Killzone 2

Yeah I'm positive you do, but Dirk said no earlier.

As I said previously, a lot of games put the highest tier in as an unlockable.

edit: Seems you do

Thought so.

Seems it's the done thing these days. I guess you could say it adds to the longevity of a game.

I won't even play on Hard the first time through now. I am going to play on the easiest difficulty just so I can get through it so I can play it again.

Same here, not going to beat the game twice on a frustrating difficulty - That plane only flies once. The sense of accomplishment is totally gone the second time around. Probably won't even bother with the game twice at all.

I guess my friend played Gears before me on another difficulty. Anyway I still hate the fact that you can't do it from the get go like you can in Call of Duty. Hell I would even like it better if they only had one difficulty throughout the game instead of having to unlock another one.

Yeah a lot of games do that. Right now I remember that MGS4, Uncharted, Resistance 1, Resistance 2 you need to beat them first to unlock the highest difficulty. On R2 you have to beat the game on Difficult to get SuperHuman.

Yup it becomes part and parcel of gaming now really. To unlock the harder difficulty you have to play through it at least once.

Few titles have done it yes including every major PS3 title for reasons unknown but there are TONS of developers who still do it the proper way.

It's a pathetic way to add replay value imo

I kind of agree with you but at the end of the day it does add replay value and possibly a level that they didn't think was practical for mainstream inclusion.

Other games have done similar things before, unlimited ammo, new weapons etc, just to play through the game again.

Unlocking so called 'Super Human' levels allows the devs to really ramp up the difficulty as much as they wish, even boardering on unbeatable without impacting on review scores saying that the game is way too hard on the highest difficulty.

I am mostly referring to FPS games, since other games add another incentive for the second playthrough, like added story, features or building on your character.

FPS games usually adds nothing! also they reason why they should have the highest difficulty unlocked from the get-go. The difference between Easy and Hard/Veteran/Hardcore difficulty is like night and day for me, it's like a whole new game. Yes, you only complete the game once due to the frustration but the sense of accomplishment is unmatched! Though with a locked 'top' difficulty, I have two choices; rush through Easy mode and then I know the entire Story of the game or play through the second hardest, use up my 'frustration' quota for the game and can't be arsed to do it again, plus you don't get the same sense of accomplishment at all.

I want to be virtually raped by the AI, get wowed at every corner, unlocking of the story AND get the sense of accomplishment when I complete the game! That is the ultimate joy of a first person shooter.

Play the game on medium, enjoy the story and unlock the hardest difficulty, then play again and challenge yourself with the hardest one. That is what I do with FPS, even with those that have all difficulties unlocked. I don't want to start with the hardest one and get frustrated from the beginning, no fun in that.

Aimbot headshots, seeing/aiming through through walls, shooting you from 2 miles away, grenade spam, tank health, ect is not fun :p

Haha, just playing with you, personally I like a challenge but find it just frustrating when it's that hard.

So looking at those, it sounds like all Difficulties are available form the Start :D

Nah I don't think it is, it may have been with the review code.

From the trophy list

Heroic Survivor - Complete all missions on Elite difficulty (you must first unlock Elite

difficulty by completing story mode once)

Why everyone keep making themes with the default icons? The game studios have artist that can create new icons for the themes. That theme with more sci-fi/Killzone style (in that 2D style) icons would have been better.

That says SP is relatively short, how many hours roughly is the SP? Do we know?

8-12 hours.

From a recent KZ2 chat log - http://www.digitalchumps.com/video-gaming-...Log-Part-1.html

Corinth River -- 1 hour 6 minutes.

Blood Meridien -- 43 minutes.

Visari Square -- 56 minutes.

Salamun District -- 1 hour 10 minutes

Salamun Bridge -- 1 hour 8 minutes

Suljeva Village -- 1 hour 1 minute.

Total Time taken -- 6 hours and 4 minutes on veteran [hard].

That's the first 6 levels broken down only.

Full game time was 10 hours and 11 minutes [last 4 levels not statistically broken down as there still an embargo on them I believe].

There's 10 levels, so on average probably clocking in at around 1 hour per level.
