellent pick; he definitely deserves it just for the fellow wrestlers' lives he's turned around, let alone his wrestling career.

    • If its the devs fault you would think Unreal would help M$ take full advantage of Unreal and work with them to fix the performance issues. Otherwise they are catching unwarranted bad press.
    • Thanks for the advice guys, I'll give my current GPU a clean and then run the benchmarks to see how similar it is. Hopefully a bit of a clean-out will help it last a bit longer.
    • Pretty sure those will still be in this game. The series' well-explored psychosis themes will return as well.
    • "performance issues? what performance issues?!"
    • Microsoft making much needed change to Windows 11, 10 Patch Tuesday security updates by Sayan Sen Recently, Microsoft delivered its latest Defender patches for Windows 11 ISOs. These definitions are released from time to time alongside the general security updates available during Patch Tuesday. Speaking of Defender, the company has now announced another important change that affects how security updates are delivered to enterprise devices running Windows. According to a recent announcement, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's endpoint detection and response (EDR) updates will no longer be bundled with the monthly Windows security updates or Patch Tuesdays. Instead the company is shifting delivery of these updates to Microsoft Update, bringing EDR servicing in line with several other Microsoft Defender components. If you recall, Microsoft last year moved PowerShell updates to Microsoft Update (MU) as well since it provides automatic updates for Microsoft products and services. Thus the move is intended to allow Microsoft to deliver EDR improvements and security enhancements independently of the OS's regular monthly update cycle; this should enable faster deployment of protection updates without requiring organizations to wait for the next Patch release. For those unfamiliar, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's EDR capabilities are designed to help organizations detect, investigate, and respond to advanced threats across managed devices. Keeping these components updated is critical for maintaining protection against evolving attack techniques. The rollout has already began for Windows 10 devices in late May 2026 (last month) and Microsoft says it will gradually expand support to Windows 11 and the remaining supported Windows versions over the coming months. The company expects deployment across Windows 10 and Windows 11 to be completed by fall 2026 or around Q3 of this year. Once the transition is complete, EDR updates will be delivered through Microsoft Update using KB5005292, provided the required prerequisite updates have already been installed. Microsoft is also introducing a new Defender Update Service as part of the change. Following installation of the first update, devices will automatically create a new directory located at %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Microsoft Defender\Defender Update. Microsoft notes that restarts may occasionally be necessary in case of "rare" failure scenarios. For most organizations, the tech giant says no action will be required as long as Microsoft Update is already permitted within their update management strategy. Admins who rely on manually deployed update packages, however, will need to adjust their processes to ensure the new Defender update package is included. Microsoft also recommends reviewing internal documentation and notifying helpdesk and security operations teams about the updated delivery mechanism to avoid confusion during the transition. As a prerequisite, the tech giant notes that systems must be running Sense version 10.8798.25857.1000 or later and have one of the following Windows updates (or later) installed: Win11 24H2 KB5062660 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win11 23H2 KB5062663 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win11 22H2 KB5062663 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win10 22H2 KB5062649 (2025-07 Cumulative Update Preview) Win10 1809 KB5063877 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2019 KB5063877 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2022 KB5063880 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) Server 2025 KB5063878 (2025-08 Cumulative Update) As always, organizations should verify that their update policies align with the new servicing approach before the broader rollout reaches all supported Windows platforms later this year. In case of major problems, the EDR update can be rolled back to the inbox version stored in %ProgramFiles%\\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) using: MpCmdRun.exe -RevertMde -Product Edr -ToVersion Inbox For those who have access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center portal, you can view the message here under ID MC1381119.
