+Byt Subscriber¹ Posted June 24, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 24, 2008 For me... Yes its enough. I have 2x1GB Corsair XMS2, and Windows XP SP2. Ive never used a computer with more memory than 2GB, so maybe i think 2GB is fine because i have no idea if more would be a noticeable improvement? Who knows. I use my PC for many many things, from encoding video, watching 720p / 1080p videos, playing games (Well only Counter Strike Source and TF2) all of which works perfectly well on my system :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/626227-for-those-of-you-with-2-gb-ram-do-you-feel-its-enough/page/4/#findComment-589506676 Share on other sites

portauthority
i find that really hard to believe. Considering I only use the tablet to take notes and surf the web, I find your comment hard to believe  Try it. I used to run Vista with 512MB RAM on my desktop and never noticed any performance problems until I started gaming Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/626227-for-those-of-you-with-2-gb-ram-do-you-feel-its-enough/page/4/#findComment-589507287 Share on other sites
Kreuger
2GB was enough for me but I burnt out one stick and am down to 1GB again. It really seems lackluster at times but I don't feel like putting much money into computers anymore, it never seems to make much of a difference. kazuyette
running with 2 gigs is cool and is - imo - the sweet spot where your rig runs at optimal capacity . I don't feel the need for more but I'll never be able to go back to less. Stalk3r
Enough for me, like kazuette I consider it a sweet spot (for XP at least which I'm of course running). include
Oh man, this is nuts...I remember just a couple of years ago I'd boast my 512 MB RAM capacity. I used to run Vista with 512MB RAM on my desktop and never noticed any performance problems until I started gaming I've only ever used vista on a PC with at least 2gb of ram. And I would never consider using one with less than that. It seems bad enough with 2gb. piehouserat
this is a pretty silly question imo, people will always want more than they need, basic economics. Titanium_NX
Personally for what I do, 2 Gigs isn't enough. I have 4 Gigs right now and even that still isn't enough but then again I do high end video editing and music creation. FizzyChickenBroth
2GB was enough when I shot 3mpx pictures in jpeg. Now that I'm editing 16bit RAWs from my Canon 5D, even 4 GB isn't enough. Those history states in Photoshop get pretty massive :p I'm constantly doing Edit > Purge Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/626227-for-those-of-you-with-2-gb-ram-do-you-feel-its-enough/page/4/#findComment-589524789 Share on other sites
darkmanx21
Yeah, it's enough by almost all standards*. The personal issue with me was, "Hey, if it's this cheap, I'll get 4 gigs." So that's what I did. :D My brother runs his with 2 gigs and I only notice a difference when we try to do like 30 things at once (seriously!), and that's not really that often. *exceptions apply. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/626227-for-those-of-you-with-2-gb-ram-do-you-feel-its-enough/page/4/#findComment-589524807 Share on other sites
Wakers
I do a lot of graphical stuff with Photoshop, I play a few games and play media files a lot - 2gb is fine - vista doesn't even use all of it with its superfetching, so i see no reason to buy bigger sticks, they'd just be a waste. linc63
8800 GTX has 768 mb ram , works great for games , however the 2 gb system is at 85% ( flight sim x accelerator on full ) . vista pc uses max 58% for general web duty . Ci7
4GB ram isn't even enough for me i feel it slow me down my next rig will probably have at least 8GB ram in case in next gen & tri-channel i will fit in 12Gb most likely Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/626227-for-those-of-you-with-2-gb-ram-do-you-feel-its-enough/page/4/#findComment-589660658 Share on other sites

Max Veteran Posted August 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 16, 2008 I have 2GB at the moment, which is fine, but my processor is a Northwood 3Ghz so upgrading anything now is pointless. My new rig will run Vista x64 and have 4GB RAM. It will be lasting me for a few years at least.
