Channing Tatum Wants ?Captain America? Role ? But Thinks Will Smith Would Be ?Perfect?

Though his name is out of the running for Marvel?s ?Thor? adaptation, Channing Tatum wouldn?t mind taking a shot at becoming Steve Rogers ? provided Will Smith doesn?t want the role.

After last year?s ?Stop Loss?, three of Tatum?s next major roles feature him in various iterations of the US Military, including ?Dear John?, ?G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra? and ?Pinkville?. Could Tatum?s public perception as the homegrown American soldier extend to the Marvel Universe in Joe Johnston?s ?The First Avenger: Captain America??

?I would love to talk about it,? Tatum told MTV News, admitting that a few people have told him to go after the role, though nothing solid has happened on that front.

What?s holding him back, however, is last year?s internet rumor that Will Smith would don the red, white and blue, something that Smith has categorically denied. Tatum?s still not convinced that Smith isn?t an inspired choice.

?When I?d heard that Will Smith was [interested], I?m just like, ?God, yeah. That?s who should play it,?? said Tatum. ?It would be a different Captain America than we all know in the comic, but it?s perfect.?

Of course, Smith isn?t the only name that has been bandied about around chatrooms and message boards. Rumored contender Matthew McConaughey has also stated that he?s not in the running while John Cena has recently provided his own self-endorsement.

The film, still slated for summer of 2011, was recently pushed back two months to a July 22nd release. Meanwhile, Joe Johnston remains as director on the project with a script currently in development by ?Narnia? writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

I like Will Smith but **** him lol. Captain America needs to be white. Call me racist if you want but somethings shouldn't be changed. They might as well cast a black guy as Hitler. While I know the original Nick Fury was white, there's no comic book with a black Captain America.

/waits to be proved wrong.

Waiting for Keifer Sutherland to announce he is Captain America.

Isnt keifer kinda short for CA?

it is hard to choose an actor for CA role... i cant even think of one. need someone with rigid looking.

and please no Will Smith...

I don't want will smith to do this (and I doubt he will) but Black Captain America

I have to agree with everyone about Will Smith, I would love for it to go to some unknown who can make the role his own.

Word. Same kinda counts for the white Captain America imo.

So after reading the quote from MTV; will this movie be about Isaiah Bradley or both about him and Steve Rogers? I kinda think it's going to be about Isaiah Bradley since he wants Will Smith to play Captain America. If Will Smith is going to play Steve Rogers, then that's pretty weird.

Matthew McConaughey Warming Up To ?Captain America? Role?

Though he hasn?t seen a script yet, Matthew McConaughey seems to have changed his tune regarding a potential role in the ?Captain America? film.

Late last year, McConaughey didn?t seem to know who ?Captain America? was, much less have an interest in playing him, but repeated mentions of his name with that of the patriotic leader of The Avengers may have sent the ?Ghosts of Girlfriends Past? star to the back-issue bin.

?It sounds fun,? McConaughey told MTV News, admitting that, so far, no script has come his way.

McConaughey has long been a fan-favorite choice for the role and his name is now being tossed around with other rumored-contenders Channing Tatum and John Cena.

One person fully behind McConaughey as Cap is his ?Girlfriends Past? co-star (and former ?Elektra? and ?Daredevil? star) Jennifer Garner.

?You would be a great Captain America,? Garner told McConaughey during a recent press event. ?You could wear a cape and tights and little pointy shoes.?

Captain America in a cape? Jennifer may have to hit that back-issue bin herself.

Now planned for a July 22, 2011 release (really, Marvel, you couldn?t shoot for ?Captain America? on July 4th?), the film is still being helmed by ?Rocketeer? director Joe Johnston for release under the title ?The First Avenger: Captain America? and is obviously set to position the character as a major player in the following summer?s ?Avengers? mega-film.

I remember talks about him playing the role when they first announced it. While I don't think he'd be horrible I'd rather a no name play the role and make it their own. The release date is funny though, they should definitely release it on the 4th and capitalize on that patriotism. Although if it does come out on July 4th we know Will Smith is playing him, guy dominates every July 4th. Can't remember how many of his movies opened on that day and did exceptionally well.

The First Avenger: Captain America: The film officially goes into preproduction in October 2009, with production scheduled to begin on June 28th 2010. The movie will probably feature more international locations and actors than any other Marvel movie. In casting the Captain, Feige says that ?international appeal? is something that Marvel will have to take into account, but admits that ?there are only a handful of stars that mean anything here much less overseas.? Later when someone brought up Will Smith, Feige responded, ?I think Will Smith is probably one of those handful of international stars.? Also, the rumored ?Truth? storyline from the comics isn?t likely to be incorporated into The First Avenger movie, but possibly in future sequels. Will Smith as Captain America? I Slash Film(Slash Film)

Booooo

If it was set in modern time, I'd be more inclined for it, but isn't this set in the past? I'm not to keen on Will Smith playing that role. But they comics did it, so I supppose its alright. I was looking forward to this but the more I hear the more I'd rather see Thor.

I will say it, because I don't feel it's a wrong thing to say...

Get ready...

Will Smith... He's, um, sorta, well, uh, prepare yourself.. Well he's black! GASP! Had you not noticed?

And Captain America? Go pick any Captain America comic at random. Or hey, go here (http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=captain%20america). Notice anything? HE'S NOT BLACK!

I am all for the idea that a character in a film, unless it's determined, can be played by anyone of any colour. But Captain America is a long standing character who is white.

See, here's where you are wrong. The very first Captain America was black. That's why I have no clue why everyone is against Will Smith playing Captain America.

Also, I read loads of Captain America comics so you dont have to tell me about if he's white or not ;)

This is just like the Wolverine thread. They thought it was wrong that teenage Wolverine had claws because they thought Weapon X gave him the claws. But they never actually read any of the origin comics. Same goes here. If you actually had read the comics, you'd known about Isaiah Bradley :)

Then you should know that Isaiah Bradley came after Rogers (storyline and about 60 years after in real time). Bradley was an attempt to recreate the super soldier formula already used on Rogers. Regardless they are casting Rogers as Captain America not Bradley and hence Will Smith is not as well suited to the role as other actors. Rogers has the much longer history as Capt America. It would be silly to have Bradley as Captain America. Captain America's roots in WWII also means a white man is more plausible, let's face it society was not what it is today.

Besides I want Smith as Black Panther. Pair him on screen with Halle Berry's Storm and it would be wonderful.

Then I'm wrong with the names but I'm 100% positive that the first Captain America was a black guy. Smith as Black Panther would be nice indeed. If only they where planning a movie based on him.

    • Google begins rolling out its post-Epic Play Store billing model next week by Karthik Mudaliar Google has confirmed that its redesigned Play Store billing and fee structure will take effect on June 30, 2026, in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Economic Area. The changes will let eligible developers offer their own payment systems or send users to an external website for purchases, while separating Google’s platform service fee from the cost of using Google Play Billing. The rollout puts concrete dates and detailed rate cards behind the broader Android policy overhaul Google announced in March. That announcement followed a proposed settlement with Epic Games intended to resolve their long-running disputes over app distribution and payments, although the U.S. portion of the agreement still requires court approval. Under the new billing choice program, developers selling digital content or services can display an alternative payment option alongside Google Play Billing. They may also direct users to their own websites to complete a purchase. Developers can use Google’s standard payment-choice screen or design one that complies with the company’s user-interface rules. Choosing another payment processor does not eliminate Google’s cut altogether. The company will continue charging a service fee for transactions associated with apps distributed through Google Play, regardless of whether payment is handled by Google, an alternative provider, or a developer’s website. Google argues that this fee covers the value and infrastructure provided by Android and the Play Store. For developers earning up to $1 million annually, the service fee will generally be 10 percent. That rate also applies to auto-renewing subscriptions. When Google Play Billing is used in the U.S., U.K., or EEA, Google will add a separate 5 percent billing fee, and developers processing payments elsewhere will not pay that additional charge. This means Google’s familiar flat 30 percent commission is disappearing, but developers will not necessarily see a dramatic reduction on every transaction. An in-app purchase from an existing user processed through Google Play Billing can still reach a combined 30 percent. The biggest savings are likely to come from subscriptions, smaller developers covered by the $1 million tier, and companies able to move customers to their own payment infrastructure. Google is also offering lower rates through its Apps Experience and revamped Games Level Up programs. Apps and games that satisfy the company’s requirements can qualify for 15 percent service fees on new-install transactions and 20 percent on existing-install transactions. The criteria include performance and reliability standards, support for additional Android device categories, and selected platform features. Those program rates are scheduled to become available in the initial markets and Australia on September 30. For consumers, the immediate effect will depend on whether developers adopt alternative payments and pass any savings on through lower prices. For developers, however, June 30 begins a more flexible but considerably more complicated Play Store economy in which distribution, billing, install dates, revenue thresholds, and program participation can each affect Google’s final cut. Google is also separately developing a Registered App Stores program designed to simplify the installation of qualifying third-party stores. That initiative is expected to arrive with a major Android release later in 2026 and will launch outside the U.S. first. Google says the rest of the world will receive the changes by September 30, 2027, although billing rates for markets outside the US, UK, and EEA have not yet been announced.
