I want an 360, but MS has failed to provide a reliable, consistent piece of hardware with the 360, so I'll likely be heading to PS3 land instead.

What you mean failed? They are more reliable now with the new model and all old models where upgraded with 3 years warranty against RLOD.

Both my Playstation and Playstation2 had simliar problems with the disc drive after a year old and Sony made me pay for it to repair them.

I think it's really sad you are beating the same dead horse over and over.

I actually think he is right too, and I happen to really be enjoying my PS3 as of late, but what he says is more or less the truth. A lot more Triple A releases on the 360, no online presence at all yet except the PSN store (which even with the much needed redesign is not really anywhere near the league of Live), etc.

And people should know me by now, I cannot stand MS as a company (not really that fond of Sony FTR either). I do happen to be one of those in the camp that believes MS generally screwed their customers over because they rushed to market (which indeed was to beat Sony to the punch), so I definitely do not care one way or the other who is right and who is wrong and who is the best and who is not, I personally just call it like I see it, and right now the 360 is in the lead, no argument from me there. Just based on the amount of games standpoint and having their act together with an integrated online service, so yeah, he is more or less right.

Do I think his words are a direct result of the fact Sony has some very killer things on the way (LBP is enough on its own IMO)? I sure the hell do. It is how these companies work, and why they have a marketing department to begin with.

And I did not take the time yet to go through the 7 pages, and I hope for once I am wrong, but I can already tell this is the type of thread to get certain people into a frenzy so I really hope it has remained civil.

Well, I recently picked up a PS3 due to BluRay (otherwise would have picked a 360), so I know people are doing that. However, I do have to say that I'm pretty impressed with what Sony has done so far. True, I do want home to come out sometime in the near future, but its not really top on my priority list. I tire of the lame Console-Religions attacking each other online though. While I own a PS3 and personally find it to be a better overall experience for me, I'm not going to go attacking 360 owners because they don't share my personal point of view.

While it is true that anything (PR) coming from Microsoft comes with some rhetoric to it, they usually do stick to facts. You could replace Microsoft with Sony in that sentence, and it would still be true. I'd rather hear someone promote the merits of their console, not the shortcomings of another.

Well, off to play my WiiS3 :)

Yea, they're probably more reliable now then @ launch and the 3yr warranty helps, but I still have friends who've bought new consoles recently and experienced RROD, which means they still haven't dealt with the problem. I don't care if MS extends the warranty till the next generation comes out, its just not worth the hassle for me. My opinion of Sony products and quality isn't all that high either but the PS3 hasn't had nowhere near the failure rates of the 360.

Let me be clear that I'm no fanboy and I'll buy whatever console the games I want are on. If I knew the RROD issue was completely eliminated and could find a "new" unit without alot of hassle, then I'd buy one no problem. So is there an easy way to tell a new model from the old?

You got any proof of that to back up that claim? The Reliability on the console is alot better now that they have rolled out the Falcon chipset and i have yet to hear anything about them being unreliable as "you" say they are.

Let me be clear that I'm no fanboy and I'll buy whatever console the games I want are on. If I knew the RROD issue was completely eliminated and could find a "new" unit without alot of hassle, then I'd buy one no problem. So is there an easy way to tell a new model from the old?

The falcon chipset was rolled out last September sometime so nearly everywhere should have the "new" model.

Why are you making it a competition? I'm not discussing the PS2.

I have had 4 'old' 360's and 2 'newer' consoles and the 3rd newer console is on the way out now. I have many friends and collegues that have also had more than 1 new premium/elite console, plus taking a look on the xbox forums reveals at least a handful of new complaints daily.

Do you have proof to show that the problem has now gone away/got down to a reasonable percentage?

Well, the thread didn't concern the 360's RROD issues, but you are certainly discussing it - So i guess the PS2 issues are just as valid.

Fair enough. I didn't bring either up and was commenting only on the RROD because I have no expierience with faulty PS2's.

Where do you have them placed? What you mean on the way out?

I didn't say it went away either, I put 2 options as I wasn't sure what you were saying. There is no proof that its even been reduced.

Actually you can ask more, and gamers have done that. MS didn't hang around for the next console to be released to learn from their mistakes. They've acted now when it matters to consumers, repairing and offering 3 year warranty (plus refunds to all prior repairs) :)

What use is it, if only future customers get the nice treatment from Sony, but all the PS2 owners get left in the dark and out of pocket?

You've validated my concerns and the comments I made regarding the hardware reliability still stand. If the problem hasn't been completely taken care of, then apparently the horse isn't so dead afterall. When MS gets their house in order, I'll move in. Anyway, this is off topic so lets call it quits, shall we :)

That is just a stupid reply. Sorry, but it is. You learn from your mistakes. MS probably learnt from the mistakes Sony made, and Sony learnt from the mistakes they made. The PS2 was redesigned shortly after all the problems from all accounts.

Sure it was redesigned, around 15 times or more, and each including a crappy drive that breaks! Wonderful (N)

How is my reply "stupid" when it's all fact? MS did hang around, but not for an entire console generation.

Of course you're not going to get into the "arguement", and I bet it has nothing to do with every topic/complaint you've brought today being shot down.
