Captain America: The First Avenger (July 2011)

Marvel Studios executive Kevin Feige explains they chose to shoot the movie in Europe - causing Manchester and Liverpool to double for 1940s New York City - because that's where the majority of the movie takes place anyway, once the action shifts to World War II. He also discussed the look of the Red Skull, as played by Hugo Weaving:

Hugo Weaving has been in the Red Skull effect, in costume for a couple of weeks now and it's a hell of a lot of fun. We gave people a little taste in San Diego about what his character will look like but now that we've started to work with the actual skull it's going to be a lot of fun and a rather frightening villain.

A new crop of gloriously patriotic pictures have emerged from Captain America: The First Avenger set showing Steve Rogers, his enemies, and a lot of sexy-time period whips.

Marvel Studios/Paramount Pictures have released two cool ass Comic-Con posters, a Captain America: The First Avenger poster and a Thor poster as well.

These posters come out a day before the big event in San Diego kicks in to gear for the big weekend.

yeah something about those pictures rings steam punk to me, I will still say I am not looking forward to this movie but I want to be surprised...waiting for Red Skull pictures!

Well, it has to be better than the two made-for-tv movies of the 1970s as well as the movie that came out in 1990. Although this will be the 3rd movie to hit the silver screen. Anyways, two more pictures:

If you haven't spotted it yet, one of the signs adjacent to "Vernon Photos" is the "Excelsior Cigar Shop". And as many of you die-hard fans know, Stan Lee (Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the X-Men.) is known for his catchphrase, "Excelsior!", which he used at the end of every "Bullpen Bulletins" column for the comic publisher.

Stan explained a while ago in uncertainty, the lack of time in his busy schedule to join the Captain America crew in England. And seemed sure that parts of filming would take place in the US, where he'll get the chance to shoot his cameo. So the shop sign could simply be a reference to the legend.

Anyhow, the big-budget adaption of Captain America: The First Avenger, which actor Dominic Cooper(Howard Stark) tells ET Canada he could get use to, in theaters July 22, next year.

Last week I joined a select group of reporters and blogger-type folks on a secret mission: visit the "Captain America: The First Avenger" movie set in England. To say it was an amazing experience would be an understatement.

I swore an oath on Cap's shield that I wouldn't reveal too much about my visit too soon, so I beg you merry Marvelites to take my tantalizing teases about all the thrilling things I saw and experienced in stride--all will be revealed in time!

Some choice tidbits from my visit to the Cap set:

* I ate lunch with Hydra soldiers.

* I learned who and what has influenced star Chris Evans in his portrayal of Steve Rogers aka Captain America in the film.

* I talked with Hugo Weaving who plays Red Skull/Johann Shmidt in the film while he was in full Red Skull makeup--AND IT WAS AWESOME!

* I watched director Joe Johnston film a scene, experiencing the magic of the movies up close. All I can say is "wow."

* I had my mind blown several times by visiting the art department, the costume department and the prosthetics workshop as well as seeing many of the props in the movie.

* I posed with one of the actual Captain America shields used in the film--as you can see in the photo above.

SpiderMedia have gotten their hands on more details about the easter eggs hidden within the special features on the Iron Man 2 DVD and blu-ray which will be released in the US on September 28th and in the UK on October 25th.

Apparently, the Red Skull is interested in finding the Terrasect. Little is known about this mysterious object although it appears that Howard Stark has notes on the object in his diary.

A prototype of Captain America's shield is shown and referred to as a "Defense Armament Prototype for possible Infantry deployment".

The Daily Mail have been allowed on the set of Captain America to get some great quality photos of the authentic looking WWII set including a look at the aftermath of the explosion we saw being filmed earlier today! Most intriguing though is the fact that they mention: "Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper and Samuel L Jackson are 'oop north' on location for the blockbuster." If this set is indeed where "Project: Rebirth" is taking place, it would certainly make sense that those three actors would be there!

Here?s your idle question of the day: are these pics of a sub from the set of Captain America: The First Avenger depicting a bit of tech that will be in use by the good guys, or is it a deadly device created by Hydra? Based on the design, I?d guess the latter. (It looks rather like the Hydra motorcycles we saw in photos a few weeks back.)

The Liverpool Post has the images, but only tells that they were snapped at a dock dressed out to look like it is located in 1940s New York.

Oooh Rappy - don't rile the beast!! It's The Liverpool DAILY Post and the only reason I mention it is because the wife works as a sub there! Funnily enough she was going to for one of the extra parts but they were filming for the last 2 weeks and we've been on holiday in Cornwall. Typical innit? You wait for ages for something cool like this to happen and when it does you're at the other end of the country!! :D

    • My comment was intended to be humorous. I believe scientists already knew it since they comprehend relatively. Maybe I'm assuming that.
    • Surprise Execs are dumb. I hope the rehired engineers said were not coming back until we get 2x our salary.
