I watched him a few times and was not impressed. All he does is listen to what people say, and paraphrase it right back to them and they think he's God.

Example:

Guy: "Doctor Phil, when I stick this knife in my butthole, it hurts!"

Dr. Phil: "Well, I think the problem is that you're sticking a knife in your butthole. If you stop doing that, it will stop hurting."

Guy: "Doctor Phil you are a God! You've changed my life and perspective on reality!"

He's not a bad guy or anything, but he's really got a racket going since he hardly ever has to really say anything truly profound. Wish I had his job.

I mean, seriously, most of the people that go on there have a problem that's fairly obvious and has a fairly obvious solution. There was one couple where the husband had a habit of keeping every piece of paper he ever received, and there would be piles and piles all over the house. The wife hated the mess. You know what Doctor Phil told them? He told the guy that he has to keep the papers down to one room and one room only, and if any papers get outside that room, the wife has permission to throw them away. Because Doctor Phil said so (literally), it was okay to throw the papers away now. This whole concept was a miraculous revelation to them, I kid you not.

I suppose it's better than some of the other tripe they have on daytime television but lordy, are people actually that oblivious?
