Some Pre-fight chest puffing.... This should be a good tactical fight. I Like the match up.

Bernard Hopkins in LA!

With his entire team assembled at his training camp in Los Angeles, CA, light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins is settling into his intensive routine, supported by trainers Freddie Roach, Nazim Richardson and southpaw specialist John David Jackson. "This guy Calzaghe is a tough customer and his record shows that," said Hopkins. "But I don't think he and his father can actually 'out corner' my corner when it comes to expertise and preparation. I consider my crew the "execution squad", boxing's elite and a vital part to my success, which will be the case on April 19. Not only am I going to beat Joe Calzaghe, I'm going to punish him and Enzo Calzaghe will be forced to stop being the trainer and start being the father and save his son for another day, the same way Don Felix Trinidad saved Tito from me." Also joining the training trio is conditioning expert Mackie Shilstone.

Calzaghe: Hopkins is worried!

While Bernard Hopkins prepares with his 'Dream Team' of trainers (Freddie Roach, Nazim Richardson, John David Jackson and Mackie Shilstone) for his fight against Joe Calzaghe at the Planet Hollywood Ring on April 19 in Las Vegas, for Calzaghe it will be the same formula that has worked for his entire career: just father and son. "Does it worry me? Of course not," said Calzaghe of Hopkins' team. "It's the old clich?, it will be just be me and him in the ring on the night and the fact that he has all these people working with him tells you something: he's worried about me.....Poppy's employed all these people to try and figure out how to beat me but if he can't figure it out himself then he's got a problem. There are no big secrets with me, my fights are all out there on DVD and he can get hold of them. These are all just mind games from him.

When his ten game plans haven't worked and he's forced into going toe-to-toe in the trenches with me,[bhow is Freddie going to show him he has to use his heart to win? He can't. That's fighting instinct and I'm going to take him somewhere he has never been before. I'm telling Hopkins now, don't worry about my dad pulling me out because that situation won't come up. Just make sure you know which one of your 'Dream Team' will have the compassion to throw in the towel when you are getting seriously busted up. Come fight night it's just you and me in the ring Bernie, the rest of your team will be safely tucked away in the corner and then we will see how you cope.">[/b]>

Hopkins: Calzaghe is panicking![/b]>

Light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins has issued a release saying he has taken the news of Joe Calzaghe's rebuttal to his training team statement as a sure sign of panic.[b"This poor guy used up all the air in his boxing gym to spew a bunch of nonsense about nothing really. I said what I had to say in one breath. He knows what he is up against on April 19 and that's all that has to be said. All those words are just like his punches - nothing on them and no damage done.">[/b]>

Calzaghe says Hopkins is a dog!

Boxing's current longest-reigning world champion Joe Calzaghe has implied that longtime middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, whom he faces April 19 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas is a dog. "I'm going to get myself a dog. A St. Bernard to be exact," said Calzaghe in a statement released by his publicist. "And on April 19, I'm going to muzzle that St. Bernard and train him to obey all my commands. Every time I tell him to lay down, he's going to lay down. I guarantee you that dog will be leaving the ring with his tail between his legs. I'm going to prove, once and for all, Bernard Hopkins is all bark and no bite!"

I am not sure to go for here my heart says Joe because he is a British and a legendary champion but my mind says Hopkins because of his previous record but I am not sure if he still has it, so Joe! :p

  • 4 weeks later...

Joe is a busy fighter and the only problem I see for him is his lack of power in his punching. Hopkins is slick and has a great chin but may be too past his prime for this one. Nonetheless I need to throw my support in his corner since he has been one of my favorites for years. I'm not biased though and hats off to the best man.

Italian Dragon? I never knew that was his nickname and swear I've never heard them announce that before. Then again, in the US, we haven't gotten to see much of him. Looks like only the age advantage goes to Calzaghe too. 43 years old though, wow. Hopkins stays in great shape for his age.

Calzaghe a -260 favorite!

Joe Calzaghe is a clear favorite to defeat Bernard Hopkins when they collide Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Calzaghe is currently a -260 pick at the host casino Planet Hollywood, while Hopkins backers can get +220. On over/under prop (11.5 rounds), the "over" is -280, the "under" is +240. Round props range from 60/1 to 75/1

I expect it to get a little closer come Saturday.

i for the life of me will not understand why bhop came back... he has nothing to prove

Same two reasons they all come back..

Reason One, and not so major, they do not know what to do with themselves.

Reason Two, and very major, the Money.

Old Roy? Man that guy is arrogant and really does not possess the punching power to stop bhop. Look at what Tarver and Johnson did to Roy. Hopkins schooled Tarver though Tarver had excuses much like Roy had for Tarver.

There were no shoving matches at today's final press conference, but Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe continued to throw insults at one another before facing each other nose-to-nose in a lengthy face-off. Calzaghe promised to not only defeat Hopkins, but to stop him: "Beating him won't be good enough," said Calzaghe. "I want to knock him out." Hopkins reminded the Welsh champ that he has a winning record over southpaws and that Saturday will net him his third victory over a lefty. "I don't care what the critics are saying," said Hopkins. "I thrive on being the underdog." Stay tuned for a full report tonight on today's final presser!

not now. Even if he won, it wouldn't be a kill. Jones is not the same guy and you would probably agree if you followed boxing in the last 4 years. Jones problem. Hand picking opponents. When he stepped up to fight Johnson and Tarver he got owned. Not to mention Tarver beat him twice and Hopkins handled Tarver easily. Repeat myself much, I guess I have to with not so thought out comments.
