Battlefield Bad Company

I'm sure people will still play. Hell, I'm just now starting to put quality time into the game. And there's no reason why DICE/EA can't make adjustments. The mistake I think they made with BC is not coming out with Conquest sooner. People played the hell out of Gold Rush because it was the only mode, so if you don't like Conquest it is kind of tough to want to go back to Gold Rush. That's just my opinion, though.

I've never played TF2 but I won't go anywhere near Halo 3. If TF2 gets the love here I will get it and get rid of CoD4 (I've wanted to get The Orange Box anyway).

edit: just watched some TF2 vids on youtube. WTF is that?! LOL. Looks complicated as all hell. Maybe it was the mode the guy was playing but I saw wrenches and building sentry units and whatever else...enlighten me, please? :)

I really hope so, I've been playing the demo over the last couple of days and it sure is fun. I miss my Battlefield 2 days on PC, truly an epic game when played right. How does the new Conquest mode compare? After reading some posts, initial impressions don't seem too positive :(

 Team Fortress really isn't as complex as it appears. It's essentially CTF, but there's wide array of playable classes each with their own traits and style of play. Some are suited to defence, other offence.

I highly recommend you check it out. Is there a demo available on Steam? I wouldn't bother with the 360 version. The lag is horrendous and the scene is practically empty last time I checked.

Add me to Live if you haven't already. My tag is ynnnoj (Y)

I'm considering getting BF:BC. I'm a huge FPS fan, and I love pretty much all decent FPS's out there, and still regularly play: Cod4 (PC and 360 versions), Halo3, Shadowrun (360 version), CS:S, SoF2 (going really oldschool there! :p) on a regular basis. I do have BF2, and i played it a moderate amount, but I never had any friends with the game, and so I got lonely and bored after a while. Seeing as a load of you guys have the game and seem to play regularly, it would probably be a better experience than BF2 :)

So the big question that remains is: Is it a worth buying at the moment?

Yes, totally worth it. While Conquest mode in Bad Company has it's issues right now, it's still fun as hell. And Goldrush mode is awesome. Tons of people are playing it, and it's just fun. And I'm am a hardcore PC gamer who has played every PC BF game ever made (including Vietnam, which I still think was underrated) and enjoyed all of them immensly. But yes, it's worth buying it. And when new DLC comes along, I'm sure it'll be terrific as usual, since DICE's DLC (going by PC here) is usually terrific stuff.

Ah well, but I wouldn't mind playing it some day :)

We still need a new game to mess around with!

What about Unreal Tournament 3 on the 360 or PC? It's awesome stuff, I love playing it on the 360 actually because I don't suck as bad on the PC (go figure) and there are alot more players on the 360 than on the PC (sadly).

We could also play Call of Duty 3 (I know, I'm the only one who enjoyed it apparently). I find the MP for it is quite fun.

I don't know if we are already on each other's friends list or not Pheee, but my gamertag is in my signature, feel free to add me if you want :) I'm only level 10 or so (and I suck anyways) so I'd be more than happy to play with you when you get it tomorrow.

Ok LOC, on you're head be it if I don't enjoy it!

I'm kidding :p but thanks very much for the reply, it's convinced me (didn't take much did it.) I'll order it tonight, and hopefully I'll get it Monday and be able to play with you guys :D

My gamertag is Mr Vampy - Im also on the Neowin Clan friends list thing, so if you're on that you can find me through there as well :)

@Se7en - Nope, you can play anyone on any zone you want, the zones don't really mean much (or anything that I know of actually)

^ I saw that you added me :)

If Im in Recreation does that mean I can only play with others in that zone?

Im downloading conquest mode, luckily it fits on my memory stick :p

Yeah I added you yesterday sometime before my PC became all screwy. And you can play with any zone, but you are "more likely" to be paired with people from the zone you choose. That's how I understand it anyways.

Trust me, it's an awesome game. Even if you don't like Conquest all that much, Goldrush is funnnnn. In any event, I'll add you to my friends list :)

I'll also be ordering this soon, so there's a slim chance it'll arrive tomorrow.

The more players the merrier :D

Do we have each other on our lists? If not, feel free to add me!

Nope. Strange :/ You dont need a HDD do you? Im thinking maybe its not working cause ive downloaded it to a memory stick..

I think so maybe, where do the game updates go otherwise? And I am asking genuinely as I have no clue?

And let me say this, especially to Munky, do not give up on Conquest Mode just yet.

We played it more or less right when it came out yesterday, and indeed people had no clue what they were doing obviously.

Last night was a completely different story, as we had upwards of 30 minute games. People were finally playing it right.

Oasis is still a joke, it is still a terrible tragedy they made it so bases can be captured, but I have to say it was a totally different experience in a matter of 6 hours from people knowing what to do and people not knowing what to do.

Finally @ Munky, wasnt your initial impression of Conquest playing with Sethos? You know he hates every game! :p

Wouldnt the update automatically save to whatever you have specified as your storage device? Thats what I would think...I have no clue either.

And I was going to say the same thing to Munky to not give up just yet. But coupled with the slow internet link here at work, and Neowin still getting "optimized" from the server move, its been painfully slow to do anything.

We had some decent games last night, which seemed to have changed alot due to people knowing what they were doing. Sure, you still have your Team Deathmatch Campers, but for the most part, everyone seemed to be playing it right.

I will stick around a while longer for you guys. As long as we can switch between Gold Rush and Conquest, and not only play Conquest 24/7 now.

I don't give up that easily on a game, especially one I've played for years like Battlefield. I wanna help you guys reach Rank 25 and I want to reach 100K points as a personal goal anyways.

Fighting the urge not to tbh! But yeah I'll be on soon and give it another go. I've still to try End of the Line in Conquest. I doubt it's gonna change my mind much, but I'll play a few rounds of Gold Rush too.

I'm trying to think of another multiplayer game to fill the gap Conquest has left..

COD4 is just...meh, I couldn't get back into it when we played.

What about Halo 3 :woot: :p

UT3? I nver got into BF for some reason, and Halo3 is just boring. I haven't played much UT3 online yet, but UT is always good for some fun.

LOC, yes I have you on mine, my gamertag is 'Pheis' slightly different as my Neowin account. I also have Pheee, but its a secondary account for when friends come over.

Will look out for you online.

Thanks

Yea the Conquest mode thing (80mb file) saved to my Memory Stick, but I never got prompted to install a game update.

I dont think its cause I need a HDD for it cause XBLA trials work off it (memory stick), so I spose this should too :/

I dont know dudes, seems pretty wierd. Any ideas?

    • The proportion (or number of iterations) has nothing to with this aspect of Copyright I am describing. In short, it doesn't matter how many times the manager tells you to change something or how. Your work product is always YOURS until and unless you then assign that to the person representing the client/company, usually for financial compensation -- either in salary or as a subcontract work for hire payment. if iterations determined copyright, then businesses would have learned to just keep making changes until they could claim they owned the copyright, without having to compensate the artist for their work. And that would be BAD. The only place where the amount of changes does have a role is in how much does a human modify a previous public domain work (from any source) before it is considered fair use or their own work, etc. For example, if a human makes substantial changes to a public domain (re: AI, by definition) work, then they can then claim that derivative work as their own...but NEVER the original version, of course. That's why anyone can make a movie about Dracula, for example, as long as it is based on the public domain novel, but not if they take new ideas from copyrighted movies made afterwards. As one of the people who personally advised the US Copyright Office on their recent ruling on these very issues, be assured that I specifically used the terminology precisely -- though I made it simple enough for laymen to understand it. If I made this confusing by doing so, I apologize. But, to be clear regarding your assumption that I would agree to your second statement that I quoted above -- the answer is NO. If AI does the work, no matter how much "direction" you give it, it cannot be copyrighted. All AI generated content is in the Public Domain and therefore the copyright cannot be assigned to ANYONE, even you -- until and unless substantial modifications are made to it BY A HUMAN BEING (yourself or a contracted artist/writer/etc.) and then that copyright on the derivative work is legally (in writing) transferred to you. This is a critical distinction. And it is important that people, especially AI sloppers, understand this. For example, YouTube is not paying AI slop generators for the copyright, etc. of their AI slop. What YouTube is doing is sharing AD REVENUE for permission to publish your AI slop. Copyright/ownership/rights never come into it. Importantly, that means that anyone can copy any AI slopware on YouTube, etc. and rehost it anywhere they want, even back on YouTube, and there is nothing legal that YouTube can do about it with regards to copyright protections, ownership, DMCA, etc. Anyone is legally free to use any AI slopware in any way they want. When this ruling was pending, I warned Disney legal of all of this before they did their OpenAI deal -- that it would literally dilute their entire IP portfolio forever. They ignored that warning for the PR and stock bump. But that is why, when the ruling came down last year, Disney quickly extricated themselves from that OpenAI deal, even eating the initial upfront fees -- followed closely by OpenAI ending their entire AI video generating business model. They adjusted their PR release dates to make this less obvious to shareholders, of course. Phew. I hope that this clears up the key distinctions for you and anyone reading. If you have any additional questions or even hypotheticals about AI and Copyright, please feel free to ask.

    • Owing to the nature of Windows feature enablement updates, it was distributed over Windows Update services as a complete system upgrade rather than as an ordinary cumulative update
    • Microsoft confirms Windows 11 26H2, urges IT admins to prepare for release by Usama Jawad Windows 11 typically follows an annual update cycle, but Microsoft recently broke that tradition a bit by releasing a "26H1" version in the first half of this year as a "scoped" build for select new silicon PCs only. This version was not available for customers using 24H2 and 25H2 builds, as Microsoft is busy preparing version 26H2 for them, confirmed officially for the first time. In a Windows IT Pro blog, Microsoft has urged IT admins to prepare for the upcoming release of Windows 11 version 26H2. The company has confirmed that this will be a small enablement package (eKB) that will simply light up certain disabled features that are already present in the operating system's code base. This means that the "refined" Windows update and deployment experience will be simpler and quicker, with minimal disruptions, as the feature update will simply toggle a few flags rather than performing a complete replacement. Microsoft has explained that this is all possible because the standard Windows 11 releases share the same servicing branch and hence, the same source code. However, this also means that Windows 11 26H1 users won't be able to upgrade to 26H2 as that is a different branch, but this is something we have known for a while now. Similar to previous annual feature updates, Windows 11 26H2 will offer the following support cycles: 24 months of support for Home, Pro, Pro EDU, and Pro for Workstations editions 36 months of support for Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise Multi-session editions Microsoft has not confirmed a concrete release date for Windows 11 26H2, but noted that it is "coming soon". If we go by the ongoing release cadence, we can expect it to begin rolling out in early October 2026. As such, IT admins have been encouraged to begin validating Windows Insider releases in the Experimental Channel, plan rollout rings, and strategize the utilization of their existing deployment tools.
