More apps of Office are going to be Ribbon-ized. Outlook (the main app), SharePoint Designer, Publisher, Project, and Visio would probably be the next batch of apps that are to be Ribbon-ized in Office 14. Then the next version of Office (15) would have the rest of the suite Ribbon-ized, like InfoPath, OneNote, Accounting, Picture Manager, and Groove.

Pure spectulation though.

I was a tech beta tester for Office 2007, so I'd probably get chosen to do Office 14.

  • 4 weeks later...

Same here, I hope to be in the Beta to this time.

I do wonder though, what will they do more in 14? It's just like games.. In some years, we've seen a HUGE improvement in realism, it's almost lifelike now, those graphics, but, is there any room for improvement left? Sometimes, I'm scared that within 10 years the computer scene will be boring as hell, because they won't be able to improve perfect things anymore... Makes me sad...

Anyways, back on topic, I used Office 12 and only Office 12 ever since the first dogfood build leaked almost three years ago (wasn't it 2005?), and I've never had any other version on my pc ever since. I got an incredible -WOW- feeling, and I hope Microsoft will be able to do that again with the next version.

There is no Office 13 for both Windows and Mac as Microsoft skipped it for superstitious reasons.

I've heard claims that it is impossible to sell/market something with "13" in it in certain countries, thus giving a practical reason to skip it as well.

I think that nothing much is being said here on neowin, because the product isn't in beta yet.

For me Microsoft will have to do something amazing with Word and Powerpoint before I start caring.

 Riiight. Actually I bet Office "14" will ship in about 12 to 18 months time.

Three years? LOL

Fix current office products? LOL

What's wrong with Office 2007?

Nothings wrong with 2007, they where talking about 2008 which is Mac only, which was a train wreck in some ways in its RTM build and first update build... bad performance, problems, crashes, all kinda fun stuff

I hope we can do that with Windows too :)

But it's not like it was even going to be called "Office 13" in the first place. Microsoft didn't market 2007 as "Office 12" or Vista as "Windows 6." If there was a v13, it likely would have just been Office 2010 or something, as will likely be the case with Office 14.

Hmm this is funny. Except cleaning the interface a little and fixing all these stupid bugs, I don't really see what they can add in Office for Windows.

As for the Mac, MS should call me, I have a couple of ideas... I have rarely been THAT deceived of an MS product. Especially the lack of mathematical equations. It totally killed me x_x

Yeah. I totally agree with you.

    • After enabling it in about:config, customize, density, compact; the toolbar/address bar gets smaller vertically. I enabled Nova, I notice the tab bar/title bar is a bit larger vertically now? Everything always becomes a waste of space.
