Captain America: The First Avenger (July 2011)

The amount of times that film went back and filmed and the constant editing I didn't have high hopes sadly but for cappy I do

wolfman was a great flick rappy but yes he did walk in after most of the film was shot, so it's not entirely his fault for some bad reviews.

  • 2 weeks later...

"The First Avenger: Captain America" director Joe Johnston spoke about casting Steve Rogers earlier this month, saying that a casting decision was "weeks away." Well, weeks have passed, February is almost over and it appears the role has been narrowed down to five.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the five front-runners for the role of Captain America are Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl"), John Krasinski ("The Office"), Scott Porter ("Friday Night Lights"), Mike Vogel ("Cloverfield") and Michael Cassidy ("Smallville").

All five actors have reportedly agreed to test deals with Johnston and Marvel Studios. Garrett Hedlund ("Tron Legacy") was allegedly sought for the part, but the actor has not reached a deal to test for the role. Additionally, Deadline reports that whoever lands Captain America must sign for nine other options, including potential sequels to "The First Avenger."

Fans are sure to have their favorites and least favorites amongst the contenders listed, but there is at least one aspect of the report that would be quite troubling if true. Deadline reports that Johnston himself briefly walked away from "Captain America" following a salary dispute. Although the situation was resolved, it's still discouraging to hear about an internal conflict over budget this early on in the production process.

Regardless of the reported woes, it does appear that Marvel and Johnston are getting ready to pull the trigger on their choice for Captain America. At this point, it's simply a matter of waiting to find out who gets to wield the shield.

interesting choices there

No Chris Pine anymore? That's to bad as he was a perfect fit imo.

If John Krasinski is getting the role then I'd think that I'm watching a comedy instead of a super hero flick. Both Scott Porter and Mike Vogel have to looks to play Captain America though I wouldn't know about their acting skills. Though with John Krasinski in the list of actors, I'm asking myself if they're even taking the role serious.

Has The Wolfman done what Batroc The Leaper, Baron Zemo and even Iron Man couldn't manage? New rumors are claiming that the poor box office performance of director Joe Johnston's werewolf movie may have resulted in Cap's (temporary?) demise.

Movie blog Remington's Cinema is claiming that anonymous sources from the set of John Landis' Burke and Hare are saying that Marvel/Disney have postponed the Cap project from its announced 2011 release following the flop of Johnston's The Werewolf, teasing that the decision may allow the studio to switch directors.

How this squares with recent rumors about the movie finally screen testing potential Caps is unclear, although it's possible that any possible postponement may also allow Marvel more time to find the right celluloid sentinel of liberty. Or maybe they just want to disabuse Johnston of his "Cap can sing and dance during WWII" idea...

Joe Johnston's Captain America: Shelved? [Remington's Cinema]

The report that Johnston was gone originated at The Moving Image, based on comments made by someone working on Burke and Hare. Tenuous? You bet. The best response to the story came from Devin at CHUD, who broke down possible reasons that the story might have merit, and more that suggested it did not.

Marvel has since contacted Devin to issue a statement about the film. He subsequently writes:

I just heard back from some folks at Marvel at [sic] they categorically, up and down, completely and without hesitation deny that there is any delay on The First Avenger: Captain America or that the production is any trouble. Everything is moving forward right now, they tell me.

Which is exactly what you?d expect the studio to say regardless of the actual situation, but there?s no reason to give credence to the idea that Johnston is gone and the film has stalled. You may not like who Marvel is looking at in the primary casting search, but they are casting the movie and moving forward. You may not like Johnston after seeing The Wolfman, but tough. (I?m with you on both counts, but still want to see Marvel and Johnston pull off a period superhero war movie, so am sticking with a general sense of optimism for now.)

Hm... I like the direction of the movie to be honest (It kind of HAS to be an origin movie), but so far I'm not really wowed by any of the people rumored for the role... I hope they do a good job with it. If everything works out the way they plan for the Avengers movie, it will really be amazing...

Just can't see that these young guys have the chops to lead the Avengers :(

Let's hope they change theiir minds and start casting a little older. I've said Matthew McConnaughy before, but now would really be happy with someone like Mark Valley from Human Target and Fringe - he has the look, can act, probably won't cost too much and has had actual military experience!!

I never thought of him actually, he would be quite awesome

TBH I hadn't either - I had seen his name on the Aint It Cool forums but had no idea who he was. I started watching Human Target today and within 5 seconds thought "Oooh he'd be great as Cap" so when I saw his name in the credits it was an "oh that's who he is" moment! :)

+1

Though that werewolf isn't doing good doesn't mean that captain america will suck, though IMO it does give a general idea :s

WE WANT CHRIS PINE!

the wolfman remake was awesome IMO. i don't think they will change directors or postpone it right now. they have to keep the fanboys happy and keep the avengers on course. i just hope they cast the right guy and stick with him.

I agree. That would be a good choice in casting... The best suggestion I've seen so far actually.

Yeah, I've heard some mixed things on the Wolfman movie. Was it really scary? A friend wanted me to see it with him, so I'm kind of curious.

As for the success of that movie derailing Avengers, that would be rather silly I think. They're two VERY different types of films... Plus, Marvel has a LOT riding on the Avengers movie... The build up has been amazing... So, on one hand it would be really bad to have to push it back, but horrible if it failed...

A casting call gives a synopsis of this film, which is pretty much what you'd expect ? but at least it doesn't mention anything about him being a USO entertainer:

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment... Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by 'vita-rays.' Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

    • I’m still using an Xbox One S, so time for an upgrade to play this but as much as I hate Sony, I think I’ll get the ps5 pro
    • I bought this game. Played it for an hour, and then got a refund from Steam. Not a fun game at all.
