Townsend, Stevenson, & Asano Are Thor's Warrior's Three

Marvel's movie about the winged-helmet clad hero Thor is shaping up to be quite an intriguing flick. While I don't particularly have an invested interest in the character himself, I'm mystified by the assembly of talent from Kenneth Branagh directing his first comic book movie to up-and-comer Chris Hemsworth picking up the hammer as Thor and most recently Anthony Hopkins in negotiations to play Thor's father Odin. Now even more intrigue builds as Variety reports that Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano (Mongol) will play the Warrior's Three, a trio of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside Thor.

Warrior's Three is made up of Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg, who are original characters created by Marvel and not based on Norse mythology like most characters in the Thor series. This must mean those rumors about Robert De Niro and Jude Law joining Thor (as the Warrior's Three) weren't true after all. These three, however, are formidable alternatives. Of course we'll have to wait quite awhile to see the Warrior's Three in action anyway, as Branagh's Thor won't hit theaters until 2011. This also stars Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Stellan Skarsg?rd, and Samuel L. Jackson.

You actually want Sam L to play him?

Worst character casting in a looooooong time

Well I'm not a huge fan of Jackson's either, but he is a very high profile actor to be in these types of movies (sorta the same if DeNiro signed on) and adds alot of weight to it's profile imo.

I just like that they are going to keep continuity between these movies and keep Fury in and Jackson in as Fury.

what Nick Fury?, granted he had only a small role in Ironman he will have a bigger role in IM2

Not looking forward to it one bit :(

Not that I care much about Nick Fury to begin with, he's hardly a favourite of mine, but still terrible casting imo. Sam L is an awful actor, I can't think of one role I've liked him in.

As long as the rest of the movie is in line with the first (and improved obv), I'm happy.

Jackson is okay by me. He has only had like 2 minutes of screen time total though, so I don't know how good or bad he will be as Fury. By this time though he is established in 2 or 3 films though so might as well stick with him if possible and if he doesn't break the bank.

Natalie Portman actually disappoints me. I had her pegged as the perfect Wasp in the eventual Avengers movie. I figure when they do Avengers they will want at least 2 female members. Portman as Wasp and Scarlett as Black Widow would work out pretty well. This role is pretty minor for her and effectively keeps her from a bigger role in the Marvel universe.

Marvel's Joe Quesada and comics writer Brian Michael Bendis have been tweeting about the sets they visited for Marvel Studios' Thor. Quesada wrote:

I could listen to Branagh talk about Thor all day long. Cast is in place, sets are being built and screenplay is brilliant. Marveldom rules!

Bendis added the following in two tweets:

Broadcasting live from marvel west. Thor movie meeting with Ken branagh was over the top amazing. Visited the sets! I was in Odin's chamber!

U should get in line for the Thor movie today. Just saying.

Sounds like things are well underway. Thor, to be directed by Kenneth Branagh and opening May 20, 2011, stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgard, Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano.

Natalie Portman let slip that her friend Kat Dennings (Nick And Norah's Infinite Playlist) will be in this film with her ? and speculation is, she'll play Enchantress. [MTV via Cinematical]

Variety has confirmed that Kat Dennings? will be in Marvel?s Thor and the role she will be in the film and is reporting that she will play Darcy, who works with Natalie Portman?s character, Jane Foster.

MTV Splash Page recently spoke with Thor star Natalie Portman, who was promoting her newest film Brothers, and she revealed that Kat Dennings (Nick and Norah?s Infinite Playlist) had a role in Thor as well saying:

?Well I?m really excited,? Portman told MTV News. ?Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she?s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I?m looking forward to that.?

At the time Portman wouldn?t reveal the role but that has since been confirmed. Dennings is just a long line of people who have hit the Thor cast which includes the following;

Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jamie Alexander as Sif, Tom Wilkinson as Loki, and many more will bring this comic book adaptation to life. Kenneth Branagh is directing the film.

Renner As Hawkeye?

2i97401.jpgo9p8x4.jpg

Casting news for Kenneth Branagh's Thor has been hitting the internet news table hot and heavy for the past few weeks, but so far, it's all about the characters within Thor and Dr. Donald Blake's general circle of friends and foes. What about something to tie that into the planned (and already scheduled!) Avengers movie that's to follow?

In the latest Empire Magazine, actor Jeremy Renner was asked something during an interview to which his reply seemed to indicate that Marvel Studios is looking for an actor to appear, albeit briefly, as Hawkeye in Branagh's movie as a teaser for when all the Marvel heroes band together, similar to Samuel L. Jackson's cameo at the end of Iron Man.

"Hawkeye could be interesting," he told them. "They're going to send me some stuff on it, see what it is, but I think they're pretty awesome, trying to make superhero movies almost plausible and not just some fantasy thing."

Some may remember that when ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype spoke to Renner much earlier this year, he had mentioned he was interested in doing a movie based on a graphic novel, and that he was looking at taking a part in Sylvain White's The Losers. (Remember that?)

That never happened, and yeah, this basically sounds like the same thing, which means that he hasn't gotten or taken the part as of yet, but anyone who has seen Renner in Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker will realize that playing a hotshot soldier on an Iraq bomb squad and playing a hotshot superhero with mad skills with the bow and arrow is not that far removed. Here's hoping this is one role he takes and gets, because we'd love to see Renner butting heads with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.

Either way, Renner's comment does seem to point that we'll be seeing Hawkeye on the big screen very soon (and let's hope that Brian Michael Bendis doesn't suggest they kill him in one of those crazy Marvel movie production summit meetings we keep hearing about!)

Someone posted a ton of rumors about the plot of these upcoming Marvel movies. Thor apparently starts with six warriors in Asgard: Thor, Loki, the Warriors Three and Sif. Loki, Odin's adopted son, usurps the throne and Thor is cast down to Earth. Thor crashlands in the desert, where he's run over by a PhD cosmology student (Natalie Portman) and her Norwegian professor (Stellan Skarsgard), who are driving out to study a strange cloud in the cosmos through a telescope.

When they realize that Thor really is the Norse thunder god, Skarsgard, who grew up with Norse mythology, can't deal with it and he goes on a drinking binge.

The screenplay ends with a five-page battle, showcasing Thor's and Loki's contrasting fighting styles ? Thor is all about raw power, but Loki is all about the fluid grace and slipperiness. And the closing battle is the first thing they'll film.

But Loki survives the end of that movie, to become either the main villain in The Avengers, or one of the main villains. The Avengers opens with twenty minutes of Loki mind-controlling Bruce Banner and sending the Hulk on a murderous rampage, thus causing Captain America, Iron Man and Thor to come together.

Bear in mind, these are Internet rumors, so the usual wheelbarrow full of salt is indicated. [Comic Book Movie Fansites]

What version of Marvel's Norse God superhero are we going to see in the movie version of Thor? From out of nowhere, a rumor comes that it's not the one we've all been expecting. Spoilers?

Ain't It Cool offers this surprising tidbit:

[W]e contacted a 100% tested and solid source, someone intimately familiar with the movie Kenneth Branagh is making, and he or she tells AICN [Thor's comic book alter ego] Donald Blake is definitely NOT in the movie.

Stay tuned.

To which we say: Wait, what? Our first reaction is, that has to be wrong. For one thing, we know that Natalie Portman has been cast as Jane Foster, who's long been Donald Blake's love interest in the comics. For another, Variety has described the movie as

center[ing] on a partly disabled med student who discovers his Norse god alter ego, the hammer-swinging Thor.

If that doesn't describe Donald Blake - who, admittedly, was a partially disabled doctor, not a med student, in the original comics - then we have no idea what it's meant to describe. But if AICN's source isn't wrong, then are we to look forward to a movie Thor similar to, but not, either the regular or Ultimate universe Thors? Stay tuned, indeed.

Will Alter-Ego Donald Blake Be In Thor Or Not?? [Ain't It Cool]

Jeremy Renner, who might be playing Hawkeye, says we won't be seeing a traditional version of the archer's costume:

"It's going to be modernized, it's not going to be the guy with the big purple [mask], it's not going to be a guy in tights. It's going to be a guy in sunglasses and a vest. He's going to be more modernized and I'm gonna say 'a cooler-looking version' and not the big weird costume he had on. I don't think they're going that route."

    • Microsoft finally admits its default Windows 11 25H2, 24H2 action broke key legacy component by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. So far the company has acknowledged two known issues that have popped up after the release which include bugged-out Office apps as well as the Recycle Bin; though there could be more at play too. Speaking of bugs and issues, Microsoft seems to have finally acknowledged a problem that probably has been around for close to a year. That's because back in July of 2025 the company made a default change to the latest Windows 11 versions, wherein it switched to JScript9Legacy on Windows 11 24H2 and later releases. Hence following the release of version 25H2 in October 2025, JScript9Legacy also remained default-enabled. As a result there has been a compatibility issue ever since then. For those wondering, by switching to JScript9Legacy Microsoft intended to improve the security of modern Windows PCs by reducing vulnerabilities tied to legacy scripting like cross-site scripting (XSS), among others. XSS exploits can allow cyber-attackers to attach malicious code onto legitimate websites and use them to execute the code when a potential victim loads such a website. Hence the new JScript9Legacy engine enforced stricter execution policies and improved object handling, which should help mitigate such attacks. Microsoft today has published a new support article detailing the problem. Neowin spotted it while browsing. The company says that JScript global definitions and execution context may fail to persist across scripts, potentially breaking older dependent apps and web-based components that relied on this legacy behavior. In the article Microsoft has confirmed that the issue stems from its move away from the older jscript9.dll engine in favor of jscript9legacy.dll. As mentioned above, while the newer engine was designed to address vulnerabilities and strengthen security it also changes how JScript handles execution context. As a result functions and definitions loaded by one script could no longer remain available to subsequent scripts once execution ended. The company notes that some applications worked correctly on earlier Windows versions because the older JScript engine automatically retained global definitions and execution state between scripts. Under the newer model though that behavior is disabled by default causing certain legacy workloads and polyfill-dependent scripts to fail. Microsoft says it addressed the problem via the KB5077241 update though the fix had not been enabled automatically in the following updates. As such admins must explicitly turn on persistent JScript execution context using a Registry setting that the tech giant shared today. The configuration can be applied to individual processes or system-wide through the FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE registry key. The steps have been outlined below: Run the following command to create the feature control registry key: reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_ENABLE_PERSISTENCE" Under this key, create a new DWORD (32-bit) value. Configure the value as follows: To enable persistence for specific processes only: Set the value to 1 for each target process name. To enable persistence for all processes: Add * as the key name and set its value to 1. You can find the official support article here on Microsoft's website.
