The update just took effect like 10mins ago.. downloading now. I swear to God they need to stop forcing this update at 9pm during peak gaming time!!!!

Yeah I only updated a few minutes ago, but I didn't know if it was there prior to 12am GMT, which for me would make it yesterday :p

http://www.tf2items.com/id/robinwalker

Pages 4 and 5 for the new items (descriptions and names, no icons yet though). Demo's new nade launcher is basically more damage and faster moving nades, but they shatter when hitting a surface, so no bouncing nades (plus a smaller clip size and more self-damage). It's essentially the DH for demo's.

The medic has a melee that, on taunting, gives a healing effect to allies in the area....dunno how much or anything......and the scout (at least I think it's the scout) gets a new bat that applies a bleed effect for 5 seconds on hit, but if he misses he hurts himself.

Heavy also gets new gloves that make him take less ranged damage but more melee damage. And a new minigun that does more damage but slower spinup times and the heavy moves even slower while firing.

Lot's more than I can bother to list, the above probably isn't even half of them, so if you want to spoil some of the surprise go to the link above and read everything with a ? icon.

EDIT: Oh, and the engy gets a new wrench that has +30% construction time and -25% damage.....no clue if this means faster building of the lvl 1 or of it means less metal to upgrade a sentry or what, but it seems like the rumored PDQ from ages ago.

The medic taunt heal seems to heal all allies in its area of affect when it's activated to full health over a few seconds. Slight bug, if you walk into its AoE after it has been used (and you were not in it when it began) it doesn't heal you. But chances are that will be fixed and it will be slightly nerfed at the least. Full AoE healing is might powerful.

I just tried out the 'Medieval Mode'. It's fun, but leaves you wondering what on earth Valve are smoking. Hell, even chat messages are translated into a pseudo old English..

How do you find servers running 'Medieval Mode'?

lol, sounds interesting.....I would say translating chat messages like that is actually a cool little thing that only Valve would think to add to such a mode. I haven't played it yet, but I have heard Jarate is not usable......I can understand it for the glass jar thing, but maybe they could turn it into a small bucket or something while medieval mode is enabled? Certainly ****ing on your enemies could have been done during those times.

Search for the tag 'medieval'. The map is called cp_degrootkeep.

You only have melee weapons, so choose your class wisely.

Bah....melee only? Why does the update image show a sniper with a huntsman and the medic with his new crossbow then? I guess they would need to add medieval weapons to all classes though for it to be fair if the sniper and medic got their non-melee weapons. It will probably come eventually, it's ashame they didn't add weapons to every class to get it out with this update though.

Well, I guess the huntsman counts as melee - let me be more precise: You don't get any guns, flamethrowers etc. The engineer for instance only gets the wrench, which makes him (imho) rather useless in medieval mode.

I can see this expanding over the coming year. I imagine that the engineer will get "medieval" contraptions to build (level 3 trebuchet ftw).

Okay, that makes a bit more sense....like I said, they should have held onto it until all classes had weapons (not just a melee weapon) that could be considered medieval.

Sums up my opinions now entirely, yes it's fun but Trade Fortress 2 had ruined what was, and there's just too much content now. Yes having the items is good but... I feel they're going too far.

I agree with you mostly. I still find TF2 fun, but I think they should simplify the items a bit more. Sure it's great to have choices, but there need to be less minor weapon changes and more major weapon changes. Minor being like the scout's new candy cane bat or the heavies new gloves that increase damage for a drop in health. Major being things like YER (the spy polycount knife) that change a major part of the spy (no disguising on demand, must backstab an enemy to disguise, but disguising in that manor is instant and silent).

Essentially they should do away with individual minor weapons and add more major weapons that work as sets. But require the player to equip the full set or none of the pieces from it. This essentially allows each class to have a subclass of sorts. For example, the scout's primary loadout is still one of the best for general combat, they can leave it alone and add a secondary set that is better for ambushing, but make the ambushing set tweak his movement speed or mobility while keeping him as quite as possible, but cripple his head-on attack power with the set as well. Like they could make the fish do less damage but make it quieter, then make his pistol into something like a sandvich of some sort to heal himself while he is on his own (mad milk is awesome, but it requires fighting an enemy....not much of an option if you are low on health), while turning his scattergun into something that has slow weaker hits, but it's much quieter than the scattergun and increases his movement speed slightly. Then require the player to use that full set or the normal loadout.

It would essentially take some choice away from players, but it would allow players to pick more customized roles if they could chose sets that better fit their playstyle. One scout might prefer the normal combat abilities while another might prefer to just annoy/distract enemies, in which the set mentioned above would help (live longer on his own, do much less direct damage but move faster and more silently).

This would help to reduce the amount of figuring out your enemy you would have to do as well, you should be able to figure what you're facing at a glance, that's the whole pull behind TF2, know what you are up against as soon as you see them. Currently it's like you only know what class you are against, and have to wait until you are fighting them to figure out what loadouts they are using and how to best counter them.

Definitely agree. Used to play it all the time, a lot (since beta). Missed a few months and the odd class update a while back, but catching up was still fairly easy. Now, there's a load of weapons I've got no idea about, so I've given up even bothering trying to get them. Still never had a hat randomly drop. It's a shame, such a good game. Oh well. :(

SPUF has a thread on giving away items (and requesting them), so I might as well post this here too...

EDIT: Actually, use this link since I can edit it indefinitely and it allows me to make changes in 1 place: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19572576&postcount=147

The above is what I want (for free) and what I am giving away (for free) please limit yourself to 1 item if you need something from the list so there is plenty to go around. If need be I'll revise the list later and let everyone have another draw.

Tried Medieval mode tonight, not particularly exciting, although I'm sure that will get better once people start getting the medieval weapons. At the minute, it's basically m?l?e only + huntsman.

    • What they really need to do is automatically spell "loses" and "lose" correctly since nobody seems to know how to anymore. Then they blame spellcheck/autocomplete and don't realize autocomplete is just filling in the word for them automatically so it was misspelled in the first place.
    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
