Microsoft Office 14 ("Office 14" for short) is the working title for the next version of the Microsoft Office System productivity suite for Microsoft Windows. It entered development during 2006 while Microsoft was finishing work on Microsoft Office 12, which was released as the 2007 Microsoft Office System. The major version number 13 has been skipped presumably due to triskaidekaphobia. As of February 14, 2007, it is expected that Office 14 will ship in the first half of 2009 though this date has neither been confirmed nor denied by Microsoft.

Why did they skip Office 13? scared of the number 13?

Exactly that.

14 won't even appear on the Radar for at least 18 months, give them time. 2007 is still relatively new, and they're still making good money off it.

It will probably appear before that. I believe the current strategy is to RTM Office 14 around the same time they RTM Windows 7 so they can have a mega launch event for both products at the same time.

I think that nothing much is being said here on neowin, because the product isn't in beta yet.

For me Microsoft will have to do something amazing with Word and Powerpoint before I start caring.

Dude, not for another three years AT LEAST!

They should make an attempt to try and fix their current products first. Office 2008 for example

 Riiight. Actually I bet Office "14" will ship in about 12 to 18 months time.

Three years? LOL

Fix current office products? LOL

What's wrong with Office 2007?

It'll be interesting what they do for a UI in Office 14. Me personally I hate the Ribbon style. It's big and it's not easy to find what your looking for, especially for complex items, at first until you get a idea of where everything is. I personally like the compactness of menus and feel it's easier to find things in menus.

I know many people will disagree with this, but oh well..

Microsoft 13 was released in January for MAC, now Office 14 is rumored to be released in 2009 early 2010
Microsoft Tech Beta Support .... I work w/ some guys that deal w/ beta testers.. when they get information they tell me.

You might want to reconsider that source.

An update for Office 2008 just came out, v12.0.1.

Hence, Office 2008 is v12, exactly the same as Office 2007, only it's on the mac.

There is no Office 13 for both Windows and Mac as Microsoft skipped it for superstitious reasons. I'm not really in a hurry for a new Office as the current one is the best one there is. It will be pretty hard for Microsoft to top it but I'm confident with the Office team that they'll be able to do it.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
