Killzone 2

Because I don't like you, simple :)

Please use ignore then rather than trying to make my stay on Neowin a chore.

If you don't you'll leave me no option to report you for harassment, especially now I know you do what you do on purpose from your very sad motives.

Would be rather stupid to get yourself warned/banned over being unable to control your dislike for someone. Rather childish if so I must say.

Er, that wasn't me that mentioned that :s At least I don't remember talking about something as mundane as that.

Sorry, it was Ricardo I believe (on reading back now), my bad :p

And you called me a jackass which is an insult, a warning on top of your 80% and buh-bye AB.

But feel free to reply or not, I'm done here and to add something to the topic? Can't wait to see how the managed the weapon damage versus health-points. Really hope you can kill people in just a few shots and not an entire clip like a certain battlefield game :hmmm:

Please stop posting that publicly, that in itself will get you in trouble.

There is a clear rule about hanging people out to dry which you are breaking.

And secondly, I think giving away your motive as to why you post what you do against me due to some personal dislike to be a much worse of a concern for the mods than me calling you a jackass.

You're basically admitting to going around topics trolling me from some stupid dislike you have.

That's harassment, and the initial attack provokes me into calling you a jackass, rightfully so.

How is a member openly admitting to wanting to harass someone useful for the community?

Absolutely pathetic and petty to go around a message board targeting someone because you're sitting behind your computer screen angry at them just because of a personal dislike

You have an ignore function, use it, stop being immature and stop giving me a headache.

No, this is not a ###### for tat community, unfortunately - learned that a long time ago.

And you yourself build this up, a tiny little comment will end up as walls of text from you, you instigate this **** yourself in the end.

Why post the "tiny little comment"?

What purpose does it serve?

How does it forward the community?

How does it forward your image?

How does it help build bonds with the community members?

It does none of them, stop it, it's not wise and you know it.

You're purposely targeting people, then trying to ring them out, probably hoping I do get in trouble, as you're keen to keep posting my warn level - Second time you've done it now this month.

Anyone know if these are from a private session or taken public released video?

Gamer on NeoGAF who has a single player build ( http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php...018&page=90 )

Quite a few of them do, must be reviewers/journalists.

Single player embargo finishes on the 4th of December, and lot's of HD video will be released officially (from Guerilla), and by these people posting the screens above.

Hey guys, nice to see you're still getting along nicely as usual :)

We're liked that forced married couple who's contemplating on killing each other every minute of the day.

But man I so can't wait to see / try out the weapon damage in multiplayer, someone out there with the beta must have had that concern as well?

Hands on with Killzone 2's single player campaign

The cynic inside of me didn't want to believe the hype. How could I forget that the original Killzone on PS2 was backed by an overwhelming hype machine, powered by vocal drones declaring it a "Halo-killer?" When it released in 2004, critics were impressed by the technical presentation but found very little substance in the gameplay. Four years later with an early version of the single player game, I wondered if Killzone 2 would repeat history.

Let me be as clear as I can. Killzone 2 is a fantastic game, easily deserving the hype its earned so far. Considering the expectations surrounding Killzone 2, that means quite a lot. From what I've played so far, Killzone 2 delivers on all fronts. The gameplay is incredibly visceral and nuanced; the graphics are unparalleled.

Obviously, a lot must be said about the visuals in Killzone 2. The debut CG trailer was supposed to be representative of what the PS3 could possibly do. While perhaps not as flawless as the original trailer, Killzone 2 is without a doubt one of the most beautiful games ever created. The attention to detail is quite impeccable: textures are crisp; character models move with complex, lifelike animation.

In spite of its clear sci-fi setting, the world of Helghan is grounded in realism. Weapons have a real sense of weight to them. Each bullet feels impactful, and important. Watch as the casings leave your gun. These aren't canned animation -- they are real objects controlled by the in-game physics engine. Enemies appear to feel every bullet, staggering when hit, rolling and dodging as they struggle to survive. The reload animations are slow and meticulously detailed. The flash off your gun's muzzle is appropriately blinding, adding to the visceral feel of combat. Gun nuts will notice the subtle differences between weapons: as some work much better at short range, others at long. These aren't the weapons you'll find in Resistance or Halo -- and that's what makes Killzone so refreshing.

While the assault rifles feel great, a special note must be made about the flamethrower and the sniper rifle. This is the most beautiful rendition of the weapon I've seen in a game so far. You can actually see it shoot sticky liquid fuel, a detail lost to most other shooters. The sniper rifle uses subtle, but clever SIXAXIS tilt controls. Keep your hand steady as you aim, or else your sight will become incredibly unsteady.

Other than being a first person shooter, comparisons between Halo and Killzone 2 seem thoroughly invalid. Perhaps a more apt point of comparison would be Call of Duty. With the exception of the occassional flying robot and massively armored supersoldier, Killzone 2 strangely evokes the harrowing feel of a modern war. However, the gunplay of Killzone is slower and more meticulous than the arcade-inspired controls of the CoD series. You won't auto-aim at enemies when using your sights, for example. You won't be single-handedly mowing down hundreds of enemies. Your aim and movement is noticeably slower than most other FPS.

It's things like these that can make or break a game and I'm happy they're making something different and refreshing. What we don't need is another generic shooter that'll get lost in the middle.

It's good to finally hear that this game may be a decent offer and we'll finally have something to fill in the spot left between Gears and CoD when it comes to realism.

"as some work much better at short range, others at long." Yeah, no offense but most games these days have that :p

All games have had that for a long time, it's the last part of the sentence I emphasize the most. -> "These aren't the weapons you'll find in Resistance or Halo" (Y)

I just saw some videos of the MP. It looks like **** compared to the SP campaign they have been showing off. It's like they took off all the Post-Processing...and this game looks horrible with all the filters turned off.

Also, some of the levels just look better than others. I understand it's still preview code, but if the final build doesn't have the same amount of polish throughout the entire game, it will loose it's graphical quality.

Good, I'm happy you don't like it. Maybe I won't have to experience your ****ty attitude online and you can keep playing whatever garbage you play while we play KZ2 'til our thumbs bleed.

On a better note, this thread will undoubtedly have some of the most posts ever for a game not released.

Did I strike a chord or something? Expecting everyone to love a game is just retarded. I have never played Killzone 1 and have no problem admitting that. Did I compare the game to any other games? No. I simply stated what I did not like. They are using massive amounts of post-processing to make it look better than it actually does.

I honestly don't play games for the MP, so maybe I shouldn't complain about the graphical quality, however, if I see a game that's being represented/shown off as the "best graphics on a console ever," I better see that same graphical quality throughout the entire game. You cannot have level 1 with 100% polish and then the rest of the levels shown off at 75% or less. This is exactly why Gamersyde took down the videos, because the polish is not shown throughout the entire game.

Do I want it to kick ass? Yes, of course I do. I want to actually purchase some games for my PS3! :p

You do realize that those videos were of preview code that's months old, and that they've certainly improved the polish on the game since then?

I think a few people around here would like to just post on the assumption that they got out the preview code and have been twiddling their thumbs ever since. That way they can pick up on any imperfections in the game and claim it will still be there in the final. I'm not saying they won't be, but give the game a chance. There is no denying that it looks to be one hell of a FPS.

You are jumping to conclusions and judging preemptively. There are still 81 days to retail.

That happens in a lot of MP FPS games though. It just makes things a hell of a lot smoother online when there is less gfx going on.

I dunno about that, it has GTA4/LBP to compete with  I think they both had 90+ pages before the game was even out.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
