I'm wondering if Tony Stark is going to make ANOTHER appearance in Thor? lol. It'd be cool if he did because the way Iron Man and Hulk was done, they are revealing about the Avengers bit by bit.. maybe that little tease can end up to the big clash movie.

Branagh confirms 'Thor' rumours

Kenneth Branagh has confirmed that he will direct new comic book movie Thor, reports WENN.

The Valkyrie star, who was linked with the director's job earlier in the year, has reportedly now completed negotiations with Marvel.

"We're getting the story and visual effects together and all of that is very exciting," he said.

Thor tells the story of a disabled medical student whose alter ego is the Norse god of thunder Thor.

Earlier this month Daniel Craig denied rumours that he had been approached to play the title character. Other names linked to the role include Kevin McKidd and WWE wrestler Triple H.

Branagh's previous directing credits include Frankenstein, Hamlet and last year's Sleuth.

Thor is scheduled for release on June 10, 2010.

Will Alexander Skarsgard Be Kenneth Branagh's Thor?

zeeo5jfhl5z7kmrouh.jpg

Ever since it was first announced that Thor was coming to the big screen, fans have been debating endlessly over who would be a perfect Norse God of Thunder. We've heard Kevin McKidd's name tossed around before, but Latino Review has a new scoop today that seems quite solid. They say that Alexander Skarsg?rd, son of actor Stellan Skarsg?rd, has been meeting with Thor director Kenneth Branagh and that this isn't the first time they've heard his name brought up. While it's not official, they've gone to lengths to confirm that meetings have taken place, and if you look at that photo above, it might just make sense.

Here's where I'm conflicted. Paramount would never let Marvel make a Thor movie, currently slated for release on July 16th, 2010, without a big name actor somewhere in the cast. It's just common sense. So if Alexander Skarsg?rd gets the role as Thor, then they've got to fill up the supporting casting with big actors. But I think it's the other way around. I think we'll still maybe see a bigger name in the lead and that Skarsg?rd might actually be some supporting character like Thor's brother Loki instead. Just because he looks like a Norse God in real life doesn't mean he has to be Thor, he can still play a different Norse God.

Alexander Skarsg?rd has starred in "Generation Kill" and "True Blood" recently, so he's got some acting experience, but he's no big name actor by any means. He definitely has the looks, but I still believe Paramount won't let Marvel or Kenneth Branagh fill up the cast of Thor with a bunch of unknowns. As much as the fans would love to see them cast someone who has the looks more than anything, they just can't sell a big summer movie without any big names. We'll obviously find out soon enough how true this all is, but for now, I'm going to entertain the idea that Skarsg?rd is Thor.

He fits the role perfectly. But like the article says, he's a nobody.

My money is still on Brad Pitt.

there is a huge debate on the superherohype forums about this. thor will be cast as a well known actor, not a newb.

so far:

hulk= ed norton

iron man = downey jr.

nick fury= sam jackson

^ think about that line up so far. they want the avengers to be "well known celebs" in the roles. i can guarantee captain america "if" it gets off the ground will be a well known too, im thinking matt damon myself.

Captain America will get made you can be assured of that, just who is going to be in the role is the question.

Earlier today we told you about actor Alexander Skarsg?rd going out to lunch with Kenneth Branagh and how now he is in talks to play the lead character Thor. But what about Thor?s evil ass brother Loki? IESB is reporting that what their sources are telling them and that is Josh Hartnett is on a short list of actors to play the villain Loki.

I would have never thought of casting him in this role but you know what? I think it could work very well. The guy needs to be in a decent film, it?s not like hes a bad actor it?s just that he seems to have been forgotten. Hartnett has also never really played a villain before so this would be a first for him. IESB says:

Word is Josh and his camp are really interested because he has never played a villain before and after Heath Ledger?s Oscar win for the latest comic book villain, Hartnett is intrigued by the character.

I want Russell Crowe to beef up like he did for Gladiator and become Captain America. I honestly think if he got into shape he would be the perfect character for the role, and from his performance in Cinderella Man we know he can show some damn fine acting skills when he comes down to it.

Natalie Portman To Star in Thor?

Now here's an interesting bit of news to discuss. Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood ran a story today addressing the recent Thor casting rumors. She confirms that Kenneth Branagh is looking at Alexander Skarsgard, who we mentioned a few days ago, as well as at least four other unknown actors for the role of Thor. The problem is they need some big names to actually sell this as a big summer tentpole movie. Well, there's Josh Hartnett, who IESB scooped last week and will probably play the evil villain Loki. But then Finke also mentions Natalie Portman, who she says "is in the lead for the female lead." Could it be?!

First things first, since I'm not that familiar with the Thor universe, I had to figure out what lead female characters there would even be in a Thor movie. I asked around on Twitter and it seems most people are guessing she might play Sif, Thor's wife who is also a goddess in Asgard. As much as I love Portman, she doesn't exactly seem like the goddess type, but maybe I'm just jumping the gun. A few other people ventured a guess that she could also be playing Jane Foster, who is the girlfriend of Thor's modern world altar-ego Donald Blake, but we're not exactly sure how much Blake is even in this movie to begin with.

Getting back to the idea of Natalie Portman joining Thor, I'm all for it. Though I've got a bone to pick with Finke, because she says "so I guess Marvel wants a wooden performance." Are you kidding me!? She was only "wooden" in the Star Wars prequels because she was playing against Hayden Christensen, who is a piece of wood, and because Lucas ain't great at directing. Anyway, as much as I know Portman will probably end up being cast as Sif, I'd rather see her as Jane Foster. Either way, I'll be glad to see Portman in a high profile superhero movie, because she'll be in the news more often, and I always love seeing more of her.

FYI here's Sif

Thor has been cast!

EXCLUSIVE: Talk about spot-on casting. I've just learned that Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and director Kenneth Branagh have chosen their THOR -- and it's Chris Hemsworth, who can currently be seen as "George Kirk" in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot and also just snagged the lead in Red Dawn for MGM on Thursday. The gorgeous 25-year-old Australian is a virtual unknown here in the United States. But he played "Kim Hyde" on 171 episodes of Home and Away, the successful Oz television series chronicling the lives and loves of the residents of Summer Bay, a small coastal town in New South Wales, Australia. Hemsworth is repped by partner and co-founder William Ward's ROAR management and Eileen Feldman's agency. Marvel Studios has scheduled Thor for a June 17, 2011, release.

The way Chris Hemsworth got the part of Thor is one of those great Hollywood backstories that happens only once in a blue moon. Ward had found Chris during one of the manager's many scouting trips to Australia. Ward brought him to Los Angeles and really put him out there to casting directors and production executives. As for the major agencies, I hear CAA passed on the meeting, Endeavor took it but passed on repping him, and ICM was interested but dragged their feet. But Eileen Feldman got his appeal immediately.

Chris had read for the part of Thor but wasn't given a test because a casting director had nixed him early on. I'm told Chris' younger brother Liam (who's also a ROAR client) then tested for the role of Thor, but Marvel's Kevin Feige passed. Then, after a conversation with Ward ("You've got to reconsider Chris, he's your guy"), Feige decided to let Chris read again. And once Marvel put him on tape, it was "Oh my god". Branagh came to town last week and saw the Chris test and made the final casting decision today.

What a week for Chris since, on Thursday, he just got cast as the Red Dawn lead. Brother Liam, who's only been in Los Angeles for 3 weeks and doesn't even have an agent yet, just got cast the male lead in Last Song opposite Miley Cyrus in the Disney film based on the Nicholas Sparks novel. Both brothers live in William Ward's guest house. Unreal!

Thor's character, in a nutshell is the Viking god of thunder, who wears a winged helmet and speaks in King James Bible-style Olde English, as well as referring to himself in the third person as ?the Odinson.? He wields a magic hammer, and can ?fly? by throwing the hammer really hard and hanging on to it. Not only is here the movie Thor, but he'll also be interacting later with the likes of Iron Man and Hulk. Marvel tapping Kenneth Branagh was a smart move to elevate the pic since the English helmer has so much experience with Shakespearean battle movies and has the ability to balance action with convincingly delivered old English.

Daniel Craig reportedly turned down the lead role of Thor. Names reputedly in consideration were Rome?s Kevin McKidd and WWE champion Triple-H (who previously entered the Marvel universe as a villainous vampire in Blade: Trinity) and a host of little known others. (See my previous, Those Who Would Play Thor: Unknowns?) I'd heard Marvel wanted to finalize Thor this month. Its release schedule was recently pushed back from July 16, 2010, to now June 17, 2011

Well.. at least it's not any of the other mentioned actors like Matthew Mcconaughey etc. Matthew Mcconaughey was one of the worst picks if you ask me. I haven't seen Chris Hemsworth in any movie yet so I can't judge on if he's fit for the role or not. I'm glad that they've finally casted Thor though :)
