I bought GTA4 and switched back to San Andreas

You did too? I couldn't stand how every time I put the disc in, it kept asking me if I was sure if I wanted to play. Or when I tried to press Start, a stupid dialogue box popped up saying Cancel or Allow. :p

You know as well as I do that Microsoft isn't gonna do that. No company does it unless the numbers are ridiculously high. Apple hasn't said much since Leopard's release (one weekend's sales only); it's actually surprising that Microsoft has bothered to release Vista sales numbers three times. I guess they're just trying to prove that it isn't the failure the media is saying it is.

Very possibly. Apple hates releasing any numbers, though I'm surprised they don't leak more often since they are quite easy to find internally if you know the right people.

Take this with a grain of salt since you don't know where I am getting these numbers from and I'm not going to offer that up but Leopard sales are ranging around the rough 70/30 range. 70% New Hardware Sales, 30% Retail Box / Family Pack / VL sales which is quite normal for Apple.

my hp laptop, which came with vista home premium went for repairs for what i thought was a hard drive problem.

well the laptop came back, but with xp home installed on it. I have never been so happy in my life.

but good for microsoft, i prefer windows over any other operating system, and I have tried osx and linux. but I prefer choice as to which windows to have on my laptop.

I would be absolutely livid if that happened to me, as well as making a rather large complaint to HP.

I dead sure they are losing more money due to piracy's than the profit they are having .

Maby theyll pull vista off the market...(but not off torrents sites prob)

and stop selling vista............. :woot:

I actually love vista I get better battery life in it

Wow.

If underlined is really true, that's pretty sad actually. Get out more I guess?

So what? These sales figures fail to disclose how many of those 140 million copies are still in use, especially since quite a few people went back to XP.

They do not disclose how many pirated copies as well, I bit it'll be much much more than 140 million :D :p

Vista = win (Y).

Heh. That's not to mention that the consumer doesn't even have to do anything except check the box to participate in the Customer Experience Program - it does all the reporting by itself.

And it's more than bug testing - it's usage tracking so they can see what things they need to focus on when they build newer versions. I'm willing to bet that 'ribbons' in Office 2007 came somewhat out of data from CEP, and that's been pretty well received by just about everyone.

-Spenser

You're correct. The development team said they studied thousands of sessions that were generated by the CEP, and that showed them that people couldn't find the features they were looking for. That's why they developed the Ribbon.

LOL, that's not what the point of that topic is.

it's like saying GTA4 sold 1,000,000 copies, but how many people actually play it...

answer is, Who cares. They bought it, they can do what they want with it

But lylesback2, you're forgetting that with GTA4, consumers bought the game voluntarily.

With Vista, most of those sales were from computers with Vista built in and while business customers can easily opt for XP, the average consumer has no choice but to get the computer pre-loaded with Vista, which translates into a sale of Vista, even if the consumer decided to downgrade to XP a few hours later. Henceforth, that explains why I would take the Vista sales claim with a grain of salt. Instead, one should focus on how many of those sales were from actually purchasing Vista, full version or upgrade, and that should be the key to determine how many consumers upgraded to Vista voluntarily without pirating the OS.

^^^MS isn't focusing on how many upgraded though - why would they? They get money from all those 'forced' to get it built in too. They care about where the money comes from, not how many people actually care. It might be interesting to you or others here on tech sites how many people upgraded, and specific breakdowns and whatnot, but that doesn't really matter at all to MS.

I think you'll find you're being ignorant of the situation if you think more people than not hate Vista because it's just not true.

I think you'll find you're being ignorant of the situation if you think more people than not hate Vista because it's just not true.

Actually, with all due respect, I find that comment ignorant as it is purely subjective without concrete user satisfaction data to base the statement on.

Now if Microsoft could come back and say out of the 140 million SHIPPED copies of Vista, that they have individually surveyed each user that received Vista on their computer (or the ones who upgraded) and received a 50+ prefers it to their previous OS review, then we could say more people like Vista than don't. :)

Until data like that is available, which I don't think it ever will be, it's hard to say how many people like Vista versus hate it.

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
