Captain America: The First Avenger (July 2011)

It's down to 3!

Now there?s a slight update: according to IESB, the shortlist is now only three names: Chris Evans (Sunshine, The Fantastic Four); Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, Stop-Loss) and Sebastian Stan (Gossip Girl). I?ve stumped for Evans before, but am a bit surprised that he?s still on the list, because of that Fantastic Four association. But that?s no big deal in the long run, as the Marvel Studios film universe has nothing to do with the Fox version of Marvel?s characters. (Confusing!) Evans is easily the best choice here.

And while we?re on the subject, fancy comic artist/painter Alex Ross said today that the only person to play Cap should be Jon Hamm, because, ?Captain America is supposed to be the patriarch of the Marvel universe. To get a guy in his early to mid-20s is only thinking about where the character began, not what he ultimately needs to become.?

^^ this dude knows whats right! ^^

Meh all those are Meh... I wonder why they haven't thought of Robert Pattinson I mean with teh spidey reboot and everything, they could have Robert as captain america and PeterParker a familiar face /troll

Sorry I just don't agree with any of those 3... But we shall see how i goes... :)

That guy rules. Jon Hamm for cappy!! wooo

could the search be over!

Chris Evans offered role of Captain America (exclusive)

Chris Evans is one step closer to the role of Captain America.

Sources tell us the actor, who once donned superhero garb in two "Fantastic Four" movies, has been offered the role of Captain America.

Marvel has not confirmed the development and CAA, which reps the actor, declined to comment.

Evans' offer would include starring in up to three "America" movies plus "The Avengers" movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies. While an offer to star in "America" may seem like something you don't have to mull over too long, one possible complication is that Evans is committed to co-starring in the Anna Faris romantic comedy "What's Your Number?" Both are scheduled to shoot this summer.

The role of Captain America and his alter ego Steve Rogers has been one of the most heavily scrutinized parts by the industry, the media and the comic book fandom in recent memory.

Evans wasn?t in the initial round of actors being considered, which for the most part leaned to the newcomer side. Michael Cassidy, Patrick Flueger, Scott Porter, Wilson Blethel and Mike Vogel, on top of John Krasinski and Chace Crawford, were those testing and reading. Garrett Hedlund was also someone Marvel was interested in.

Evans, who did not screen test, already has a relationship with Marvel, having starred as Johnny Storm, the fire-covered superhero in the two ?Fantastic Four? movies that Fox released in 2005 and 2007. There is some question whether fans would be accepting of an actor who already played a Marvel superhero just a few years ago, but given that the movies were not well embraced, with no one faulting the actors, Evans might have a clean slate with moviegoers.

Joe Johnston is directing ?America,? which shoots in England.

Evans, also repped by 3 Arts Entertainment, has the DC Comics adaptation ?The Losers? in the can and also appears in ?Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,? Edgar Wright?s adaptation of the popular Oni Press graphic novel series.

Oh ffs.. go shoot your romantic comedy, get the **** away from my captain america

Just cast him twice, let them have their skinny little bitch nancy boy at the start then somewhere switch to Jon Hamm. That guys comments just get me excited at the possibility. If they cast Hamm as cappy I'd stop worrying about this movie. I didn't know what to expect with Iron Man, but as soon as I heard RDJ was Stark, I didn't care anymore, I knew it was going to be amazing :)

Hamm's the only captain america in my mind, if they don't cast him, its a mistake. I wonder what Marvel thinks of all this, you'd think they'd have a problem with such an iconic figure being cast so poorly.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!

Chris Evans has been offered the role of Captain America, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

TheWrap spoke to the actor's representation at CAA who refused to confirm or deny the story, as did Marvel.

Evans is best known for playing The Human Torch in "Fantastic Four" and its sequel.

I wrote about Marvel's casting crisis surrounding the 'Captain America' movie earlier this week, and Evans was one of the candidates I endorsed for the ro ?

yep I am officially over Cappy

Thor and Iron Man 2 is where its at now (and Green Lantern and Green Hornet)

Yes, Marvel Studios made Chris Evans an offer to play Captain America. But I hear that the testing process will continue because the actor is conflicted about jumping into another superhero role, after playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch in two Fantastic Four installments. This could certainly be bargaining table posturing, because Marvel drives the toughest deals in town. But other actors have turned away from big superhero movie roles. They include Heath Ledger, who turned down Spider-Man because he didn't want to be typecast or sign for three movies. (He later came back for an Oscar-winning turn as The Joker in The Dark Knight). Josh Hartnett turned down the chance to play Superman several years ago for similar reasons, even though the 3-picture pact could have paid him nearly $100 million. Marvel is offering far less, and asking for 9 options.

Chris Evans Accepts the Shield!

Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America.

Sources tell us the actor has not only accepted Marvel's offer, first detailed on Friday, but that the dealmaking moved so fast it's now all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

Marvel has would not comment on the development, and CAA, which reps the actor, declined comment.

Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios' production last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in Fox's "Fantastic Four" movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part?

Evans took a few days to think it over, and once he decided he was willing to wield the shield, negotiations moved quickly over the weekend.

The obvious tagline: from shortlist to short pants.

A couple weeks ago, Sebastian Stan was on the rumored list of actors in whom Marvel was interested for the role of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. That role went to Chris Evans, but Stan must have made some impression on Marvel. (Or he?s got a great agent.) The actor has been cast as Bucky, who is essentially this story?s version of Robin.

Deadline reports that Stan is about to sign to play the character, described as ?the sidekick who fights side by side with the shield-throwing superhero.? I hadn?t thought much about Bucky being in the movie, though Kevin Feige said a year ago that the character?s appearance was ?a safe bet.? But with the more ?realistic? take on the story we?ve been hearing in the last few months I?d harbored some assumptions that the character wouldn?t appear. There hasn?t been any real confirmation one way or the other beyond Feige?s broad statement.

As with young sidekick characters, who are so easy to kill off, more than one Bucky has graced comic pages over the years. The original, James Buchanan ?Bucky? Barnes, was an orphan from Indiana whose father was killed in training just prior to WWII. He became the camp mascot, and befriended Steve Rogers. He eventually caught Rogers changing into his Captain America uniform and was trained as Cap?s partner.

This version of the character will obviously be different, and significantly older. Devin at CHUD posted a recap of one storyline not long ago that might point to what we?ll see Stan play in the film:

There?s a version of Bucky in the 90s miniseries The Adventures of Captain America, Sentinel of Liberty that feels like it would fit perfectly in this film: a brash street tough who befriends the completely square Steve Rogers, this Bucky could help Steve go AWOL.

THR confirms the casting, and says that Marvel will only say that, yes, Stan is playing the character. No further info.

well at this point I am going to say both, Joe Johnston I don't have alot of faith in and Chris Evans is certainly a no go for as you can tell from previous posts...he may surprise may being the right word.
