Just in-case some of you haven't noticed yet, they extended the event to the 9th, so you are still able to get the Halloween hats if you do not have them yet (along with the other achievements). Beyond that, they have stated (on the Steam forums) that the Ghastly Gibus hat will still be obtainable after the event. The achievement will still be unlocked and you will be able to earn it the same way you currently can. All the other Halloween achievements however, will become locked until next year.

Yay! I don't have time tonight, so I will do it within the week.

Also, more time with Harvest. :D

Harvest is here to stay, Harvest_event (the one with the exploding pumpkins) is the one that will most likely disappear (from the official Valve list, I am sure servers who do not do official rotations will host it) after the event ends. :p

This game just really isn't fun for me any more. Played for an hour or so, the original fun I got out of it just isn't there, I think it's because of the item drops.

I've never gotten a single hat for this game that wasn't from achievements, yet every time I play 90% of the people playing with me have hats, and when I see it it's just a "I have something you don't have" feeling I get, but I can't do anything about it, to get an item I have to play the game for multiple hours a day to have any chance and playing the game just isn't fun any more.

The new hat you have to pay for is annoying me as well, because it's yet another hat I can't get (I have no money, the game is censored to the point of un-playability, etc.), and when playing the game I just see other people with it.

It sounds stupid, but the It's the only thing that stands out while playing the game to me (I've played these maps enough times that it's just getting repetitive)

I have 3 hats - two from the halloween achievements and the other from pre-ordering L4D2. It would've been nice to leave RNG behind me with WoW...

I feel your pain. I've still to get a hat drop from Valve also whereas people who I play online with have 5-6 hats. I get that it's random and it's the luck of the draw, but it's frustrating. I haven't (and won't) be pre-ordering L4D2, so I won't be getting that hat either :p It also sucks they haven't implemented the trading system yet.

They could try implementing a method where you're rewarded not just for ingame time but for other things like caps, kill streaks, etc. Although I suppose it could be abused.

What I do not get is the implemented the random system to prevent people from "farming" hats, and while you cannot truely farm hats, you have more chances of getting a hat the longer you are online. So they implemented a system that promotes people idling when they are not playing, as opposed to a system where people can get hats by accomplishing map objectives or something. Sure the latter would be more farmable than a RNG, but it would promote people to actually play the game more instead of just sitting in an idle server hoping to get lucky.

Yeah agreed. Well, ironically I actually got my first hat tonight! I got the Ye Old Bakers Boy hat for the scout. Valve must have heard me ;)

Hopefully you start getting hat drops soon too. Maybe now I'll get an avalanche of hats? Or maybe not...

the top hat, and one of the halloween masks i believe.

Those two are a bit different. I think basically everyone has the Gibus hat as you can get it quite easily. Same goes for the Halloween masks although I think they will be disappearing soon. The other hats, on the other hand aren't so easy to get :p

He could mean the Scotsman's Stove Pipe though?

ah ok, that makes a lot more sense

Yesterday I finally got the Out of the Park scout achievement. It was hilarious because the Halloween taunts are on, so I taunted 6-7 times behind a sniper before finally getting the bat taunt and he didn't even notice me until he got bonked.

To date I have YET to actually FIND a hat through playing.

The only hats I've gotten so far is BILL'S HAT from Left 4 Dead 2 preorder, and The Ghastly Gibus, gotten from dominating someone WITH the hat.

I don't worry, i'm in the same boat as you. But it's ok though, I have about 9 Blutsaugers, 6 Bonk Drinks etc. etc...

    • Not even an OLED display on the laptops. Also it seems that the laptop design isn't the same as the Surface Ultra model. Looks like bargain bin at high prices.

    • VirtualBox 7.2.10 by Razvan Serea VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well-defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or possibly remotely. VirtualBox also comes with a full Software Development Kit: even though it is Open Source Software, you don't have to hack the source to write a new interface for VirtualBox. Virtual machine descriptions in XML. The configuration settings of virtual machines are stored entirely in XML and are independent of the local machines. Virtual machine definitions can therefore easily be ported to other computers. • OK, now ask yourself how are they going to enforce that law? By requiring every single adult to prove their age and provide their legal identity documents to an UNREGULATED 3rd party company that already has a long track record of multiple data breaches. Not to mention, parliament have voted AGAINST this ban, twice, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. So, where's the democracy here, because that looks like dictatorship to me. The solution here is parental responsibility, not government control. Run some public service announcements on TV and UK social media teaching parents how to setup parental controls. That's already been proven to actually work. But the, this is not and has NEVER been about keeping kids safe. It's about control and monitoring. Watching what you're doing online and controlling what you can see and what you can say.
    • Interesting read. I knew the adware was quite controversial at the time, however never realised to the point The Guardian wrote an article about Patchou. I just said no and enjoyed his creation, I’d probably be a lot more wary of something like that today though.
