They better fix (or have fixed) that bug. I ran across it multiple times over the past few days. As a fellow player said, it's marginally better than vuvuzelas. Just marginally. :p

Yeah it's pretty annoying. After a few KKs, they seem to play over each other and it's pretty had to hear anything. My game still hasn't updated yet but hopefully it's fixed! (Y)

Yeah i wish they would fix that.... wont be using kritz or wanting it untill it is fixed hope it is fixed soon.

Seems there is a temporary fix for this by muting the kritz sound file:

New patch today.

Team Fortress 2

  • Added Loch-n-Load kill icon.
  • Added the mini-sentry kill icon.
  • Fixed the Kritzkrieg charge deployed sound getting stuck on.
  • Fixed the Heavy's fists not playing the critical hit animation.
  • Item Whitelist improvements by request:
  • The "mp_tournament_restart" command will now force the whitelist to reload.
  • Setting "unlisted_items_default_to" "1" will cause the whitelist to act as a blacklist.
  • Setting a specific item to "1" or "0" will override the whitelist/blacklist default.

Undocumented changes

  • Improved Ullapool Caber and Candy Cane kill icons.

That was actually yesterday......I was playing when the server I was on shut down to update......that was my clue to quit playing for the night.

The update only just hit me today so I guess it happened overnight.

No it was definitely yesterday, because I was in the middle of playing when it happened, but it depends on the timezone you are in. I'm in the EST time zone, and the update happened at roughly 7:40 PM. As seen here, that's 16:40 (or 4:40 PM) PST, which is the timezone Valve is in.

It's possible that it happened overnight in your timezone, but where Valve is located (and for the rest of the US) it happened between 4:40 PM and 7:40 PM yesterday.

EDIT:

16:40:00 Tuesday January 11, 2011 in America/Los_Angeles converts to 00:40:00 Wednesday January 12, 2011 in Europe/London.

So around 12:40 AM today (the 12th) is when the update went live for your local time.

Question for the fellow TF2'ers.

I just started playing TF2 again after a considerate hiatus, perhaps 18 months or so. Anyway, I recall a CTF map that I played a lot, and I can't remember the name of it. I'll describe it best I can, and hopefully someone can clue me in.

The central area is desert themed and the bases are multi-level concrete bases. Each base has a bridge that leads to the central area and a moat in front of it with shallow water (it won't put out a fire unless you crouch in one of the deeper spots). Each base also has a winding tunnel that leads to the bottom of the moat. There's also a tunnel that connects the two moats. This tunnel has two small alcoves with lifts that take you up to a small platform overlooking the central area of the map. So, the two main ways from one base to the other were either on the main level across the desert terrain, or down below, through the tunnels.

The base consisted of a main intelligence room with the intel on a raised platform, accessible by a stairway on either side. The second floor contained the spawn room; when you exit it you can look down onto the intel room or go to a small alcove that looks out over the central area (favorite spot for snipers).

That's most of what I can recall. Anyone remember it?

Mach (or ctf_mach4 for the actual map name I think).

It's a custom map so you won't find it on stock servers (unless they run custom maps as well as stock maps).

Bleh, ninja'ed....I knew exactly what map he was talking about just couldn't remember its name. :p

Yes, Mach3! Thanks, guys. I spent an inordinate amount of time on that map before the class upgrades and new maps and game modes came out.

On another note, I was under the assumption that you could still unlock the three original weapon upgrades for each class by hitting the three achievement milestones. However, this past weekend I hit milestone 1 for soldier and didn't get anything. Sad.

Weird I got The Huntsman last week (or maybe it was 2 weeks ago) by hitting Sniper's milestone.

Yeah, it was odd. Just a few deaths prior, I got Heavy's sandwich item via item drop, and then 10 minutes later I THOUGHT I saw 'Soldier Milestone 1' in the corner of the screen, and yet when I checked my backpack, no new items.

Maybe I didn't hit the milestone? Who knows. Maybe it was someone else and they broadcast the achievement to everyone on the server?

Yes, whenever someone gets an achievement, everyone on the server sees it, it was likely someone else. You can use milestones for every class to get their 3 unlocks that came with their class update (only exception is the soldiers 4th unlock, the Gunboats, you have to craft or get them through drops). Any unlock added after that classes update, you must either craft or get through the drop system though.

Sometimes the item backend can be delayed, and occasionally is offline for maintenance/etc.

Could you provide a link to you Steam community profile?

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
