HL2.exe error upon exiting - Vista 64

This error has been on going for over a year now. I've given up on STEAM fixing it. Any ideas? Running Vista 64 SP1, every time i exit TF2, I get a HL2.exe error upon closing. In steam, I disabled "Steam In Game Community" and that has not fixed the issue.

So I will see you guys on TF2 when I get around to checking it out...

Even though I had it for the 360, I went ahead and purchased The Orange Box so I could have Portal and TF2. They were each $20, so for just $30 I got them both, plus figured I could always go back and play Episode 2 on a PC, the way it was meant to be played. ;)

Very nice. (Y) Kinda funny that you were able to have a sneak peek of Goldrush earlier last year at Valve's offices, but never got around to owning and playing the game on the PC until now. :p

My Steam name's exactly the same as my forum name, if you're looking for fellow players, or better yet a community to play with ( :shiftyninja: )

TF2 on the 360 isn't that bad, it's just that it lacks updates, which have made it far better than when it was originally released.

The updates alone, plus the giant load of bug fixes over the last year - to think that TF2 on the consoles haven't had them by now is

I had the Orange Box for the X360 and have the Black Box (ATI coupon) for the PC. Unfortunately, my Xbox 360 died on my a long time ago so I rarely played it. The PC version is much better though in pretty much every way.

Anyway, I used to get the hl2.exe error but it recently came back. It started happening again after the latest update. Oh well, it doesn't bother me that much anyway.

 Luckily I had checked it on on the consoles, so I knew about it, I also did play the original version on the PC, so was able to base everything at Valve on those two things. But yeah, I always definitely wanted it on the PC, just did not have a PC to play it on, until now of course. (Y)

So will definitely add you, I am down to play with whomever whenever, just keep in mind I have a lot of catching up to do to you guys, I will probably suck for awhile.

AB, make sure you add me as well. I still have yet to play a real online game with you I do not think!

Anyone fee free to add me honestly, DirtyLarry531

I wish I could play with you as well, but with my connection and location as it is, I wouldn't be able to keep up :( .

Scirwode

does anyone know how that bug works?

I made my own server and password protected it, i just want to mess around with it.

in console i type explode; jointeam unassigned it brings up the class window, i select the class i want but it doesnt do anything, it just goes somewhere on the map and doesnt respawn or anything.

hows this work?

The exploit apparantly only works on Instarespawn servers, you have to set "mp_disable_respawn_times" to 1 for it to work.

On the flip side, spawn times that vary from 11 to 30 seconds is just absurd (highest I've hit is 33 seconds)

Well, if people just insta spawned, you would get an ongoing endless onslaught of players with aboslutely no breaks. That would end virtually every CTF game in a stalemate.

Yea, those 25-30 second spawn times you see on some servers are just painful. It's kind of like.. "wake me when i finally respawn".

Instaspawn is only good on dm_store (no criticals, skilled players) servers, other than that instaspawn just ruins the game since mose maps will just be a steamroll on attack/defend maps and stalemates on ctf. 5 cap point ones vary a little but still, it just makes the game too relentless.

instaspawn servers suck, so exploiting on those are fair game.

Personally what I think anyway :p

Couldn't agree more, I really can't understand how people like playing on 32-slot Instarespawn dustbowl spamfest servers.

I suppose that's not really surprising as I have my own 14-slot server.

I have the same error on server 08 x64, pretty much same thing as vistax64.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but I also got the HalfLife2.exe error as well, also Vista 64.

As it happened though, AVG popped up and gave me a message about an issue with DEP.

Well in my research of getting Quake Live running, it appears that this DEP messes up a whole lot of things gaming wise (Data Execution Prevention).

I have a way to turn it on and off using the console thanks to some googling, so if anyone is interested let me know and I can post when I get home from work in about 8 hours from now. Thing is though it is pretty important in stopping malicious activity, so really up to you and if you feel comfortable disabling it. But all it takes is a console commmand and a restart, and then the same thing to enable it again if you want to.

I joined one of those, dear god, the amount of spam.

Pretty much. But stalemates are fun in my opinion :D The amount of buildings that go up and down within the space of 30 minutes is crazy.

These servers are perfect for snipers to use for target practice. Could be a good or bad thing depending on which side those snipers are on.

Or you can goto advanced system properties and click the turn off dep radio button :p
