lol, I had some random person add me to his friend list just so he could ask me if I would sell my soldier medal (the one that only 11,111 people got or however many), he asked if I would take paypal or trade it for hats. I told him no so he removed me from his friend list, poor guy must be lonely.

Not really, it's just that (as far as I know) you can't chat with people who are not on your friends list.

Well yes, but the fact that he added me just to ask that question....you would think if I had wanted to get rid of it I would be advertising it in various places. Instead, he is adding probably everyone who got a medal (all 11 thousand of them) and asking them one by one if they want to sell their medal....

Heads-up guys, hopefully as long as Valve-time doesn't interceed (Even though this is a community contribution) there should be a pretty significant update hitting on Tuesday, which will drastically improve the way hats are painted; Additionally there are some tweaks being made to the overall quality of the Capotain and Handyman's Handle.

There will probably also be the usual handful of bugfixes throw-in too.

Source? Also, if true, how many times are they going to change the way hats are colored? This would mark the 2nd change to how hats are painted, potentially ruining some hat color combinations (making them too vibrant or what not).

Daimao, the creator of the Frenchman's Beret has been working on using L4D-style tintmaps for paint rather than the current block system Valve use; This allows the Phong mask hats had originally to be restored, meaning no more super-plastic hats. He got in contact with GreenMarine from the TF2 team who got it approved for release.

The news has also finally hit SPUF (Took them 5 days to eventually find out) if you don't believe me.

@The_Decryptor, I've heard nothing personally, so I wouldn't count on it.

Bout time they fixed that then, so they are not really changing the way hats are painted so much as they are changing the way painted hats are displayed so they don't look like plastic.

No, the new method actually tints the hat properly rather than just overlaying a colour; texture detail now actually shows through rather than being covered up.

Here is an example to give you an idea, this is an older iteration from what I hear though so the end-result may be superior.

@rm20010, I'm hearing that the handle is no longer broken and is full length as it was when the creator orignially contributed it.

Ah that's great! Makes the hat a bit funnier. :p

Those hats look great as well. I never cared for them before due to their plasticky look.

Ah, gotcha....that looks MUCH better.....for anyone not familiar with the Tyrolean, here's an image of how it currently looks painted purple (compare to the first hat in the image to the "new" painted tyrolean): http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/3/3c/Painted_Vintage_Tyrolean_7D4071.png

Got some more tidbit for you guys, Headsplitter model "fixes" alongside improved Killicons by the lovely NeoDement of Wikicap and Skullcutter fame.

Apparantly Robin has got a bunch of of the TF2 team working individually with contributors; Tomorrow's update is shaping up to be pretty damn awesome I must say.

So judging by the new 'beta'-related blog post it seems like they're considering making natascha join the ranks of the other various items they've nerfed into utter uselessness. Hopefully though, they'll have enough sense to not pick an option other than #3.

I bet the competitive crybabies would happily push for the first two natascha options.

Third option sounds good though and it's a decent award/tradeoff. The first two is just nerf, nerf, nerf.

    • Hello, Christian Maas' XVI32 is a nice (and very small) hex editor. Speaking of hex editors, many years ago a colleague and I who both worked at Tribal Voice managed to edit a copy of the company's PowWow instant messaging client to make it behave better now that all of its lookup servers and other server-side tech was gone.  The program didn't support NAT (RFC-3022 was introduced in January 2001, the same time Tribal Voice was shuttered), but it still worked okay if you manually set up port-forwarding on your router.  The server at http://powwow.jazy.net/ hosts a copy (usual warnings about downloading and running untrusted code from random internet servers apply). I occasionally use some tools like Funduc Software's Search and Replace and Application Mover when I need to make mass-edits to text-based files or move programs with a hard-coded installation directories, respectively.  When I need to figure out the exact LCD panel inside of a laptop, EnTech Taiwan's Monitor Asset Manager is my go-to tool for that purpose. JD Design's website (now hosted on github.io) has a number of interesting freeware and shareware utilities.  I used to use their TouchPro utility to set the file timestamps on software I was mastering to match its version number (e.g., version 3.00 of a program had all of its files dates set to 3:00AM, and so forth). Karenware has a number of interesting freeware utilities, too. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
    • I still use HexChat! Not really as ancient as the 1994 AutoCAD above my post, but I have never found anything better to replace it. Yes we still operate an IRC server https://www.neowin.net/irc/ 😛
    • At work we still have a couple of people that use a version of AutoCAD LT purchased in 1994. This predates Windows 95 and works fine on versions of Windows up to XP. Its long since run in an locked down isolated XP VM, accessible via RDP. I did install LibreCAD for them, however they said it was just too different to get to grips with. In all fairness one of them is now 75 and the other is almost 60.
    • On my music making (non internet) PC Sony Acid Pro 7.0 Adobe Audition 2015 Korg Legacy Collection Windows 7 SP1
    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
