Even though I don't play Team Fortress 2 much anymore, I decided I'd go ahead and buy a couple of items while Valve has their big item sale. If you think you're ever going to want any of the items in the store, I'd recommend checking now since they're so cheap. I did it mainly to support Valve and the third-party developers, since we keep getting all these awesome updates with new maps and items for free.

Yeah I bought some stamps to support the mapmakers and get the hat :)

I got a key and used it on a winter crate... and got the Madame Dixie. Trying to make the pyro a flaming homo!? I want my key back :(

The Pyro is a woman, duh ;)

Exactly :D

Speaking of the pyro, his her dammit its Meet the Team video is still missing :(

I think everyone has given up waiting now, it's probably not going to happen :(

It probably will eventually, Meet the Medic is on the way, no reason for them to do one of the missing two without at least planning to do the last one.

That being said, the pyro is not and never has been a women.....what's sad is a single mistake on Valves end (mistyping "her" instead of "him", only to fix it later) started the whole Pyro is a women thing.

Meet the medic is coming? Awesome!

And, I don't think it was an accident. Valve is just messing with fans. There's been tons of hints about both male and female aspects of the Pyro. ;)

Edit: Grrr... Team Fortress 2 keeps losing the connection to every single server I play on, and I have no clue why. I can play my 360 fine, or other PC games, but for some reason I keep having connection problems in TF2 today. My connection is stable, too. Gah!

I bought two festive keys and opened two crates I had sitting around, first one got my a Candy Cane (I've received 4 of those in the last few days), second one got me a Magnificent Mongolian.

I don't like that hat so I put it up for trade for a Madame Dixie, took about 2 minutes for somebody to make the trade

I'm gonna spend $15 on keys even though I know for a fact they're gonna be dupes / unwanted items, I hate myself

Tell me about it, I got 2 of the new Demo Swords from crates as well as 2 from drops... how lame mad.gif

I have the following items for trade:

- 12 crates (can do multiple trades if someone has a good item for all of them)

- 2 Christmas crates (they expire soon, obviously)

- 3 name tags

- A Rather Festive Tree (hat)

- Paint: Noble Hatter's, No. 216-190-216

- Vintage weapons: Huntsman, Bonk! Atomic Punch, Gunboats, Kritzjrieg, Killing Gloves of Boxing, Flare Gun, Tribalman's Shiv

I'd like to get either metal (depends on the trade, obviously) or hats, and the two new medic weapons.

I finally decided to buy TF2, due to all the good comments i've read and heard about it, and also due to the gameplays i've seen (i think this game must be great). I know there are some TF2 players here in Neowin so, can anybody give me some tips or recommendations to start with this game? I never played it before so i'm a bit lost

Start off playing medic, heal everyone and learn the maps, then you're gonna need to figure out which class suits you best (In the beginning I played with Heavy a lot - damage is good and he has the most HP so it's easier to stay alive :) ).

There is a built-in training mode. Give that and the offline practice maps a try.

Once you're ready for online play, ignore the trade requests from other players for now until you're used to the game and have acquired a few items via the random drop system. As previously mentioned, good starter classes are the medic and heavy. Soldier is also a good pick - I personally started playing soldier the most.

I wouldn't start out Medic unless you want to be screamed at by people who complain when you don't heal them only or you don't uber them. I would recommend Pyro to start, but definitely try them all and see what you enjoy playing as the most.

For a new player, medic is often the best class to learn the game as, not only to learn one of the more vital roles in TF2, but to also learn your enemies. People generally target medics more often than other classes, making your life more difficult but also teaching you things about other classes, their weapons, general tactics they use, etc. At the same time, a bad medic is more useful to a team than a bad player of any other class. Also be sure to heal as many people as you can, don't get on a heavy and stick on him, heal other classes around you that need healing to help your team out.

Also, play on 24-person servers (or less)....32 may seem more fun, but maps with chokepoints become nearly impossible to break through when there are more than 12 players on each side (against a good team it is difficult to break through a chokepoint even at 24 players total).

Yeah, I thought about mentioning that, people tend to yell at medics a lot and everyone thinks they can do the job better :) But I still think it's a good starting class.

I agree with this. Don't start with Medic as players in TF2 have this expectation that every Medic should be the best player that has ever lived, you'll just make yourself a target for both abuse and the enemy team. Admittedly I prefer to not be healed by random Medics because just as we're about to make a push they decide to zerg off and heal some braindead Pyro that's at the bottom of the scoreboard instead.

I'd personally recommend Soldier, you can be fairly effective without the need for higher-level skills; Heavy also works. Once you've got a good feel for TF2 you'll probably want to try Demoman or Scout depending on your playstyle.

    • Steam Next Fest returns with thousands of new demos to try out by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Valve has been routinely kicking off demo festivals on Steam for years now, and the second drop of 2026 has just opened its doors. It's a great opportunity for any PC gamers to find some interesting games before they release. The June edition of Steam Next Fest is a week-long digital festival including gameplay slices from a large number of indie developers, though a few major publishers are involved this time too. Interested players can use the Next Fest hub page's various sorting and filtering options to easily sort through the hordes of demos available. The top buttons offer quick access to separate and important sorting options, including "By Genre, By Theme, By Feature," with each one offering more granular settings when clicked. At the same time, the built-in Steam tags system is also available below every page to discover new games more quickly. As always, logging in will also enable Steam gamers to utilize Valve's recommendation algorithms to find game demos they might like, specifically, depending on their past play and purchase histories. This time there is even a toggle now to swap between getting a random and personalized selection as Valve collects more data on the available demos. The Charts section is where you can find the most popular demos on the platform right now, offering up the most hyped titles in a simple list. Right at the kickoff, Mistfall Hunter, Empulse, Echoes of Aincrad, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Over the Hill, Mortal Shell II, and more are trending. Expect this list to change as the week progresses. This edition of the Steam Next Fest is slated to end on June 22 at 10 AM PT. Valve's latest event is now open, and it can be accessed by going to the dedicated hub page here.
    • I lived and breathed MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger. Going to the mess.be website (still online with no changes since 2013) to download display pictures etc. I was a beta tester for Messenger Plus! and spent quite a lot of time on the MsgPlus! forums (a read-only copy is still online at https://shoutbox.menthix.net) Some old Neowin articles also https://www.neowin.net/news/messenger-plus-350/ good times but how time flies
    • Well i'll look into a docking station if needed and use that.    Normally i don't usually have all the drives connected at once,  usually once a month to sync the latest files, and then they go back in there storage area
