Ha, that was great.

I've got a question about the class upgrades. I've only been playing TF2 the past few weeks and slowly but surely getting the achievements but I'm feeling a little left out of these class upgrades. Are they worth getting and any tips on the best ones to focus on. How has everyone else got on with them, do you bother ?

I have got all of the unlockables but for example the heavy ones are useless for me, as I never play heavy. Make sure you get the medic achievements so you unlock the ubersaw. I also use the needle gun so I can kill people but also heal myself at the same time. For the pyro a lot of people use the improved back burner which has crits from behind and slightly more damage I think. The drawback is that it has no compression blast which I don't really use much anyway.

Also haven't used the scout unlocks much yet. I'm normally a scout in the clan I play for and most leagues ban the Sandman, with some completely banning all scout unlockables.

Hope this helps!

It should also be noted that unlike other moves that require the back, the radius for the crit of the backburner is insanely low. Half the time you'll be roasting someones back for seconds with no crits.

Medic unlocks are critical (except the Kritz which is useful but not critical to have) if you plan to do any heavy medic'ing......the only pyro unlock thats a sure-fire replacement (IMO) is the axtinguisher....light someone on fire, 1-hit kill them with your axe. Flare gun can be fun for lighting people on fire (once you learn its arc and speed its actually pretty easy to hit a target), but the shotgun is more useful when a class is burning but now outside your flamethrower range. As for heavy, most of his are situational or user preference, same with scout.

Backburner does the same base damage as the normal flamethrower. I personally rarely use the backburner.....I find the compression blast to be a million times more useful on defense (typically the only time I play pyro) than crits from behind. I can sometimes save an engy nest from stickies or crit rockets, I have killed the medic and soldier in 1 reflected crit rocket before, I have escaped soldiers and demos when low on health thanks to reflecting their weapons. That and I can pretty much stop and uber right in their tracks (unless the patient is any good, which is only like 10% of the time). The compression blast can appear not very useful, but if you get good with it (knowing when you reflect and what to reflect) you can kill soldiers even in close range (I have killed a soldier about 8 feet away, reflecting, by luck I might add, a rocket he just fired....it basically came out of his rocket launcher, turned around and hit him in the face). If your good with the compression blast some soldiers or demos wont even fire at you in fear of getting hit with their own weapon.

It all really comes down to preference though....do you like ambushing and doing massive damage from behind the enemy? Use the Backburner....do you like playing a little more defensively? Helping your team mates and staying safe from two powerful classes? Use the normal flamethrower.

I find that slightly less skillful pyro's use the backburner, just my observations (Although the backburner can be very good). You can always use the achievement unlocker if you don't feel the need to actually do the achievements, like the pointless ones which don't actually help your team while your playing.

- I wouldn't recommend just playing scout to unlock the weapons, mainly because they are useless.

- The medic unlocks are all brilliant, so get all of them.

- The heavy ones are pretty much awful except for the gloves (and the sandvich because it's so funny :p)

- The pyro you just need to get the Axetinguisher, unless you want to use the backburner.

WooHoo!!!: So far, I have everything unlocked except for the Scout's Sandman and Energy Drink. However, I rarely use the Medic's unlockables because I rarely play the Medic.

Anyway, here's a rundown of what I normally use:

  • I often use the Pyro's Backburner, Flare Gun, and Axtinguisher. I find the Backburner very effective when I ambush my enemies. It's great when you run up behind a group of Soldiers or Heavies and burn them. It guarantees crits from behind and it grants you an extra fifty health. The Flare Gun comes in handy against Snipers or what I like to call "runners". I'm talking about people that run away from you with low health. It's quite satisfying to pop a flare on them and watch their health drop. Finally, the Axtinguisher is great to use on any enemy that's currently on fire. It guarantees a crit hit each time you use it, but it's significantly weaker on enemies that aren't on fire.
  • I also use the Heavy's Natascha and Killing Gloves of Boxing (K.G.B.). I use the Natascha for quick incursions. It's useful for turning around a corner and spraying fleeing enemies. It slows them down for an instant, giving you a chance to kill them. And for that reason it's especially useful against Scouts and Medics. But -25% damage seems like -50% damage when you're trying to gun down another Heavy using Sasha (the regular Minigun). As for the K.G.B., I use it simply because it offers 5 seconds of crit hits after you kill someone with it. Those 5 seconds can come in handy when you're surrounded by enemies. And it looks so much better than the Heavy's fists; however, the swing speed is very slow so it can be frustrating to use. That, coupled with the Heavy's slow movement could mean trouble for amateur Heavies.

It's wise to unlock the Pyro and Heavy unlockables before the Medic or Scout since you normally play the Pyro, Engineer, and Heavy. The unlockables for both classes are very useful except for the Sandvich. It heals for 120 health but it leaves you vulnerable for four seconds. It also makes the Heavy loud which could hint nearby enemies. Trust me, I've died way too many times while eating my Sandvich. It's not worth the effort especially when you can have a Medic heal you.

Hmm I'm really annoyed now - I've lost most of my achievements and stats from TF2 (it's reset to me playing a total of 8 hours :().

I don't remember ever having this problem on any game on Steam before :s.

I lost a few achievements once but they came back after a few hours, I don't know what caused it

I prefer to do the same thing with the shotgun, but killing them instantly instead of relying on afterburn to finish the job. Yes the flare gun can kill them when it hits, but I find the shotgun more likely to do so....besides, if they don't die in 1 flare gun shot they will be out of range (or out of sight) before you can reload and fire again (usually) so you are forced to rely on the afterburn....with the SG you get instant damage multiple times so its more likely to kill them. That being said I change between them often.....if I'm on large open maps I grab the flare gun, small enclosed maps I use the SG....flares are great for burning a heavy at long range where you can jump out and shoot a flare only to be hit by a few of his bullets for very low damage.
