Footballer attacked bouncer with handbag

A Championship footballer attacked a nightclub doorman with his girlfriend's handbag, causing a three-inch cut to the victim's head.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers, attacked 37-year-old doorman Greg Smith outside a nightclub in Plymouth, Devon.

The 22-year-old striker was ejected from the Candy Store with friends at around 4am on November 11 last year and an argument started on the pavement outside.

Prosecuting barrister David Gittins said CCTV footage showed Ebanks-Blake holding "something over his head" which he hit the doorman with.

He said: "It was his girlfriend's handbag.

"Having been ejected from the club there was a fracas. We do not know what was in the handbag.

"There was a two to three-inch cut on the man's head."

Ebanks-Blake, of Renaissance Gardens, Plymouth, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and a second public order offence of using threatening or abusive language.

At Plymouth Crown Court, Judge Francis Gilbert QC said he was a man of previous good character and gave him credit for pleading guilty.

Ebanks-Blake was ordered to pay a fine of ?1,350, compensation of ?500 and prosecution costs of ?650.

Everyone is probably still laughing at it because it was a handbag. Although that still isn't a excuse.

Yeah, but you know that championship w.a.g.s. carry a kosh in their bra and a brick in their handbags, due to their blokes don't get paid as much as

premiership players.

Well they could blag a jewellers whilst out on the raz.

I'm still a bit pi**ed off at this. He should have got a jail sentence. There was even CCTV footage of him attacking the guy! I'm glad he doesn't play for us anymore.

It's a bit freaky, though. 3 current or former Plymouth Argyle players have recently had run-ins with the law. Ebanks-Blake here, Vincent Pericard is in jail, and our goalkeeper, Luke McCormick, looks like he's going to be in jail for life after that tragic car crash. He deserves a life sentence anyway. He was over the limit, and he didn't have insurance!
