After ~3 years of free updates Valve decided to make some money :D You can always sell these boxes for some weapons / metal (that's what I do).

I really don't have a problem with them making money. But I just feel like this game is turning in to a hooker with all these paid add-ons, especially when I get an unlock that requires me to purchase a key to open it.

I idled for all of last night and got 4 crates and 1 paint, none of the crates are the festive kind :( (50/50 split between series 8 and 9)

Series 9 are delicious with all the paints, they feel like you can't lose. I have one key left and just need to grab one more S9 crate, too bad I hit my quota already. Now I have to wait on trades. :(

Just need a few more weapon drops and I'll have a new Sniper hat. Annoying thing is that it might be the one I just traded away, or a hatless. That makes it a 1/3 chance I'll get something bad. :( Anyone got any crap they want rid of? Look at the spare items I have in the bottom right of page one and if you have any weps for one of those classes going spare I will trade you.

Agreed, I've been lucky so far with the few crates I've gotten in that I've either gotten a paint, a name tag, or a polycount weapon.

Gah, sometimes TF2 really ticks me off....

Playing as Demo, me and a soldier are fighting a scout, I hit him with a nade and he has me down to like 90 health, he jumps off a ledge, hits me ONCE with his bat and gets a lucky crit.....I respawn, go to the cart with my bottle out. An enemy spy attempts to push it from the opposite side of the cart (he hadn't seen me), he sees me and starts running around the cart, I start running straight backwards swinging my bottle. He swings once from in front of me and gets a BACKstab......Valve really needs to fix that.

It's ashame that crits are enabled by default though, nocrits is the only way to play this game but there's so few servers running it that I only have one on my favorites and it doesn't always have people on it.

I've got a handful of dupes on the right side of page 4, prod me on Steam if there is anything you need. I also have a Bonk Helm elsewhere that is up for trade if anyone has any offers.

If you're okay with trading, I really wouldn't bother with crafting a class specific hat; It's just a waste of a refined, go with a random craft and then trade the result for what you want.

Yeah but what if the result is something crap? :/

The facestab issue I can understand. Damn those cheap spies... lol.

But nocrits as default? If it's a competitive game then sure, crits should be disabled (in addition to whatever stupid restrictions they enforce). In a normal pub game, where the nature of the game is casual enough, I don't see why crits should be removed. It provides a nice laugh every now and then when some random stray crit rocket or pipe grenade manages to wipe out a group of 5 at once - well, funny for whoever fires the rocket :p

I'm of course assuming you're talking about removing random crits. Removing crits altogether, now that's just crazy.

Yes, I'm talking about random crits only. I have no problem dying in one hit, I have a problem dying in one hit with nothing I can do about it (walk around a corner CRIT TO THE FACE.....walk out of spawn....CRIT TO THE FACE). I also do not find it funny when I get random crits on people either....I would much rather kill an enemy in a good fight than kill one without taking damage due to getting a random lucky crit.

I love random crits, when playing as a soldier they're the best :p Once i hit a guy mid-air with a random crit, that was epic :D On most servers I play though crits are put to a vote vefore every round starts.

I hate them....I felt bad for Blu on a round of Gravelpit because I was the only person on the point, I was nearly dead (less than 50 health as a soldier), and I fired a crit rocket killing the only two blu people on the point literally at the same time they killed me. I fired the crit, died, then the crit hit and killed them. The round timer was up seconds later and because they had died they were not capping the point so they instantly lost. Felt pretty sad for them that a dice roll lost the game for them.

Anyone interested in a Soldiers Shako and the rare paint color Color No. 216-190-216 for a Physician's Procedure Mask?

The light pink paint isn't rare, it's both buyable and droppable while being fairly unpopular compared to other paints, especially the crate only paints.

Also I wouldn't hotlink from tf2wiki.net if I were you, it has been abandoned and thus easily falls victim to vandalism.

I'd also add that the Shako was in Mann Co. Supply Crates so its value dropped quite a bit, although now that crate doesn't drop so its value will slowly increase again. Actually I bought one last night for a friend for 1 refined, 1 reclaimed.

The medic mask is actually pretty expensive, especially to buy as vintage.

Considering the new Killing Floor item for Pyro, I really want the Pyro to actually sound like Mr. Foster. That'd be awesome.

I love random crits..wish there was more of them for certain classes like Soldier if you have a certain gun or other item to increase its chances of coming out. Love finding several enemies in one spot, keep on pumping rockets into the area and sooner or later a crit will come out. Many times I've just dominated several into pcs from one hit, makes for a awesome feeling.

Ohh and I counted.. I have 17 damn crates from level 1 to 5. Someone is bound to want these things for perhaps a few items or whatever cause I'll be damned if I'm going to buy key's to open them. Valve either needs to make key's a findable object or make it so you can craft crates!!!! Say 5 crates craftable to 1 scrap or something!!

So you like spamming rockets until you get lucky crits? Let me guess, you also enjoy playing 24/7 2fort with instant respawn? No offense, but random crits have no usefulness in any semi-serious game, they are good for a quick laugh but beyond that they are simply annoying and useless. I would rather enjoy fighting opponents of equal skill than get a lucky crit that kills them.

I am fine with people having different opinions than my own, but in a game that relies mostly on skill and teamwork, I would rather leave luck out of the equation entirely.

Valve bought the TF2 Wiki. :|

Nope. Valve came to an arrangement with the administration of what was originally tf2wiki to create the new "official wiki", Valve hosted an install of mediawiki and they ported all the content over.

tf2wiki.net is still up because the original owner who was NOT a contributor sold the site at auction, hence why there are even more adverts now. The information there is unmoderated, thus untrustworthy.
