Anyone with an idea of what happened here ...

Last night I was in a server and the screen froze for a few seconds, went black and then came back up and it was like this ...

This happens to me occasionally in source games as well. I don't think I've seen tf2 do it though.

Update

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2DM)

- Updated the version check when connecting to a server to indicated whether the server's version of the game is older or newer than the client's version when they're different.

Team Fortress 2

- Made Bill's Hat always tradable.

- Fixed a client crash caused by malformed custom client spray.

- Added a Red team skin to the Fists of Steel.

- Fixed melee attacks not destroying remote detonation pipes.

- Added the Rimmed Raincatcher to the list of Unusual hats.

- Fixed the Stickybomb Launcher viewmodel sleeves using the wrong team colors for team Blue.

- Fixed players getting set bonuses applied on tournament servers when the server is restricting the player's weapons using the item_whitelist.

- Updated CP_Thundermountain

- Updated the final stage to have the train begin receding after 15 seconds.

- Reduced the cart speed on the final two ramps in the final stage to 1/2 normal speed.

That could be true, but it was the last stage of Gold Rush, which favors Red spamming. Though, Blue, not surprisingly, won. And, when I went to spec to take the screenshot and people started getting auto balanced they, they just disconnected, not wanting to be on the loosing team. One guy got autobalance, disconnected and reconnected to get back on Blue!

I play on No Heroes (I pay for VIP) and stacking is an issue. Especially on their payload servers. People pick teams to join their friends. 4 people on the Blu team are on my friends list (and they are pretty good) and none on Red.

Also, VIPs don't get auto balanced and can switch team with a command that overrides the auto balance which makes it easy to stack.

Good place to play is definitely the KritzKast servers, or Facepunch (Remember to mute micspammers if you don't like it though).

Also, update.

Updates to Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)

  • Fixed a server crash exploit caused by malformed network packets

Counter-Strike: Source

  • Updated De_Inferno
  • Community fixes

Team Fortress 2

  • Fixed the Amputator and the Crusader's Crossbow healing teammates that have the Equalizer as their active weapon
  • Updated the Red team skin for the Fists of Steel

Three new community maps added in the latest update (Koth_Lakeside, PL_Frontier and PLR_Nightfall). Thank God there are no more CP maps, I hate CP.

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
    • AMAZON needs to take total accountability for this.
    • Server Summit had a heap of announcements, ADCS changes are baller.
