Nice! Avast! is in the top 5 and beat NOD32, Kaspersky and Symantec!

I heard that the scanning engine in Avast! Home is the same as that in Professional, only thing is that Professional is licensed for more computers. Can anyone confirm that?

Professional also allows you to make use of that virus recovery database that it's always building...

ahaha yeah right, MS AV passed Kaspersky and others, wow this must be relly legit....ahahha

OMG do you really think this is true? if they really tested this, they made a really nice virus list lol

These are the overall grades and they tell a slightly different story:

Proactive detection and response times to new malware are just as important as detection of known malware, and this is where many AVs fail miserably. These days rootkit detection is also important.

Also no mention of scanning of packed files. Many of these AVs fail to detect viruses hidden in packed .exes.

tried Avast after using NOD32. I felt somewhat safer with Avast, but it was slowing down my net connection badly. I mean BADLY, I could not even stream youtube properly. I isolated the problem by ending all the AVG process using my task manager and things went back to normal. Uninstalled Avast without a moment of hesitation after that. Thank god it was free, I cannot imagine paying for a product that slows down my net.

Went back to NOD32. Not going to be tempted to switch again....

I bought ESET Smart Security when it first came out and I've never looked back.

I've never even heard of the OP's quoted website so I'm not too worried by the results.

I've always worked on the principle that an AV is only there as a backup in case common sense of the user fails.

I feel the same. I only surf trusted web sites and I do not look at porn or warez or cracks and what not. I used to years ago.

    • IBM are good at announcing stuff, but not at actually delivering it... How many decades ago did they announce quantum computers, and here we are in 2026, with CHINA delivering them, and IBM still talking...
    • It sounds like you’re trying to rewrite a narrative to align this layoff with your political beliefs. Games can be horrible, whatever backwards notions you have don’t change that bungie has problems, mostly with just bad games, and arrogance. When they pushed Microsoft to let them be independent they lost their way. They hired on a bunch of people and they couldn’t justify the employee count consistent with their revenue.
