Killzone 2

Since when did firing a gun at a wall make it break up into pieces like that

It's a game!!!!11111

Probably since Red Faction though.

I seem to recall the pillars getting destroyed in The Matrix as well ;)

I want as much destroyable environment as possible :p

This is like the equivalent of using too much bloom in games except with particle effects. Just think what a map is gonna look like after a few minutes of gun fire and stray bullets. Its unnecessarily OTT albeit done well by the looks of it, it's a very smooth animation.

I thought they were trying to be as realistic as possible with the enviroment?

I doubt every single wall will be like that DM.

It's probably specific material.

Or pillars/walls in positions where players will camp around - Meaning if you destroy them enough, players will have less cover.

They clearly are going for realism within boundaries, but it's still a game and has to be fun :p

Well I'm looking at the 4th screenshot you posted too and there seems to be a hell of a lot of broken / crumbled walls.

I hope they don't make the whole maps like this anyway. I like destructible enviroments a lot too (thought it was done excellently in BF BC), but that gif just looks silly. Fair enough if they are gonna make it destructable but at least make it look at least some what real.

I'd hate to see what would happen if you sneezed on that wall

As I said, it's still a game.

If you want I can go through most modern FPS games and pull things here and there that don't correspond 1:1 to real life in terms of physics/strength/etc.

It's over the top for effect (people like explosions/damage), and it won't be used on every single material.

That's clear if you watch videos, not a lot explodes/crumbles, just certain things.

I really don't think it's the most important thing in the game anyway, enough chat on crumbling walls from me :p

Films are just as bad -

It just looks cool ;)

Your the one complaining. Perhaps you should complain to Guerrilla, not us?

Complaining? Moi?

Like I said, I just gave a short description of what I saw, and it wasn't similar to Audio's (and apparently yours) own opinion, boo hoo, cry me a river will you?.

If you don't agree with my description that's perfectly fine, just don't make it seem like I'm the one bitching about it.

I actually liked the fact you can blow **** up in this game. That's a bonus for me.

Got a chance to look at the other videos (with sound) and I have some good things to say about them. The sound effects are amazing, very realistic, and together with the cool player motion it all seems very satisfying.

Everything else I already talked about. Still a lot to do but I'm mostly waiting for the campaign mode. Not so keen on MP tbh.

Beta embargo was lifted today, media/press now posting their thoughts

What happened to the thumbnails we were promised! :p

I'll thumbnail large images :p

Okay, here's the deal- we are in the Killzone 2 beta and our conclusion thus far is relatively simple and straightforward.

It's this beta that is quickly proving to gamers that Guerilla isn't fooling around. They're not spending a truckload of money to develop and hype a project that will ultimately disappoint. We have determined that in recent interviews, the developers appear to be supremely confident in the quality of their forthcoming FPS...and we now know why. It didn't take long for us to understand exactly why Guerilla was so confident, and why every last PlayStation 3 owner on the planet should be pumped. Hell, we won't discriminate; every video game everywhere should be pumped; the PS3 is a worthy purchase for this one game. Our full beta impressions are forthcoming, but we want more time with this bad boy before we start to gush. Let's just say that if you're not in the beta, you're seriously missing out, and if you are, than you fully comprehend the previous words in this update. We've heard nothing but great things so far, and pretty soon, we'll tell you why it's impossible to find a lot of negative feedback on this beta test.

And one last thing: we currently have something better than the Killzone 2 beta. It's still Killzone 2, but we're not allowed to talk about it until December 4...so we won't. In the meantime, we suggest you keep it here, 'cuz you won't want to miss what we have to say next month. Oh no...no, you won't want to miss that.

I think it's that the embargo for the single player campaign ends on the 4th of December.

Guerilla have been inviting press to play through the SP campaign over the last few weeks...

Here's another nice explosion :p

IGN: Killzone 2 haters be prepared to eat a hefty serving of humble pie

IGN AU has posted up a preview on KillZone 2 and warn that any haters out there best be prepared to eat a hefty seving of humble pie as the game looks and plays amazingly well. They note that what they have seen is the "end result of that self-righteous rage, and we absolutely love it."

That being said, it's hard to see how anyone could deny the sheer technical achievement of the game. No online shooter in the console market could possible claim to look better than Killzone 2, or feature more atmosphere and eye for detail. We get the distinct impression that Sony, after the guffawing of the gaming community post-E3 2005, demanded that Killzone 2 match up to that infamous CG trailer - regardless of the development time or expense. What we're seeing and playing today is the end result of that self-righteous rage, and we absolutely love it. We reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised by just how well Killzone 2 looks and plays. Haters be damned ? you'd all best be prepared to chow down on a hefty serving of humble pie on this one...

They better bring it, after 4 years they have no excuse.

I think there is little doubt that this will be a success.

As for the development time, 4 years isn't all that bad and being honest it's possibly been longer than that.

Halo 3 was probably in development for 3-4 years itself as well. So it's not really a long time, just I guess they announced it a lot earlier in it's creation.

Scenery is out of this world, first game to give me the vibe of a ultra polished cg movie. Super hyped to play this myself.

Pics? We're talking gigabytes of recorded footage across the various levels. ;)

December the 4th, mark it down!!!

Will be really nice to see new SP stuff (Y)

I hope before the beginning of the new campaign they have a little history story about what happened in the first game. I tried playing it and it was just unplayable.

Its not too complicated, you haven't missed that much but it does outline a small back story and some things for this game like the Helgast and their planet, which we now see in this one, and you can probably find it all on Wikipedia or one of the fan sites.

KZ2 is on the 1UPShow this week! :o

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
