^ Even though I don't like having a separate user interface, I've wanted them to lose those for so long, they look terrible when stretched.

Looks a little odd at first glance, especially the titlebar buttons, I don't like them trying to develop their own unique interface, but at least the color scheme matches Leopards.

Hopefully windowed mode will look nicer than fullscreen. At least the palettes look better, less bulky. Lets hope the software is less buggy :)

They should drop the Aqua drop-down menus.

In favour of what?

I can see why, unformity is a key factor in a majority of pro applications, and adobe are wanting to continue in that direction - so I'll put in a feature request for that. Good call.

If you're assuming the screen shot is full screen, you're wrong - It's windowed mode.

Overall loading times are noticeably faster, even for a preliminary build it's exciting. The Bridge beta is also lightning fast in comparison.

I really don't get why they junked all that stuff in the title bar. That toolbar that sits right underneath the title bar is where all that should go. Also, is there an option to display palettes like in CS3 (Little icons docked to the side)? Nothing beats only having a palette out when you need it.

What does the ESSENTIALS menu contain?

Trust me, upon using it, the placing of all new features in the title bar is perfect. It uses up otherwise useless space, and allows for a far nicer work environment. When I first saw screenshots I was put off too, but actually using it, it's a no-brainer.

The ESSENTIALS drop-down basically houses the different types of displays/shortcut keys available. Your 'workspace' in CS3.

Also yes, you can just display one pallet with the docked icons. Features aren't being removed here, just added and unified!

i dont understand the 'unified' ui?

will it be unified with other Adobe applications? forexample i can have a dreamweaver file open in one tab, and a psd in another? or am i getting the wrong message...?

The interface of most adobe applications differ. This approach is to make them all practically the same, ala Apple Pro Applications. It allows for an easier and more productive way to work with the suite.

The tabs are merely for the documents you have open in that particular application. No, you won't be able to switch applications through tabs.

Wouldn't this be a more correct way of doing it?

Except it could look like a unified toolbar. It just seems silly to have stuff in the title bar when there is empty space in the toolbar right underneath the title bar.

You have to remember the toolbar is interchangable dependant upon what tool you have selected. Ergo can expand and decrease in real estate. Putting those few quick shortcuts on the titlebar is saving space as well as keeping the interface from being overly cluttered.

Like I said, using the application as is and seeing screenshots of it seem to produce 2 very different views on it. Keep an open mind, and when you come actually testing it out, I'm sure you'll be appreciative of its placement.

I know I, and many others in the discussion forums welcome this change.

No tool has enough items in that toolbar to expand into the area on the right. You mention it being space saving, but you are actually taking up more vertical space by increasing the title bar size in addition to tabs. Vertical space is much more important on todays widescreen monitors. Also, why is the hand, magnifying glass and zoom drop down present in the title bar when they are present elsewhere. Taking those out would minimise the amount of items and thus the rest could be stuck in that toolbar.

I know seeing and using are two different things, but at the moment all I can do is look and judge what I see. I'll definitely keep an open mind when I do get to test it though.

I did a little more digging round, and found that just like all the...frankly controversial elements of CS4 - it's user removable

You cannot, however as of yet - remove the toolbar when in the 'Application Frame' mode (i.e. not a solid unified interface, but the CS3 multi-window style)

I'll also put in a feature request to allow that to happen, although the option is currently grayed out - so I think it's a hard coded part of using the Applicaton Frame.

They should use the drop-down menus in iTunes 7, they would blend much better into the CS4 UI.

Noted. I don't think they'll take my input to that extent, but something consistent with their effort on neutralising the interface in terms of colours should spark something! I mean they decided to grey out the traffic lights, why not this?

Thanks.

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
